SUPPER CLUB - Thanksgiving Eve - Nov 25

Post by purrfect-lady » Wed Nov 25, 2015 3:28 am

Good Morning!

We have a cold wind this morning, though no rain. If there was any moisture in the air, I think it would be white moisture. I have to go to the grocery store this morning and the smart play would be to go now so I think, as soon as I finish chatting you all up, that's what I'll do.

BECCA - so sorry to hear you are feeling so far under the weather. Nice that your DD is bringing dinner to you tomorrow. She sounds like a sweetie. And I hope you are doing better soon! the Raggedy Ann pattern returned home in fine shape yesterday!

IRISH - after reading of your Eat-a-Palooza for the next few days, I just had to push back from the computer!! But my take-away is No Cooking!! Life is grand!

JANA - glad you only had one bulky seam to struggle with. That's a good hint for totes. I've been using those flexible veggie cutting mats. I can buy three of them for $1 in the giant flea markets in Arizona so I stock up. When I suggested to Tina that she cut up her old cutting mat for this purpose, I didn't realize that she thought I meant for her to cut up her FABRIC cutting mat! so happy we got it straight before she followed my crooked advice!! lol!

CHICKIE - yesterday when Bill has his Ganglion cyst surgery, one of the nurses was telling us about how she once just had her co-workers numb hers and hit it with a text book. I almost spit out my coffee!! She said she doesn't recoommend that method. Despite the novacaine, much pain ensued! lol!

Bill did well yesterday and is sporting a cast-like bandage. No bathing for 5 days. This could get ugly. I might have to bring out my old nursing skills and give him a basin bath. lol! But the poor guy is up-chucking this morning. He'll be better after a nap, a light breakfast, etc.

supper? I think we'll stick with light fair - probably eggs and toast and maybe some cottage cheese.

What are you all eating on the night before the biggest meal of the year?

Good morning! Mary--hope Bill gets better soon! My "surgery" on mine was only momentarily painful--60 seconds and it was over (no numbing first). Guess they are all different and more involved. No way to tape a plastic bag over his hand? At least it's not summer... things ripen faster in summer! Just sayin'!

I'm having some soup tonight, although there might be a chicken salad sandwich from the enormous chicken breast that is in the fridge. DH will be having a pork chop. I think he's getting tired of chicken.

The menu tomorrow has changed... Son #2 has decided to smoke a turkey instead of a brisket. I' not enamored with smoked turkey, but at least I'm not doing all the cooking this year! I'll be making pumpkin and pecan pies this afternoon. I may put some pecan halves on one of the pumpkin pies. Tomorrow morning I'll make some beer bread. Rolls would probably go better with the turkey, now that the menu has changed, so maybe... just maybe... I might make rolls.

Irish--I felt like Mary when I read about your continual feasting... just push away... but then it was... BRING IT ON!!! So glad you aren't doing all the cooking! Rest up and enjoy!!!

Becca--sure hope you feel better. A chronic condition is the pits!

On to pie making... Happy Thanksgiving to All!!!

It was starting to get light when I got home from the grocery store. (BTW, 6am is the ONLY time to grocery shop the day before TG!) and I looked around our yard - the same yard I just spent a week cleaning up. We had another windstorm through the night. Arggghhhh!! I'd really thought the leaves were all down. And could there have possibly been any more loose branches?? Yes. Yes, there could. Sigh. Guess where I'll be spending my Black Friday. And is Black Friday enough of a thing now that it should be capitalized?

Good morning!

Mary - yes, 6 a.m. is the only time to go to the store on any holiday eve! Hope Bill is doing better today. Men are the worst patients!

Chickie - I too am not fond of smoked turkey - that brisket would have been yummy!

The grands will be here later thus morning. Ethan already is here - Sarah had to go in for a few hours to get bills paid and payroll out.

Black Friday - with the way each store is trying to out do the others, they should just cancel the whole idea of special sales! I use the day to stay in and sew!

Dinner tonight will be a batch of tortilla soup. Easy - I still have several pies to make today.

Enjoy,
Jana

Oh goodness Mary, I'd be upset too if I spent all that time doing yard work to have it all messed up again overnight! I hope Bill gets to feeling better soon.
Chickie, I live for the day that I get invited somewhere else for Thanksgiving :-)
We'll be having 14 here tomorrow :-) Mom and Dad, my youngest brother and Kevin will all be here this afternoon and evening :-) I've got chicken thawing to make soup with :-) I'll be starting my pies in a while, I just hate to start messing up when my house is all clean and shiny LOL :-) Frankie helped me finish last night, my dumb old sciatic nerve has really been screaming extra loud this month, it always hurts but I try to still get things done, I'm just slow....this month let's just say its been hard to do things.
You all have a great Thanksgiving!
Tina

Good early afternoon from a very sunny but chilly, SW. Pa.....
Sounds like a very busy day for everyone......

Oh Mary, I feel so bad for Bill...Hate to hear about the tummy but, as soon as he "gets it out" he'll be feeling much better...As Chickie said, thank goodness it's not summer, lol...Years ago, our Chris had broken his wrist and we were on our way to the beach so we packed a lot of plastic bread wrappers and he was still able to enjoy the trip...And, thinking back, he really did enjoy that trip...He walked up and down the beach with my camera, telling bikini clad beauties he was with the press...My beach pictures consisted of 2 rolls of bathing beauties...One of my funny memories......

Becca, been thinking and praying real hard, hoping you are feeling better.....

Just had a text from Terry and they are about 1 1/2 hours away...I just texted back, I'd warn the neighbors and lock the doors...Finished all the uglies (as Jim would say, are we expecting royality?)..Babygirl is very upset with me..She had started sleeping on the ironing board in the sewing room but now it's gone and the room is now back to a bedroom..It's hard to tell where she end up tonight..Need to get some pies baked along with some other goodies... and decide what to cook for my hungry travelers....

Not sure what dinner will be....I was thinking of a tortillini casserole with garlic bread or maybe just plain old hot dogs, sauerkraut and baked beans.....

Happy eating..............

Happy Thanksgiving everyone......We really do have a lot to be thankful for..................
