SUPPER CLUB - Fri, Aug 12th

Post by purrfect-lady » Fri Aug 12, 2016 3:21 am

Good Morning!

Yesterday was Warren's funeral and what a nice memorial his family put together. They talked of "the dash" - the dash between the date of birth and the date of death. All the stories and photos certainly revealed what a rich and fulfilling 'dash' Warren and Lois had. Made me want to re-evaluate my own 'dash'. Then last night, one couple came over after dinner with a very special red wine (Warren was our wine guru) and we sat our on our deck until 9:30, toasting him and sharing memories.

Today is going to be working on my Christmas swap blocks and hopefully finishing the last 3, some serious dusting and vac'g, dancing with the Maytags. When the dirties start to snarl at me, I know their time has come.

TiNA - thanks for the recipe. My neighbor that I walk with this morning has zucchini filling her garden and she is always looking for new ways to cook it. So your recipe is timely. I will share the recipe with her and she will probably share her zucchini with me. I got all 12 of my chilies in the freezer! haha! Folks, I saw Hatch chilies in the store, immediately thought of Tina, and bought 6 mild and 6 hot (1-1/3# total). Tina told me how to prep them for the freezer and it took me about an hour to roast, steam, peel, seed, wash, dry, and pack them. and then she told me she does 40# at a time!!

IRISH - such a sweet story of how you and Jim met! You were quite young when you married, weren't you? Probably didn't think so then, though! Busy, happy weekend ahead for you. Glad so many folks will be there. You need your back-up 'in the know' so they can back you up! and of course, simply seeing your Kathy and Terry will bolster you. Now if only the Schwann's man would make a delivery your weekend would be complete!

CHICKIE - Doyal talks big, but I know he loves your Hooligans, almost as much as you do. I'm not sure though, if an evening ride calms down dogs like it does some little kids. Maybe an ATV ride with them running alongside? I think you hit my T.W. quilt colors almost on the head. I have learned that my friend's fave colors are black, white, and yellow. Yellow?? Never seen her wear yellow, but oh well. anyway, I'm thinking of black, golds, bit of white perhaps, and a dash of something colorful - yellow, red. I'm narrowing it down! but it won't be any Asian fabrics, because I hear that's popular only for cats! (snicker.)

BECCA - Well, gosh! I want to know the name and not sure I can wait 3 weeks! I've heard that deodorant takes itch and sting out of mosquito bites (don't know if it's true, though). Maybe it works on bee stings, too. Also, lavender oil helps with pain.

IZZY - wishing the best for your parents. I think you said they live 1/2 hour from you. As their care becomes heavier, is there any chance they could move closer? they are lucky to have you!

CAROL - glad to have you back! You know how we worry!

Last night I really loaded up our pizza and it was filling. Consequently, there is still half of it left for tonite! so no cooking here!

What's the story at your place?

Carol Always glad to hear from you.

Tina Hope you are feeling more like yourself.Hard to cope in the heat with sickness.

Mary sounds like a great evening, I bet there was some wet eyes and laughter with all the great memories.
Becca, I wouldn't have gone on my walk this morning if I were you, I'd be afraid the bear was still lurking. I'm doing OK, haven't been sleeping very well but my head doesn't feel like it's going to explode anymore. I'm hoping this weekend I can have some lazy time... But I'm doubting it......

It's payday so we might eat out, I'm not sure yet.
Tina

Dogs, kids and husbands will make a liar out of you every time… Last night I made calabacitas, and I must say mui delisioso!!! I left some corn separate for DH. He ate two helpings of the calabacitas!!! So much for the guy who doesn’t like Mexican food! LOL!!! I put a roasted Hatch chile in mine to add some heat, but it wasn’t too spicy at all… just pleasant. You could make it and leave out the “hot stuff” completely for a fun vegetable side dish—so colorful with red and green bell peppers (although my green was a poblano).

Mary—I left some of the roasted skin and all the seeds in mine. They were given to me with the charred skin on them and already frozen. If I ever see any in the store, I’ll get them. Your day yesterday was bittersweet… Good luck with the quilt! I’m sure your friend will love it… or maybe her cats will!

Speaking of cats… the cutest little Tuxedo tom was in the yard last night. He had a mustache, a goatee and a little dirty face. He was so friendly and didn’t seem hungry, although the was skinny. He enjoyed entwining himself around my legs and getting pets and yowling the whole time. I was sure I’d been hearing a cat! I think he lives under the little shed, and he probably catches the rats that have been in my garden as well as field mice. Of course, when the Hooligans came out and saw him, all you-know-what broke loose. Kitty won! The Hooligans were running around the shed trying to find out where he went, so I’m not too worried about his safety. I’m glad it was a “real” cat, not the stripe-down-the-back tuxedo varmints! I wish the Hooligans would make friends… sigh! Odie would, but the others won’t.

The Hooligans were better last night, or DH was too tired to notice… I let Boomer and Tinker Bell out when Boomer got to scratching on the door. Tinker Bell came back in before too long, but Boomer stayed out. Then Odie decided to go out with Boomer, so they stayed awhile. When Odie wanted back in, both came inside and that was the end of the roaming. DH didn’t hear a thing. (Thankfully!) Of course, the Hooligans are still sacked out.

Izzy—I’m so sorry your dad is treating your mom so badly. The caregiver or person there the most always gets the brunt of the attacks. Even knowing it’s the illness, it’s still difficult not to take it personally.

DH is home. TTYL… Dinner is the last of the calabacita mix as well as fajitas.

Good morning!

The freezer is still hanging in there. As for dinner, who knows! My stash is at Sarah's, so will have her bring a few things back.

Tomorrow my kids will be out working on the yard, so I have some Caspar's hot dogs ditched and will break them out for them as a treat for their help. Daniel is coming back in a couple of weeks with more.

Mary - Warren was smiling at the enjoyment of his teaching. Your nightlife sounds familiar, here it's Perry Mason and DH falls asleep.

Becca- a Bear! I too would be wary of a walk out there. Here we have a few grizzlies, but they stay far up in the mountains. We get the big cats, cougars in the neighborhood.

Tina - hope you are better- chasing and potty training needs full Attention!

Well, better get doing something,
Enjoy,
Jana
