Daily Devotion 8/8

What a great verse to start off the week with. All of us have said something we wish we could take back; all of us have been hurt by anothers words; and all of us have been angered to the point of saying something we really shouldn't. Yet, if we could all bite our tongue and hold in that thought; ask for forgiveness and apologize; or just turn the other cheek and walk away--we would not have so many regrets.

The bible teaches us that the tongue is a two edged sword. both sweet and evil can drip from it. Sometimes our words are very offensive even though to us they seem the norm. I have friends that put can put a sailor to shame with their cursing; they see no damage in the use of the profanity. Its offensive and just plain ugly but our ears have come to take it as the norm. I can recall when on TV shows they could not curse and it was like a big shock when it did come out. Now they use cursing even when making a movie about the past in the 1800s that you know they didnt even have that curse word then.

My thoughts today are to FORGIVE, FORGET, AND TURN THE OTHER CHEEK about all that WAS, WILL OR COULD BE said towards me. May each of you be able to do the same.

God bless
Izzy

great advice Izzy, and a perfect verse for me.

The other day at work I had to order toilet paper. I asked the person I ordered from if the paper was soft enough for our tushies. well, dummy that I am I sent the e-mail to the wrong group and management saw it. Most laughed and told me just watch what I say. but one person said she was offended. this same person was in a meeting where management said the word crap. she wasn't offended then. I learned my lesson. think twice speak once.

I agree about the cursing in movies, it's also in books. amazing how things have become.

Izzy What great words to start our wk.Words can hurt or be uplifting. My Grandmother taught me the least word said is the least words mended.Words are powerful & may we ever be mindful of what we say.

Our World today thinks profanity is necessary .Oh that we could return to how it used to be offensive.

Yes, the tongue is a sharp tool. But we can control it and use it for so much good.

We sing a hymn, Let us often speak kind words to each other.
At home or where ere we may be.
Like the warblings of birds on the heather.
The tones will be welcome and free.
They'll gladden the heart that's repining.
Give courage and hope from above.
And where the dark clouds hide the shining,
let in the bright hope from above.

Oh the kinds words we give will in memory live and the sunshine forever impart,
Let us often speak kind words to each other, kinds words are sweet tones of the heart.

It is something I am striving to do.

Amen, Izzy,

In our troubling times, forgiveness is so important.

I really wish the politicians would quit all of their sharp tongues and talk about the issues that our country faces instead.

The picture you gave us today reminded me of the beauty we enjoyed on the lake this morning while we were fishing. It makes you feel so close to God with the beauty in the sky reflecting off the water.

Thank you so much for your message. It is always uplifting.

AMEN!....DH and I was talking about this verse just last night.
Just cannot get over the language that has been deemed acceptable by so many.
I've given up watching movies unless they are on UP, Inspiration Channel or Hallmark...and even then some are questionable ...
As far as forgiveness...it is so hard for me sometimes..but I am working on it..:)

Maybe I need to take a break and get to the lake and go fishing like Velda...other than quilting...it's my favorite thing to do and haven't been for a very long time..

Thanks for the message, Izzy..:)

Sonya.
