SUPPER CLUB - Mon, Feb 16th

Post by purrfect-lady » Mon Feb 16, 2015 4:03 am

Happy President's Day!

IRISH - happy birthday to Jim! As it happens, there is a pkg coming your way and now it can be his birthday gift! That's too bad about Kathy's wrist. But I agree - she should have let you know!

CHICKIE - I have a recipe for a chocolate cake made in a crockpot. I've tried it. It is decadent! And I'm not a chocolate cake fan!

JANA - sounds like you are coping well without your kitchen. So if your island is coming out, will another one go in or will your kitchen be re-configured? I need more details, girlfriend!

Yesterday I cleaned up small projects in my sewing room - 3 backings, a binding, and some sketches for my LQS challenge, due in June. Then I FINALLY got out a pattern I've had for 8 years and the tote of fabrics I've been collecting for it - all green/turquoise/blue batiks. It's a queen size quilt for my BFF's retirement. It has the appearance of a snail trail but isn't assembled the same way. It's a lot of cutting! Got a start on that yesterday.

Today, Mr. Maytag is awaiting my attendance on him. But I'll be able to get a lot of sewing time in, too, I think.

I froze the last of our lasagna for one of those hurried nights. Tonite will be split pea soup. I'll put it into the crockpot. I use turkey kielbasa when I don't have ham. And I like to add diced carrots, celery, onion, and bits of potato. When I first met DH he said he didn't like pea soup, but he likes mine. And after 23 years, I don't think he's just saying that, either. so glad because it's my favorite!

I hope you can have one of your favorites tonite, too!

Good morning,

Yes, Mary, I will still have a island - just not the odd shape that was there - it will be a rectangle with sink/dishwasher on one side and seating for 4 on the other. The side with the seats, will also have 12 inch deep cabinets . The island is red, with beadboard and lots of trim work. We moved the island slightly to the west side of the kitchen, giving us more room in the dining area. We are also having a new dining table made, that will also be a rectangle, with hidden leafs inside the top, and the table will expand to seat 12. So all the family can be seated together. My view doing the dishes is straight out the big east window, looking at the mountains across the valley.

Irish - Happy Birthday to Jim! We all know he found some goody to eat!

Dinner - out? We are going down to Matt's for cake and ice cream to celebrate all the February BDs. Mine, Sarah's and her DH's. We do this once a month throughout the year. Only months that we don't have any is April and June.

Enjoy,
Jana

Good morning! We have snow here, and it's pretty. Of course, I can say that as accumulation is supposed to be only an inch--just enough for "pretty". The ice under it isn't so pretty. We had sleet and freezing rain last evening.

Jana--your kitchen sounds fabulous! I had to do ours on a strict budget and sneak in what amenities I got. All DH could hear was the ka-ching of the credit cards as they were rung up. I'm happy with what I have, but I sure miss my Jenn-Aire. Jana--our FULL b-day month is April... all 3 of DH's sons and some of the grandkids and DH's sister.

The crock pot cake was decadent! I looked up some that were made with cake mixes, and I can see doing it with white chocolate or other flavors and not chocolate/chocolate. I'll eat whatever comes out of the pot! DH said his friend made his from scratch (no cake mix).

Tonight: TAMALES! I found some at the store that looked pretty authentic. Hope they taste that way! They are in corn husks not paper, and not in a can, and not Stouffer's. If they aren't good, my next best will be when I go see DD and go to the Mexican grocery store. I still might try making some...

Enjoy!

Good early afternoon from bitter cold, snowy, with more predicted, SW. Pa....BUT, we don't have nearly the snow they have up in the New England states, thank heavens.....Our roads are passible and we have no one without power, so far....I've decided, as long as we have enough of the essentials, I stay put......When the cat food runs short, we might be in trouble.....

Mary, isn't it amazing what you get into when you start cleaning...Jim decided he needed to see the papers on our cemetery plots, of all things..So, I started with the fire box, found the papers for him but boy do I have a pile to put through the shredder..One of our boys saves old papers etc. so he's going to get a bunch, whether he wants them or not...But, I do feel like I've accomplished something....And, I really do feel bad about not knowing about Kathy's break..She did say, this is taking her mind off Chris for a little while....She's a special gal, we are so blessed to have her in the family.....

Jana, I can only imagine how excited you must be, getting the kitchen they way you want it.....Can't wait to see the pictures....And, you're right, Jim did have some goodies....Kathy brought him a box of chocolates that he said, he might have to keep hidden....

Well, gotta run, our #3 DS, Kevin, just stopped in...
Our dinner will be a repeat of last night and I always feel left overs taste better the 2nd time around.....

Happy eating...............

Irish--I think flavors develop and almost everything is improved the second day. So sorry to hear about Kathy's break. She is definitely a sweetie!
