SUPPER CLUB - Wed, Aug 17th

Post by purrfect-lady » Wed Aug 17, 2016 3:41 am

Good Morning!

We're off early to take our trailer in for the repair to the underneath. Bill threw a bunch of manly terms at me, but I understand that about like I understand electronics - not at all. We did make the deal on our new one and the salesman sent us a photo of the SOLD TO ANOTHER HAPPY CAMPER sign on the locked door. No one can go through it now - except our good friends, also Arctic Fox owners, who live in Bend, OR. We left permission for them to go check it out for us. Can't wait until August 31st! But we'll enjoy having one last week out with our old girl before then.

My DB is doing OK after his fall. Well enough that they will leave tomorrow on a 3-week trip of their own. Jim will stay off his feet better in the RV than if he stays at home.

IRISH - I hope you had a nice birthday. Seeing those kids had to be the best present EVER! I, too, stand in the driveway when Autumn leaves, watching those tail-lights until long after they are gone. I'm sure it's hard for them to see their dad. I feel for your family. Tomorrow we will be spending the day with friends, one of who has recently received his AZ dx and seems to be declining rapidly. Very sad as he has always been so sharp and funny. I do indeed think you lucked out in the DSIL department!

CAROL - butterscotch bar cookies?? Yummmmm..... I'm trying to think of a diabetic friendly dessert to take tomorrow to the lake gathering. Those don't sound like they'd fit well into a diabetic diet.

BECCA - I'm so sorry you lost a friend. Maybe you could make a special lap quilt just for you for winter evenings - with your favorite color on one side and hers on the other. In memory of the good times you shared together.

CHICKIE - sorry that we're not coming after all. To be honest, we weren't looking forward to a 4,000 mile trip in 100* heat. Coming from the PNW, it's a shocker when we go east of the Cascades in the summer. Which we are doing next Monday. Ugh. For a whole week. I want to see our friends who will meet us, but sure don't relish the heat!

Well, DH is waiting for me. he's all hitched up and ready to roll into Tacoma to the repair shop. He's in his antsy mode. As for supper - spaghetti and meatballs. It's always a crowd pleaser around here!

Mary, I'm so excited for you getting a new 5th wheel, so cool!
Becca, so sorry for your loss, I do like Mary's idea about the lap quilt though.
Irish, I hope your day was fantastic!
Carol, your cookies sound so yummy! Can I have the recipe please?
Chickie, I hope today is cooler for you.

Mom had a Dr's appointment Monday but when she got to the office the Dr was out a all this week and they said they called her and left a message, she didn't get any message so she asked them what number they called....they dialed the wrong area code, ugh. She's been going to this Dr for 16 years, how could they possibly get that wrong?! They said they'd reschedule but not till September, she said no way, it's their mess up so they need toget her in next week, she's having trouble breathing and that's the kind of Dr he is. Her next cat scan is tomorrow, that Dr is saying the growth isn't attached to her rectum now but is growing from a source that makes her blood....Mom couldn't remember the word. She was really extra confused and very agitated yesterday.

I'm not sure yet what I'll be making for supper, Mary's supper sounds yummy...I'm going to see what you all are planning, maybe I'll copy one of you LOL

Butterscotch Brownies
1/4 cup butter
1 cup packed light brown sugar
1 egg
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder 1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp vanilla
1/2 cup coarsely chopped walnuts
Heat oven to 350*. Melt butter over low heat, add brown sugar and stir until blended; cool. Stir in egg. Stir in flour, baking powder and salt and blend in. Mix in vanilla and walnuts. Spread in well- greased square pan 8x8x2. Bake 25 min. Do not overbake. Cut into squares while warm. (Makes 18 bars about 2-1/2 x 1". (i use two pieces of parchment to line the pan in a cross fashion so they are easy to get out of pan.

I am off for a sewing day of comfort quilts.

Good afternoon! I forgot to check in today. Oops! The Hooligans and I walked down to see Ava today—another hot and sticky day!

Mary—congratulations on the “happy camper” sign!!! I’m sad when YOUR tail lights leave our lane. I don’t blame you for not looking forward to THAT trip!!! Too hot and humid! … and LONG!

Becca—it all sounds delicious at your house!

Carol—the recipe sounds delicious… probably pecans will be the addition here.

Tina—So sorry about the doc appointment. Can you have them use your phone number as the primary number?

I’ve been quilting on my project today. I’m doing Thread Journey with Wendy Sheppard as a sew along. I wish I could do free motion quilting. Her feathers are incredible.

Dinner tonight… re-runs for DH from last night, and I think I’ll go with a salad with lettuce, broccoli, tomatoes, and maybe some “stuff”… (think nicoise). It just sounds good to me on a hot day. I need to go pick some tomatoes…

Enjoy!
