SUPPER CLUB - Thursday, September 1st

Post by purrfect-lady » Thu Sep 01, 2016 3:42 am

Good Morning!

This morning Bill and I both have blood draws about 0800. Then later in the morning is my massage appointment. And friends are coming sometime today to stay for 3 nights. Then we take them to the airport so they can fly back to NC to visit family for 4 days. We will dog-sit for them. We'll pick them up at the airport again next week, they will spend one more night, and then be on their way.

BECCA - glad you enjoyed the massage. sometimes, it takes a few days for all the benefits to 'settle in'. and of course, it's no cure for chronic problems - but it does release the muscles and make those problems easier to live with. I get my massages every 3 to 4 weeks. Our visiting friends who are going back to NC are from there. Her maiden name is Boone - a descendent of Daniel's brother, Isaac (or is it Isreal?) and I think they are from the town of Boone. Anywhere near you?

IRISH - I hope you had less dust from the mowing this week. And sorry about the trailer - it sold yesterday. We were just planning the route to PA when we got a call from a guy about 2,999 miles closer. He bought it and we delivered it already. It gets to go on a 3-day trip this weekend east of the mountains. He seemed pretty excited about it and I think our "Rover" will have a good home.

TINA - so what was the problem with your dad's knee and what is the ointment? and how did your mom's appointment go? I have an idea for the babysitting dilemma - you said Holly's boyfriend only works part time anyway, so maybe he should watch the kids on his days he doesn't work. And you babysit on days that he does. You'd still see the boys, and he could still work, and no one is paying $64/day for babysitting.

CHICKIE - I guess you are busy sweltering. But isn't that what summertime in Kansas is all about? I don't mind heat at all - as long as I can stay inside in the A/C! Here, few people have A/C in their homes because it's rarely needed. But I have a lower level to our house that stays pretty cool. Did your DGD love her cookie?

I got a little more yard work done yesterday - about 1-1/2 hrs. but there are big piles of debris to be picked up with the tractor. Bill will do that when he gets time. Most of it is fireweed. I love it but it's sure a shaggy mess after the blooms are gone. Some of those plants were 10 feet tall! I measured!

I will be making chicken enchilada casserole for supper tonite - and cornbread and salad. For our company. The leftover SW chicken is going into the freezer for another day.

come on by! There will be enough for all of us to share!

Good morning :)
Mom got home at almost 6 and nothing new, he's saying again that it is attached to her rectum, he ordered a bone marrow test for the 8th. Dad's knee, I didn't get any more info on. Oh Holly's boyfriend works more than full time, he works 7:30am to 3:45pm as a teachers assistant but the job only pays $13775, under $14000 a year and that's before taxes, insurance and retirement, he only brings home $350 twice a month and then he's an assistant coach for $1500 for track for the 3 months and assistant coach for football for$2500 for the 7 months or so, it covers summer training too, most nights he doesn't get home until 7:30-8, so he's gone for 12 hours a day for nothing to amount to anything pay. Frankie says it costs more in gas money than what he gets paid, we're just of the belief that a man should support his family. We swear that our son was making more than that when he was in high school and worked part time at Mc Donalds.
I'm so happy you sold your trailer Mary! I think you need to take a break though you've been working way to hard!
Irish you sure are a good person!
Becca I'll be going and asking the therapy guy what's what as soon as I can, at least get what information that I can so I can decide what and when something can be done.
I made soup last night so we're having that again this evening.

Good morning! Yesterday I was AWOL, and DH had to find whatever he could in the fridge… He didn’t starve. He had a “Kansas” cheese steak sandwich (just enough leftover in there for one sandwich), a PB&J, a banana, an orange and chocolate chip cookies.

My sister and I went to Kansas City for a doctor appointment for her and shopping afterwards. We hit Trader Joe’s, World Market, Hobby Lobby and Ikea. What fun! I had only been in an Ikea once 30 years ago, and only once before at TJ’s and WM. It was a long day. I left here at 7:00 a.m. and returned at 9:30 p.m. Before we got out of town, we spent an hour in KC traffic waiting on a wreck—just got stuck in a place and couldn’t get out. I’d sure hate to commute there.

DGD did love her cookie. She’s a sweetie… but aren’t they all!

