SUPPER CLUB - Thurs, June 25th
Hi, there!
We're still in Oregon where there is indeed a heat wave going on - and picking up speed. Today will be 91*, Friday - 100* and 104* on Saturday, the day of the BBQ sponsored by the factory along with a door prize giveaway - the highlight of the rally. All held outside in the sun, usually. They have a clubhouse and tents up, so maybe we'll find shade.
Last night's supper was planned by DH and friend, Tex. Ribs in the dutch oven and Bill said he'd make his usual cornbread and pineapple upside down cake. You know, it sounds nice to hear, "The men are cooking", but between you and me and the forum monitor, all that means is double work for me! The other wife and I have to go over the recipes, do the shopping, do the prepping, chopping, mixing, etc. Our DH's dump the food in the pot, and stand around in aprons with clever sayings on them, wielding a tongs, and sipping a beer. Wives meanwhile are setting up tables, carting tablecothes, plates, napkins, silverware, S&P, butter, etc, up and down the steps, trying to make sure cats don't get out the door. Afterward, the men claim the kudos while we women reverse the carting process, and spend the rest of the evening washing dishes and cleaning mess. The men are so proud of their 'cooking' and look to us for praise for giving us "a night off". LOL! I hope we get no more nights off for a while! We're beat!
Tonite is social night where everyone takes an appetizer. I'm going to do an antipasto platter - black olives, grape tomatoes, sliced mushrooms, garbanzo beans, pepperoncini, pepperoni, cubed cheese all marinated in Italian dressing for a few hours. EASY!
I hope your supper tonite is just as easy!

Good morning from a dreary, maybe get some rain, maybe not, SW. Pa...I so wish we could send some rain and cooler temps to those living out west...Just saw on the news about more fires....
Mary, so glad to see you back at the table, you have been missed...I can't believe the heat you guys in the west are getting...Kathy told me, last Sunday, they headed for the mountains just to get some relief.....Boy, it sounds like you had a "night off" but isn't that the way it usually goes....Every once in awhile, you have to let them think they're doing something special, I guess....
Not sure what I'm going to do today...Morning started off with scrubbing the carpet in the back bedroom because one of the fur babies had an accident...Probably should just keep going and do all the carpets upstairs but we'll see....Also was putting up a mini blind in the downstairs bathroom and of course it doesn't fit right so I have to work on that....When I think back, Jim would have looked at the blind, decided what needed to be done and did it, but now it's a different story...But, we get things done......We have a running joke, almost every morning, I'll be reading the paper and see the ads and say, guess I'd better go shopping and Jim will say, good idea, I'll go with you and then we both have a good laugh...Neither one of us are shoppers (unless it's pet stuff or fabric)...The only place he'll go is Aldi.lol
As far as dinner, no clue...Being dreary and slightly cooler, I could put something in the oven but nothing has jumped out at me yet....
AND would you believe, Mr. Schwann didn't show up, yet again, yesterday.....I'm beginning to think he's afraid of me, lol..One of these days, when I least expect him, he'll pop in.....One good thing, by him not coming, I'm able to get the freezer cleaned out and ready for new stuff......
Happy eating..................

Hello everyone,Another hot one.Sounds like a broken record.We have been 97 or 96 for at least 2 was now.Very unusual .
Mary's What a joke about the men cooking. That includes clean up dicing peeling, the whole 9 yards. You should get to sit back in lounge chair with feet up.
Irish Your shopping sounds like ours. I told my DDIL on Sunday while we were in restaurant eating, that I did not go out enough to know what clothes are in style. Not that I worry because antything goes these days.lol
It was another lab work for DH ,groceries & library. We picked up his roast beef in Deli.I have fresh tomatoe sandwich.Got lots of fresh fruits too .Also lemon cookies & ice cream.....Becca

Maryz: So glad to see you post today. Wow, you wore me out, just reading how hard the "ladies" had to work on the meal. LOL. It does seem that men love to "cook", but really, it's all about watching the grill and drinking the beer and chit chatting with the other guys.
LOL I really enjoyed how you explained it.
What's really nice, is when the men REALLY DO THE COOKING and take us out to eat!!!! My DH surprised me last night and did just that! It was really nice!! We went to TGIFridays for the Jack Daniel's Flat Iron Steak. Yummmmmm!
Tonight supper is in the crock pot. Having my crock pot pork. It is smelling so good 'bout now. Makes me hungry already.
Tonight is dancing night, so I won't have much to do to get dinner on the table. Instant potatoe mix (Three Cheese mashed Potato), salad, and a vegi.
Carol: Your vacation sounds wonderful even if you are a bit tired. Tell us more about the details when you can. Great to see you back.
Becca: sounds hot there by you, just like most of the country right now. I know what you mean about not keeping up with the styles. I just wear what I can find in the closet. LOL
Irish: no fun cleaning carpet. Ugh! But it is nice to have things fresh and nice again. Sorry to hear it was a boo boo, that brought it all on, though.
Happy eating tonight. See you all again tomorrow, I hope.

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Thurs, June 25th
Good afternoon! We’re pushing the heat index and temperatures today as well!
MaryZ—I’m sure glad my DH doesn’t “cook”! He has no idea what happens in the kitchen or a grill. I’m probably better off just doing it all… at least I can control my mess! I try not to have every pan, bowl and utensil in the house dirty when I’m in the kitchen. However, your dinners do sound delicious!!!
Vel—my favorite thing to make for dinner is reservations, too. That doesn’t happen very often here, so Chez Mimm is open for all meals.
Lady Carol—it’s good to see you! You’re right, I always need a vacation to rest up from my vacation. Welcome home!
Becca—I only own jeans and t-shirts. I create my own style… whatever that is—more of a lack of style!
Irish—Those fires are so scary! I don’t shop, either. There is no place to go shopping around here… unless it is the fabric store, and I’m happy to drive the 30 miles there! Cooler sounds wonderful… even dreary… the sun shines with a vengeance.
As for dinner here… salads for each of us, and for DH some (leftover) steak and a couple of little potatoes. My entre will be (leftover) tofu chow mein. We have some rhubarb sauce for dessert.
I’m going to HAVE to cook tomorrow night. My re-runs are about depleted.
