SUPPER CLUB - Fri, July 22nd

Post by purrfect-lady » Fri Jul 22, 2016 1:52 am

Good morning!

We are having a bit T-storm and pouring rain, so I'm going to make this short and turn computer off.

CHICKIE - too hot for me! Yay for 'Tasha coming back!
BECCA - glad there was sewing in your day!
ABITA - I don't think I could can or make jam in your heat!

I did get one last batch of blackberry jam made yesterday. Did a little sewing, and then we went to our friends for that glass of wine. Their other friends were a no-show and the evening turned out to be a full dinner! They only told us "a glass of wine". Good thing I didn't have a casserole in the oven waiting for us! Supper was grilled spare ribs, macaroni salad, corn on the cob and watermelon - with brownies and coffee for afters.

Tonite's supper is something with chicken. More corn on the cob (because that's what we were going to have last night) and salad.

Got to run and turn off this computer and my sewing machine!

Bon Appetit`!

Except for some light rain, the storm has passed now. I wanted to tell you that Tina has company at her house for a week, so she's been pretty busy. and hot! But says 'hi'!

Good Morning!
I am so glad this week is over! I really am learning to say no to people who ask me to volunteer to do something.

Maryz - How nice to have a glass of wine invitation turn into a dinner invitation! Sounds good.

Becca - Glad you got a walk in early. It would be so nice to have some rain! I have been watering the tomato and cucumber plants almost daily. All of them look beautiful. I counted 15 blossoms on the cucumber plants.

Jana - Read that you are getting everything put away after the paint job.

Chickie - Enjoy you DGD's visit.

Today DH is working from home this morning then he is going out this afternoon. I need to go to Target today. I will be sewing a charity quilt and going to the gym.

Dinner tonight will be leftover Apricot Chicken, mashed potatoes, salad and a vegetable.

Have a great day everyone!
Carol

Good morning,

Still dealing with heat -101 or more. So glad I live here and not in St George. There's a joke here in Utah, if I owned a house in St George and one in hell, I rent out the house in St George and live in hell! Might be cooler! LOL

Dinner - Kate loves my chicken and rice cassarole, so that will be dinner. Easy peasy!

Got fabric for a new baby quilt and will get it made today. Sarah will be here, so I will get her to quilt it. The baby is due in a couple of weeks, but the mom seems to go early. Best get in gear! its for my neighbor. They refer to themselves as our other children.

Best get going,
Enjoy,
Jana

Good early afternoon from a soggy, dreary but warm SW. PA.....I don't think this is what the weather people had predicted but do we really listen to "those in the forecasting business"???? We are having thunder and 1 big boomer hit and I almost fell off my chair.....

Mary, what a neat surprise...Love these kinds of friends...Just the other day, in TV flipping, I heard Kelly Ripa tell about a study that says, everyone should drink a bottle of wine a day and or have, I thought she said, a couple of pints of beer a day. Supposed to be healthy! ..I'd be a blooming idiot if I'd have more than 2 glasses of wine and forget the beer....

Glad to hear Tina is OK, just entertaining and busy...But, for her, she's always busy... and hot!

Becca, gotta hand it to you, you also are darn busy....And your dinners sound so tempting....So far, I've gotten 1 ripe tomato and the deer have gotten quite a few green ones....Guess I'll be going to the farmer's market.....

Carol, Finally learning to say "no", that hard isn't it? I think you get to a point where you just gotta get tough, lol.....Your dinners always sound so good, too...AND you also are quite busy and also going to the gym, yikes.....So far I've gotten 2 cukes and I devoured both...Wash them, peal them, slice them and use a little salt, heaven.....

Well, being a wet day, that cancels the outside stuff so, gosh darn, I might have to sew....I have some 4 pair of my pants to hem, which I hate and sheers for the sewing room that need hemmed...I'm trying to hold off on starting something new until I get some of this other stuff cleared up.....
Jim had a very bad evening last night...Kept saying he was leaving, needed to go home and I finally had to call the boys to come down...I've talked to the local Office of the Aging and they're sending some information and also made another doctor's appointment...
Then I talked to my sister and her DH was mowing and the mower upset and both arms are banged up...So, I'm not the only one in the family who is having fun.......But, might not be the life we had dreamed about but, hey, you make the best of it, right!

And for our dinner, where's that bottle of wine, lol....Just not sure what we'll be having but, it might be hot ham/cheese sandwiches and a salad....And that good ice cream for afters.......

Happy eating......................

Good afternoon from the hot, hot, hot prairie. Everything outside looks hot and droopy. We're trying to stay cool inside. I wanted to take DGD to the county fair for Neosho county to see her cousin's project, but it's way too hot. The heat index is 108!

My sister texted me this morning and said she couldn't get Mom on the phone. They are out of town and I'm on "Mom Duty." I tried several times to call her with no answer, so I went to town. I left DGD at home with the Hooligans, and DH was at geezer coffee. My legs were weak, and I was dreading what I might find. I called again as I was on the road... no answer. When I got to Mom's, I saw that she had been up and got her newspaper, and that made me feel a little better. I used my key and went inside. Imagine my shock and relief... Mom was up making her breakfast. She had been sleeping super soundly, and because she is pretty much stone deaf didn't hear a thing. Whew!!! I was so relieved! She looked surprised to see me and asked what I was doing there. I said, "Oh, Mom, I'm so glad you are o.k.!!!" and gave her a huge hug. I had to sit down and let my legs recuperate from being so rubbery and my heart slow down. I always worry when my sister is out of town that something will happen "on my watch." I dodged the bullet this time!!! Mom had been up and read the paper early then laid back down as she usually does. She rests a lot any more. I'm sure at 97, she's probably tired. Actually, her health is excellent. We just worry about falls, as she is getting frail. Since her fall last winter, she uses her walker faithfully--thank goodness!!!

That was my big adventure! We made lasagna this afternoon, and now ours is in the oven for tonight. Tasha will make a salad, and I'll fix some veggies. I'm sure we can find something for dessert. I need to water and see if there are any blackberries to pick, but it's still 97 with a heat index of 103. Maybe after dinner...

Tasha is making a fabric painting of a VW Van for her mom for her birthday. It will be a quilted wall hanging or a pillow when it's finished. She had her American Girl book of Grandma and Me, and we did some of the activities in it. It's fun to find out things about each other.

P.S. Irish--so sorry for your ordeal last night. We went through that with MIL... both here at the house when she lived with us and at the nursing home. We got called to go in and calm her down several times. She packed up her Depends and her dog food and dog and was going to go somewhere in her car... Running away from us. She couldn't figure out how to get the seat up close to drive it. She was trying to read the manual upside down to figure out the seat. She also had a key that would unlock it, but it wouldn't start the ignition. I guess to her Depends and dog food were the necessities of life on the road. LOL! After we came home to that scenario, we didn't leave her alone any more.
