SUPPER CLUB - Thurs, Feb 5th
Good rainy morning! I guess I won't complain (too much). At least not to all of you who are in minus wind chill temps. I find I don't get enough sympathy. lol! hope you all are staying warm and cozy.
JANA - you must be about ready for the baby shower. Is it going to be at your house?
CHICKIE - Do you make your own tamales? I've only had ones from a can and I'm sure they can't be too good compared to the real thing. I used to use a recipe for my stir-fry but last few years I'm just heavy-handed with lemon pepper with a dash of soy sauce. DH never noticed I changed my methods.
BECCA - you made me think of creamed potatoes. I haven't had those in years! Mom always made them with peas. YUM! I need to put that on our menu soon! In our "secret passage", it's only 36" tall in half of it, so I keep old rugs in there for my knees. Fortunately, that's where the Christmas decorations are so I only need to be in there 2x/yr - to take them out and to put them back.
IRISH - you keep visualizing a warm and sunny SW PA and just maybe it will happen! some people swear by the power of visualization, you know . . . Oh, don't tell Bill you made lasagna. It's his absolute favorite dish in the whole wide world! He'll want me to make it and I'm far too lazy for that!
TINA - I think we all remember the photos of Scottie's first night with us at age 7 weeks. Bill slept in his playpen with him! But within a few nights, all was good and Scottie found his true bed - right between us! lol!
JO - 1-1/2# of hamburger is a lot of meat for two people! I freeze mine in 1/2# packages after a costco run and I flatten them for quick thawing. I use hamburger for stew. And wouldn't stew be a great dish for a wet, chilly day . . . but sloppy joe's is something tasty and different!
Well, tonite was going to be pork chops, baked sweet potatoes, and broccoli. But now I've kind of talked myself into stew. I could put it into the crockpot and let it smell up the house all day . . . So unless DH objects - stew it is! Hamburger stew. And an elderly lady friend told me once to use a bottle of beer so that's what I'll do. I might even pour a bit into the stew!
What's YOUR favorite secret ingredient?

Good morning! I've never tried making tamales... just tamale pie, and it's so not the same. Some day I might try them--need corn husks. I wonder if I could use parchment like the ones in a can. They are o.k., and I like them, but they don't compare to "real". There is a Mexican grocery store over in Pittsburg, and I stopped there one day and got a tamale for lunch. They sell them by the dozen, and next time I go over, I'll take a cooler and bring back a sack or two.
The stir fry last night was real good... kind of spicy, but not too much. DH even had seconds. I think the recipe is a keeper... super easy! More sewing time!
I like your bottle of beer in the stew... will file it for the next time!
Enjoy!

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Thurs, Feb 5th
Good afternoon from a very sunny BUT very cold, SW. Pa....And I will keep thinking and visualizing those warm, summery days as I sit here with the furnace turned up and me shivering.....Kathy texted me yesterday and said, Reno would be in the low 70s and always has sun....She keeps talking like that, she might find a moving van sitting in her driveway...Wouldn't that just surprise the heck out of her, lol.....
Mary, I like the idea of using the beer but I think Jim might not want me, as he would say, "wasting good beer"...Remember when you were supposed to rinse your hair in beer, WELL, that was a big NO NO.....I talked to DS#1 in N. Carolina and he was making stew today but I'm sure doesn't know about the beer....He brews his own, so that stew would really be good.....
So Bill likes lasagna??Well, I have enough left over to feed an army...You would think I still had all the kids at home with the pan I made yesterday...So we will have left overs and then more left overs....Tell Bill to come on over, there's plenty...I can even give him some to take home.....
Jim has gone to help with elderly bingo and they might try to feed him....If not, he'll either get "you know what" or a bag of popcorn, lol.......
Happy eating................
I keep forgetting to ask....Has anyone heard from Lady Carol...I've been thinking of her and praying she's OK....

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Thurs, Feb 5th
Irish, I did get a PM from Lady Carol about 4 weeks ago. She said Sir was sick with apparently more than just 'man-flu' and it was taking all her energies to care for him and to help the others in her family who were sick. She was making meals for her DD, who was, in turn, caring for HER sick DD. I think her name is "Willow". I think I put something in Supper Club about that, but it was about a month ago now. I saw she put something quilty on FB this week, so I felt that was a good sign and hoped it meant she'd be back with us soon. Isn't her sense of humor delightful?? I miss her.
I bet Kathy would LOVE to see a moving van in her driveway! You only have to convince one other person . . . Reno/Tahoe area are beautiful! And it would be near the "Ponderosa" . . . ;o]

Well, dinner is over...lol! Sloppy Joe leftovers...and there is still more left! You are so right, Mary...1 1/2 lbs. of meat was too much!
Made some chocolate chip cookies today..so that and some vanilla ice cream will be "afters"...I miss Carol, too!
Lasagna...yummmmmm. Earl doesn't like it much though, so I don't make it anymore.