Mary—I like the name Silver (Fox). That was a quick sale on your “Rover”! Your SW chicken casserole sounds yummy, too. Did I get that recipe? Guess I should check. We didn’t have AC in San Francisco for the same reason. Actually, I didn’t grow up with AC when we moved to KS, either. Mom just has a window unit in her bedroom now. It keeps her house pretty cool, and she keeps some rooms closed off. We always had big shade trees that kept the houses cool and lots of windows for north/south ventilation.

Those Boones got around. In Missouri, there are Boones that are descendants from Daniel, and I think a town and county named for them.

Tina—I know baby sitters are EXPENSIVE. My DD used to pay almost her whole check for child care hoping to get through until the kids were in school and she could actually make some money and have some seniority. YOU, My Dear, are grossly underpaid!!!

We missed the rain here, once again. 15 miles east at my sister’s, they had 2.5”, and we had NOTHING!!! Today is cooler, at least somewhat. It definitely was hot mowing the other day and so dusty! Of course, with the rain in town it will grow again. No, we just sold one house. This is a duplex, and if anyone was able to mow, we’d leave them a mower. Danny is disabled, and the upstairs tenant… probably not reliable. The other places mow their own… one with one of our mowers, but it’s nice not to have to do it ourselves. If the houses are vacant, then we have to mow.

We have a lot of “weeds” in our yard. I prefer to call them wildflowers, and they are pretty when they are blooming. The birds like to pick out the seeds when the plants die.

Tonight—dinner will have to be something with beef to keep DH happy. I’m not sure yet what it will be… maybe beef tips over rice or noodles… I need to see if there are more cherry tomatoes to pick. Our BLTs the other evening were the perfect summer food… so yummy!

I hope to sew today and go see Ava with the Hooligans. When I got home last evening, there were some pretty happy kids and DH. He wasn’t quite as exuberant with his display, however.

Tina--you jumped in there while I was typing. Your poor mom! She goes through so much which means you do too. Sorry you don't get sitting help from the SIL.

Wow Becca that is crazy expensive for child care! Holly brings home about twice that amount but she has to pay all her living expenses out of it, she's the main source of income. I say he should just stay home with the kids and then get an evening job it would make more sense to me anyway. I'm glad your massage helped you even if it was only to relax, maybe your next one will start to help your back :)
Mom and Dad are supposed to close on their property sometime between 20th-30th this month.
Chickie, sounds like you had a great day yesterday :)

Good afternoon from a semi sunny, not as warm, SW. Pa...It's a pleasant day and supposed to be great for the rest of the week and holiday weekend.....

Mary, so glad to hear about the quick sale...Hope "Rover's" new owners have as many happy times camping as you and Bill did....I was really trying to come up with some sort of "story" for the kids as to why we were moving and getting a huge new truck....What kind of a fur kid does the company have? Just the other day, a friend who helps with a cat rescue organization sent me a picture of 2 gorgeous little black/white kittens, Thelma and Louise and it was all I could do not to call and tell her to drop them off....I did send their picture on to Cari and told her I thought it would be a great wedding gift...She already has 3 but 2 more little ones, she'd never know they were there, right????

Tina, When I read what all you are coping with and all you do, my life is a breeze.....I do agree with you, always felt the man should be the main source of support but in today's world, that doesn't always happen....When our boys were in high school, they worked at a car wash and did very well.......Praying things get easier for you.....

We just got back from another trip to the VA clinic...Thank goodness we don't have to travel to Pittsburgh, just to Greensburg, which is still 30-45 minutes away but the traffic isn't that bad...Today, Jim saw the physical therapist and was shown how to use the cane and then she felt he might do better with a walked, and he ended up with both...Also, they are sending someone to install a sort of swivel seat for the tub and a hand held shower...These people are absolutely wonderful.....
And on the way home, we made a quick stop at a dress shop, ran in, saw 2 dresses, tried them and came home with 1 and only took about 20 minutes...So, now the wedding can go on, Grammy has her dress, lol.....
Too late to start anything so it will be a lazy afternoon....
As for our dinner, I made that zucchini chili last night and there's enough for tonight, although, it's not one of Jim's favorites...Picked up some super fresh Italian bread and a box of powdered sugar donut holes jumped in the shopping cart, so we're good to go...............

Happy eating...................
