SUPPER CLUB - Monday, April 10th

Post by purrfect-lady » Mon Apr 10, 2017 2:32 am

Good morning!

It was a pretty nice day yesterday, but a storm is predicted for today. Then nice again tomorrow! Hope to 'encourage' Bill to mow tomorrow. He says he's not ready yet even though the grass is about 6" high now. But that's my fault because I 'encouraged' him to weed'n'feed. Mens' minds work funny, don't they?

I cleaned my whole kitchen, washing walls, windows, glass cabinet doors, floors, all the woodwork & cabinetry, countertops, and appliances. I even clean the oven and hand washed all the cookie jars I display in my garden window. I hated to mess it up by cooking! I also got a quilt quilted yesterday. Today will be binding.

Vicki's kids were here!! Whoo Hoo! we talked some with them, and they moved all the stuff and put it away neatly in her storage shed. We discussed the rodent problem with them as well and it finally dawned on them that the food she is tossing into the back yard is drawing the mice. And we lamented that mice don't respect property lines. Turns out she is tossing good food that the kids are bringing her. Guess WE won't be giving her any extra food anymore! I feel for the kids because they have no legal leg to stand on at this point. They can't even get her to a doctor because she refuses to go. They just keep coming and checking on her a few times a week and we keep an eye on her. At some point something will happen and maybe then they can do something.

TINA - a boy!!! how fun!! Guess you know which pile of fabric to dive into now! congratulations!

BECCA - I bet Chris & Tamra's household is busy now! You bet I was surprised to find f--h in my freezer! And then to top it off, Bill made himself some tuna salad yesterday so now that's in there, too! My world is spinning!

CHICKIE - and so goes all your 'free time'! lol! But busy as it is, you have such a wonderful life! And, of course, your cake was a hit! You made it!! Hope there's a little bit of time for sewing today. Though I know you are gearing up for a big family brunch on Easter.

JANA - I heard about your snow! My SIL, Terry, was driving through Utah this weekend and she texted there was snow on the ground outside her motel when she woke up! But she did make it safely to Vegas yesterday. There is another train motel/B&B in Elbe, WA on the way to Mt. Ranier. My younger sister (another Terry) has stayed in it. My brother, Jim, also loved trains and he always wanted a caboose, too. My son's friend's dad actually has one in his yard!

IRISH - another day closer to Terry Time!! I hope you had a good weekend. It looked on the national weather map like you just might have had some nice weather! Hope you were able to enjoy it.

Tonite's supper will be pork fried rice and stir-fried veggies. plus a little salad on the side. Then I think all the leftovers will be et up and I'll have to start thinking up new foods again.

What are you thinking up for tonite?

Good morning! Had a bit of a scare, and it’s not totally over… Blackie got the scours (drizzly poo), and then wouldn’t eat last evening. I had a scours pill ground up in it. I was concerned all night. This morning, she was ready to eat and acted like she felt better. Hopefully it will last! I really do worry about her. Pocket Lint is rambunctious and doing well!

Jana—I knew I’d get you with the caboose and dining car! There is a caboose in town that I’d love! Parsons was the main shops, roundhouse, repair for the Katy Railroad until they left in the late 50s or early 60s and set up in Dennison, TX. It sure made the town go down! The farmers got old box cars on the cheap and used them for hay storage on their farms—small barns they could locate closer to where they were needed. There are two old boxcars in deplorable shape where the old house burned. They are pretty much beyond redemption at this point unless you had LOTS of energy and go. They were basically storage sheds. At one time, there were several houses in town made out of box cars… much like the container houses they make now.

Gosh, Mary… glad you got to talk to Vicky’s kids, and drilled into them what was happening. It’s too bad the kids have no legal way to do anything. And so, the status quo continues… Plus, your refrigerator and freezer have turned on you!

Congratulations, Tina! Now you can do more boy sewing!!!

Becca—I know it’s a happy time having one of the babies home and anticipating arrival of little Gabriel!

Irish—always thinking of you!!!

We had some leftovers last night. DH brought pulled pork back from the family affair, so sandwiches were the fare. I was running late after going to DS’s to get scour pills. DH went with me, and of course they all got to talking… So, tonight… there’s that steak waiting to be fixed for DH. I’ll find some stuff to go with it, and probably a big salad for me and a small one for DH.

Bon appétit!

Jana-- check this out... I looked up the Country Caboose, and it's been changed to a wedding chapel. I knew the tea room had been closed. I guess she just evolved with the times... https://www.countrycaboose.com/'>https: ... boose.com/ I always admired her Santa Fe California Poppy dinnerware. I used to have a cup, but that was all. We rode the Santa Fe from CA to KS when I was a kid and we visited Grandma and Grandpa.

Good morning from a very sunny, getting warmer, SW. Pa...Would you believe we're to hit the upper 70s or low 80s today???? This I can handle, very much so.....Was even tempted to go without my socks today, lol....

Mary, so glad to hear you've been able to talk to Vickie's kids...You know the time will come and she will either get sick or fall and then something will be done...It's just such a sad, sad thing and you know, this isn't her....So often, I'll just wish I could see what's going on in Jim's brain or know what he's really thinking...
My heavens, there you go again, cleaning and making it rough for us...Not sure when my kitchen had a cleaning like that BUT, I'm thinking about it...You notice the word, thinking.....

