I have lots of fabric that has been stored for a while and now it has a musty smell. Can't understand why with Indiana being a desert area - Do any of you know a foolproof way to get rid of the smell and not ruin the fabric?

Re: Musty smell
Diana...try soaking it in Borax..then wash it with regular detergent and add some borax.
Wash it in the hottest water possible for the type/quality of fabric.
I have had both musty and smoke smelling fabric and this has worked for me over the years.
After all that I will, if it still smells and it is special to me, I'll put it in a bin and add a couple UNSCENTED fabric softener sheets and cover it for a few weeks..if it still smells after that, sadly, I throw it out..Good Luck!...Sonya.
