Q; Private health care... ?????
Hi ladies, Stephen & I are thinking about relocating to the USA next year. Now I was born in the UK and I've always lived and worked here so the concept of Private health care is very new to me, as I have always had the safety net of the 'NHS'.
I thought I would throw the question out there to you ladies if you don't mind answering...
I'm looking to find out;
'What is the average annual premium for private health care'?
Thank you in anticipation...

Re: Q; Private health care... ?????
If you are working, it is usually a shared expense between yourself and the employer. That can vary greatly depending on who you work for. I currently pay about $300 a month and employer pays the rest.
There is "Obama care" which was meant to provide everybody with health insurance, You get tax penalty if you don't comply. Tends to be really more than most people can pay. My sister has it and based on $2000 a month income, she pays $500 a month in Obama care for 70/30 program. Means they pay 70%, she pays 30% of costs. This also varies widely from state to state.
Private insurance can be astronoumical depending on the company you choose. Health care costs are one of the biggest concerns in this country. I would look around the internet and do some pricing before I make this decision. I don't know how long after coming to need to obtain insurance or if you have to have it in place when you come. In the field I am in, (home nursing) I see many people who families try to care for at home because they can't afford the cost of care homes, welfare only pays for a nursing home and many will no longer take welfare. These people really suffer because their options are so limited and the families do not have medical training. We do the best we can to teach them but caring for an adult who can do nothing for them self is a much bigger task than many realize.
Good luck, would love to have you closer! What part of the USA are you planning to come to?
Valerie

Thanks Valerie, I'm dumb struck with the 'cost' issue!! Health care insurance is really very pricey!!! Gosh!! We would hope that Stephen would have a shared Insurance through whoever he gains work with.
We are looking at Wisconsin if we are fortunate enough to make the leap. Lots will have to be looked at and considered. I'm crossing my fingers. We would be looking at next year sometime, depending on employment.
We're thoroughly spoiled over here with the NHS I have to say... We would hope to keep a small place over here in the UK, probably a small flat in the north of England near my parents.
It's funny you mentioning 'Home care' & 'Care homes' as that is my line of work and has been for the last 20 years... I currently work nightshift in a care home, (3 nights a week) and also work 16 hours a week out in the community. I can see it would be a costly problem for families. We're lucky here in the UK that a lot of home care bills are funded by the government.
Well, we will see what the future holds, thanks for your info it's most eye opening!

Hi Jacquie,
I would agree with what Valerie told you. Healthcare costs are high here. Obama care has only made it worse and the costs have skyrocketed, and will continue to climb. We have private healthcare since neither of us is working, so we pay a huge amount each month, and are basically only covered for a catastrophe. We still have to pay out for doctor visits, prescriptions, etc., until we have reached 10k during each year.
So, long story short, having a job that covers part of your healthcare costs is very important.
Sorry to bring you down, but it's the truth.
Joan

My son-in-laws parent pay $2,000 a month and they are retired and quite healthy. It would be a shame for you not to come here to live, however, I can understand.

I happen to be very fortunate,,Ken has always had full coverage paid for by his employer,,,we have a co pay of $10 for in network Drs and $20 if they are not...that being said we retired,,,so our employer has a retirees package,,,we pay a premium each month deducted from our pension check..we have excellent coverage ad Meducare,,so we hve to pay very little...a blessing for sure.
If you are going to work here it is wise to check with potential emplyers on the overage you will recieve now and when you retire...Hope to hear things are going well and if it happens WELCOME TO THE USA xxxooo