Tina, a little boy, do you have your quilt pattern picked out? You know, just thinking, there's a lot of babies happening on this forum...Another good thing, right! I'll give our Cari another year or so and then I'll start hinting, lol....But, those little ones do bring so many smiles to a family, little miracles....

Becca, and talking about babies, I can imagine the excitement of bringing home 1 twin and soon the next...And then to look forward to another set of twins, wow.....You will be busy with the needle....Hope your weather is like out's, couldn't be better...Also hope your day is a good one....

Chickie, Years ago when Jim was so involved with Notre Dame and football, he and the guys would travel to South Bend for a weekend and I really looked forward to having the house to myself...But, you know, after the 1st day, I was looking forward to them coming back, lol...But, you do have so much, you didn't have much alone time, did you? Don't think I'd be able to handle the farm living any more, really too much work for this old gal...How are Ms Lint's eyes, is she able to see...And what about Blackie?
I love reading about your tea rooms and the different trains...You would think there would be something like that around here but nothing....I agree, Jana should have a car in her back yard, perfect!

Jana, you hear that, we all agree....I must have missed it but I didn't know Gracie was sick, sorry to hear that.....

We are having a super day, sheets are on the line and I even have a couple windows open...Right now, I'm waiting for Comcast to come and maybe change the box to the TV...Just another pain in the butt...I spent over an hour with "chat help" on Sat. and got no where..I would love to tell them to stick it but we really have no other service in this area...Bring back the antenna!
Yesterday, being so nice, we ran a few errands...I started a new cross stitch project and could not believe I needed 5 colors...I have literally, thousands of skeins of floss, my own and all that my ExDIL had given me and still needed 5...So, we walked in JoAnn's, got the floss and back out...The store was too crowded for me to look around...Then to Home Depot and Aldi and then stopped, did a drive thru and came home to eat...Perfect day! Jim was pretty whipped out, went to bed early and is just not getting up...
The gal from next door asked if she could borrow our mower to do their yard and then do ours...Heck, I gave her the key to the shed and told her to help herself...

Not sure what else I'll get into today but with this weather, it makes a person feel like doing something (even if it's wrong)....

For our dinner, I'm thinking of either chili or lasagna...I have the meat browned so we can go either way....We did have burgers yesterday so that's out...And Jim found some little donuts yesterday so we have them for afters.....

You all have a great day....

Happy eating..................

Hello Everyone, sunny & low 80s here.My walk was tough in the Heat.

Well the glasses won't help.I was hoping for better news but I'm grateful for my vision I have,.Did get the stuff hauled to landfill. And chores done.

Chickie Sure hope Blackie does well.Knew. DH would probably be anxious to get back.No place like home.

Jana The caboose sounds neat.I have only seen them used in children's parks & for restaurants.Hope Gracie is ok.

Irish Sounds like you had a successful trip with all your shopping completed.

Maryz Now that cleaning is what mine needs but don't think I can handle it anymore. Not all at one time.Used to but not anymore.
Happy you got some action on Vicky. The rodents would be the main concern.

Tina Another sweet little Angel.Sure it will be special. And Gramas machine will be buzzing.Congrats to all

Got to get going & get the quilts to UPS.
Will be burger for DH & veggie for me.Trimmings & fruit salad. Becca

Good afternoon!

Hiding in the Batt Cave - wanting to make a new project, but alas, Murphy's law has invoked itself into my project - I must do something else first, before I can do what I want! The project is out of a quilt book I have and all the applique patterns must be enlarged by 200% of the print in the book! So I can't start until I head over to the church and use the copier in the library there - I am one of the few in the Ward that has a key to get in there. We do the ward Sunday Services program, so we can use that copier for that, but it is a lousy copier, so we print the bulletins here at my house off the laser printer we own. But it isn't a scanner, so I might just have to use the Ward's copier. We shall see. A little trade off.

Still haven't made it to the grocery store - guess that I will go do the inventory in the storage pantry and then head off to the store for some major re-stocking. So dinner is still on the back burner - I can do mac and cheese chowder. With Matt and Crenda heading off to New York/Pennsylvania, they had left overs from their dinner last night and brought it out to us for our dinner. They will be traveling in upstate New York/Penn - Church History sites and then the last night will be back and stay at Niagara Falls.

Guess that I will be cooking Easter dinner here next Sunday. I will cook, the girls will set the table, serve and clean up. I can handle that!

Gracie was over yesterday afternoon. She is doing great. With the bad croup she had, her airway had closed off so bad that the airway was only open about 10 percent! With their new home - it is about 1 minute from the ER, so they zipped there quickly. Outside standing was a ER doctor and new nurse, as the doctor was showing the new nurse the layout of the helicopter emergency landing area - Aaron pulled up and they sprang into action very quickly. I am so glad that I have two kids - Kate and Aaron, both, that are trained first responders and knew what to do in the situation.

Last summer we took a ride, south, and chased along the UP tracks and found a railroad yard that had many old signal lights. Oh the thought was tempting to go back with Matt's truck and snitch one in the middle of the night. But that would be stealing and knowing my luck, the sheriff would be there! LOL UP is changing out all the old ones and then selling off the scrap. Finding caboose these days is like finding a hen's tooth!

Well need to get that inventory going - as you could tell, I have been stalling that chore for a looooooong time!

Enjoy!
Jana
