SUPPER CLUB - Monday, Aug 31st

Post by purrfect-lady » Mon Aug 31, 2015 3:39 am

The last day of August. To put it into the words of Porky Pig, "Th-th-th-that's all, Folks!" We're having a very breezy morning. I'd say windy, but compared to last Saturday, this is merely breezy. Still keeping my eye on that big rotten tree, though. I almost got my Sunbonnet Kitties finished for the cat swap. This morning will do it for them, except for a week bit of handwork during TV tonite. Then, as long as the weather is keeping me inside, I'll be starting on some blocks for Tina's comfort quilt projects.

IRISH - Bill and I go to breakfast with my DB and SIL almost every Sunday at the local tavern. We get a bowl of fresh fruit - and there's usually 8 to 10 kinds of GOOD fruit in the bowl - a small waffle, and THEN they ask what you want to order. We don't eat much lunch on Sundays! And it's OK with me if you like the SEahawks. I don't like Vick either and think the same thing you do. But you watch! One day he'll be on Dancing with the Stars! ugh!

TINA - you made chili rellenos and I wasn't there?? I need to try to make them myself. But I can never remember what kind of chilis to get. Not much variety here and even store owners can't help me pick them out. do you roast them and then freeze them? The older I get the more I love those green chilies!

JANA - I've had the privelege of eating your cooking. I would think anything you cook would be a hit!

LADY CAROL - today will be my day with Mr. Maytag, too. But I'm not much on ironing anymore since DH retired. We both live in Teeshirts and jeans so I moved my ironing board upstairs to the sewing room where it gets some REAL use! But I'm happy to say, my Bill does know how to iron if push comes to shove.

I did make our soup yesterday and just as it was ready to eat, my SIL called us to come see their new motorhome. They'd just gotten home with it from the dealership. This we did and ended up staying for beer and ordering pizza delivered right to the rig. So now we have soup in the fridge for tonite. See? No cooking again! It's working for me!

What's working for you tonite?

Good morning from sunny, warm, heavenly SW. Pa....Another purrrrfect day, here in the east or in my part of the east....

Mary, I worried about you all night, darn that tree...I kind of know what you're going through, there is a big old maple in the yard between us and the neighbors and it's going to go one of these years...When we sold the house next door, we divided the property to make sure that tree was on THEIR property and hopefully, when if falls, it will still be on their property.....Good for you to get your kitties done....I had to put mine away until we get back but have 1/2 of them done.....

Lady Carol, I'm joining in the Mt. Washmore group today...Just can't figure out how 2 people can have so much laundry...Good thing I don't mind that "ugly".....Hope Mary remembers to pick me up for Tuesday's jammie doughnuts, better get extra..............

Here's one you'll love....Sitting here at the desk, I watched Mr. Schwan stop next door...Not sure if he knew to come here, Jim went running down the street...He's 1 busy man, said, he'd be back about 12:30 (shorts and all) and I'll be more than ready, lol......

As for dinner, I have no idea but I'm thinking something from Schwan...Another day, I'm feeling kind of lazy (kitchen wise) so maybe sliders with roasted veggies and ice cream sandwiches, all from the short wearing chef........Sounds like a plan to me!

Happy eating.................

Good morning,

Mary - way to go - no cooking tonight! Is this a replacement for the motorhome that kept breaking in Alaska?

Irish - when you fly to Kathy's, is it a direct flught to Reno?

I have leftover soup from the other night - I will hide it deep in the refrigerator to keep Michael out of it for our dinner tonight. If it is not out in frint, he can't find it - a guy thing! LOL

Enjoy,
Jana

Irish, :o) you make me giggle with your Schwan's man in shorts :o) have you seen the commercial for the Jeta I think it is? Every time I see that commercial I think of you :o) LOL

Oh I forgot......
I don't know what kind they are either, that part doesn't really matter though, you just need to know what heat level you like. These are mild and have no heat at all but a good flavor, we'll get either medium or medium hot and when I cook stuff I'll mix them so it has a little zing :o) Usually medium here is just right, Frankie picked up the chili yesterday and didn't hear medium but mild instead LOL oh well we'll eat em :o) They roast them for us wherever we buy them and then we bring them home and peal the roasted skins off and take the stem off and seeds out then I wash them in a very small stream of water then pat them dry with paper towels and lay them flat side by side in ziplock freezer bags so when I want to use some I can take 1 or 10 out at a time, they aren't all stuck together doing them flat like that :o) It took us 3 hours to do the 30-35 pound bag yesterday, 19 freezer bags with 10-12 in each one :o) You can roast just a few on your BBQ grill (open flame) to blister the skins good, they need to be fully blistered, starting to turn black brown so the skin comes off easy :o)you keep flipping them. Here they have chili roaters that is a round cylinder and it turns around and the flames blow up through the cylinder thing, we have a small homemade one that Frankie made years ago, we just hook the propane tank to it and can roast about 15-20 at a time. I hope you understand all my gibberish :o)

Good Evening All......wet......wet.....wet.....

this is our last Bank Holiday week end before Christmas.......now that is scary.....where has this year gone....ok....so ,I know I got lost somewhere in the bygone months...BUT....I must be getting old.....the time doesn't drift by serenely anymore.....it gallops at a rate of knots.......

Last week I was cutting and putting together 4 patches to use at some time....did 200.....this week am cutting Tumblers.....I love those in quilts.....think I have made a couple of them.....did one in all different "sweet" (candy) fabrics....took nearly a year to collect all those fabrics......and then forgot to take a photo.....mind you still don't know how to post them.....but living in hopes (still) of learning......

and now to food.......todays menu......so much pork leftover from yesterday Roast.....it was a repeat......Pork....Creamed Potatoes.....Runner Beans....but no Carrots.....Bananas and Custard for afters.......

Wow, Mary! You have had some wild winds! We saw it on the news, and I told DH you were cleaning up damage like the people on the screen. Hope the big tree doesn’t come down on you all. I need to work on Tina’s quilts, too! Trying to play catch up with everything… need to start Christmas sewing, too.

I survived the weekend! We had around 30 for brunch. If anyone went home hungry, it was not my fault. I had a huge spread—lots of variety! We had some left overs, so no cooking breakfast for a few days.

Carol—I can’t believe it’s only 3 months to Christmas… crazy!!! I like scrappy quilts, and your 4-patches and tumblers are perfect!

Tina—when I freeze things individually, I put them on a cookie sheet with plastic wrap or foil over them and freeze them for a few hours. Then I put them in serving size freezer bags. They don’t stick together when they are frozen. I love chilies relleños! Those Jetta commercials are a hoot!

Jana—that’s such a guy thing… I can hide anything in the fridge almost in plain sight.

Irish—I’m hanging out my laundry today. Love your tales of Mr. Schwann!!!

Dinner here? Probably something easy. I’m really sick and tired of cooking. I’m thinking maybe ham sandwiches or brats in buns. I need to pick tomatoes and raspberries… There’s pie and cake for afters. DDIL brought DH a warm blackberry pie last evening. Oh my! It is out of this world!

Enjoy!
