Daily devotion March 15

Psalm 22

Many of the Psalms reflect a time of turmoil and conflict in which the writer is overwhelmed by adversity, injustice, and persecution; but perhaps none exceed this one in the desperation of feeling forsaken even by God.

While the psalmist is crying out in a dilemma that is current, this is a prophetic passage revealing the crucifixion of our LORD in graphic detail: V14 " I am poured out like water...." V16-17 " They pierced my hands and my feet. I can count all my bones..." none was broken as is typical of a crucifixion; V18 "They divide my garments among them, and for my clothing they cast lots" All of these matched precisely the events of the crucifixion.

As I read the first verse, the thought occurred to me that perhaps when Jesus cried out on the cross, "My God, My God, why has Thou forsaken Me?" it was not an expression of feeling abandoned by the Father as He took upon Himself the sins of the world as we have traditionally thought.

Whenever Jesus encountered temptation, HE used the power and truth of God's Word to counter the attacks of Satan. Spiritual warfare reached a pinnacle of intensity when Jesus went to the cross to conquer sin and death. It is not unlikely His thoughts went to this Psalm, and HE gained strength and assurance in being reminded that all that was happening to HIM was programmed by the Father. God was on HIs throne and simply fulfilling HIS eternal purpose to provide redemption for the lost world.

Do you turn to the scriptures to fight your Spiritual warfare with Satan? Don't you think we should learn from the MASTER?

Hugs Prayers and God Bless

Throughout the entire Old Testament, the many stories and teachings of the prophets are but a type and shadow of Jesus Christ. Moses, the deliverer- Christ our deliverer, Jonah, the sacrifice for the good of his shipmates, Christ's sacrifice for us, they go on and on. Just as the ritual of the sacrifice of the first born lamb, the blemish free, perfect one, no bones were broken, just the same for the Savior, Jesus Christ.

Isiah also says in in his writings, chapter 53, verses 3 - 6. (KJV) We are His by the stripes he bears for us.

As the Easter season approaches, we are drawn to remember all He has done for us and the blessing He gives us of repentance, a daily repentance, so that we may enjoy that Spirit of peace snd comfort He affords us.
