SUPPER CLUB - Sunday, Feb 19th

Post by purrfect-lady » Sun Feb 19, 2017 3:41 am

Good Morning!

It was dry when I got up but I think that is no longer the case. Another indoor day! I can dig it! If it weren't rainy today, then I'd feel compelled to be outside, literally 'digging it'. Inside is better. ;+)

Yesterday I got my whole to-do list accomplished by 1:00pm and settled down by the fire to read my book. I had supper in the crockpot (chicken, chili, corn, cheese chowder) and salads made and crisping in the fridge. Ahhh... But DD#1, Lara, called and said if we wanted to meet for dinner at Mexican restaurant halfway between us then they were suddenly free. We'd invited them a few days prior and she said they were busy. This was to celebrate her birthday, belatedly. So it was a quick hop into the shower, hair, make-up, dress AGAIN. But we did have a nice evening. I just hope our supper held up so we can have it tonite.

BECCA - thanks for the rib recipe. I might give them a go one day. usually if I cook ribs from scratch, they are the pork short ribs (more meat for the dollar). I have a great oven BBQ recipe that never fails and they are so tender. But it's hard to find good short ribs.

CAROL - putting on a quilt show is so much work. Bill and I volunteered once for the big PNW Quilt show that used to be in Seattle, then moved to Tacoma, and now is defunct. There were about 400 quilts. We were quilt-hangers and when it was over we were quilt-taker-downers. And there was a lot of organization to keep all the quilts straight so they got back to owners. Never been so tired!! Kudos to you and your group!!

Today I have a few household odds and ends to do, but I might actually get into my sewing room today. To do what, I haven't decided yet. I have my lone star for our friends to get started on, but I'm not 'feeling' it yet. Maybe something less daunting to start out with. I haven't sewn in a month. Or maybe just to organize my planned projects for the year and prioritize them. Anyway, I'll be fondling the fabric! I do have a comforter made by my sister and I have to put new blanket binding on it. My back-up sewing machine can handle that since my Bernie is lazing at the spa for a few weeks.

Anyway, for now, out of the sewing room and into the kitchen - what's for dinner?

Dinner - since i will have the boys, i think i will do chicken and mashed taters and a veggie. I am also mak8ng brownies with cream cheese frosting.

Still at church , i need a nap! Too early here!

Mary - that quilt will get done quickly as soon as Bernie is back. With all this rain, howws the tree hanging over your house doing?

Daniel and family are back home now. The entire area of Northern California water system is being very taxed with all the water. Yet, they leaders still say, there is a drought. And the snow in the Sierras has not yet begun to melt. What a mess that will be.

Well, time to go and teach my Sunday lesson to my girls,

Enjoy,
Jana

Good afternoon! Yesterday was a nice visit with Mom and lunch with her. I also had coffee first with my friend and caught up with what was happening in her life. The day was beautiful, and the Hooligans and I went for a walk to see Choc and Maggie. I came home and worked on my comfort quilt. I wish I could get my hand-eye-foot coordination to work better so I didn’t break so many threads and have to rip out so often. I finally finished and am now in the process of binding. I’ll finish it today… if I ever get back to my sewing room. I’ve been on my feet—early run to Choc and Maggie as “dad” is working a shift and a half, laundry, floors, kitchen clean up and then making brunch and more kitchen clean up. Still in the process of laundry and floors… Does it ever end???

DS1 texted me that we have our first calf of the season, so I want to go visit and get mom cow’s number for our records. I think we’ll walk out to check on her. It’s a pretty day again, though I don’t think it’s as warm as Friday or yesterday.

Dinner last night was burgers in town as we went to collect some rent. The Hooligans and I piled in for a break from sewing… lucky! No cooking last night… except I made caramel popcorn at DH’s suggestion.

Dinner tonight… clean out the refrigerator and see what’s in it to put together… I know there is macaroni and cheese (really!), broccoli, and chicken for DH. I’m thinking the mac ‘n cheese and broccoli will make me quite happy on their own. Wonder if I could turn them into a creamy broccoli cheesy macaroni soup??? I think it could work…

Mary—I’m sure your dinner tonight will be delicious! It’s nice to drop it all and have dinner with your DD!

Jana—yours sounds like the perfect Sunday dinner! I guess it takes time to process the drought records… And, if the deluge came too fast and didn’t get absorbed… still drought under the top layer of mud.

Irish—I know the Salvation Army is the “dead woman store”, but I sure like some of the bargains I get there! I donated all my work wardrobe to St. Vincent de Paul when I retired. SA over at my DD’s has the best bargains anywhere.

Carol—the quilt show sounds like so much fun! I’ve never used wool batting. I’d like to try it and silk and bamboo… one of these days. So sorry about all the storms! I need to check with my aunt in Murrieta.

Becca—I only hand quilt if I know the efforts will be appreciated. I enjoy relaxing and quilting, but relaxing any more is not easy. It’s also hard to quilt with a couple of dogs wanting to assist or warm my lap!

Guess I need to get back to work here… then the Hooligans and I can take a hike

Bon appétit!

Good late afternoon from warn, sunny, spring like, SW. Pa...We are so blessed with this weather, going to be hard to give up when winter returns, probably by next weekend, lol....

Mary, every once in awhile, isn't it good to have a day as you did yesterday...Get things done early and then sit in front of a fire, life is good...And even better when you get a call from your DD...

Chickie, sounds like you also had a good day but a busy one...A new calf, that's exciting...I don't like to ask but hopefully, this one will grow up, if you know what I mean....That's one of the things I hated about the farm.....My favorite place is the SA store...I had a friend, who shopped big time, compliment me on my clothes and wanted to know where I shopped....I think she was very surprised when I told her....Of course this is the same friend who told me my pumpkin pies were the best she had ever eaten and at the time, I had used crust and pumpkin from Aldi's and followed the Libby's recipe....

Today has been a great day...Cari was home for the weekend and she and big brother, Dan, came down for brunch...Dan is a big movie buff and every year he goes to the screening of all those nominated and asked if Cari wanted to go...They sat through 4 or 5 yesterday and the rest are next weekend, but, she said, she had enough, (numb bum, lol)...But, we really had a good brunch, nothing fancy but just great to have them here...Although Jim sat and ate with us after they left, he said, boy, aren't they nice kids but didn't really know who they were....
I've been trying to keep a journal which I call, "Our journey into the Unknown"...Some day, hopefully the kids will read it and not think any less of their Dad but maybe understand a little more of what he was going through and why he did some of the things he has done....I know it makes me so sad to see the expression on his face when "he's lost" or when he gets so frustrated when he tries to tell me something...So very hard to understand how this can happen....But, 1 day at a time!

With this great weather, I was hoping to make some burgers on the grill but I know, Jim won't want to eat so that might wait until tomorrow...So, tonight, do have some left over soup for him and maybe a salad for me....I had made an braided apple thingie for brunch and there's little left over for afters............

Happy eating.............

Irish - what a treasure that journal will be for your family. It will bring joy, happiness, sorrow and life lessons on how well you loved! It is very hard for you, but you have shown and will show to your family and future generations what love really is! What a shining example uou are to them and us here. I only hope that if and when i am faced with trials, i can respond as well as you do.

Great big hug!
Jana
