patriotic quilt block swap
not sure if i can post this on here or not. i found this site on facebook. any one interested in this group:
PATRIOTIC QUILT BLOCK SWAP:Our group is designed for those who love to quilt and are especially interested in Patriotic Quilts. We will hold monthly block swaps in order to help us with our quilting. Check the Files for a listing of all open swaps. It is our goal to provide warmth and love by creating quilts for our active duty and veterans who have served our country. When each swap is complete, it is your choice as to what to do with your gorgeous quilt --use them for ourselves or donate them to deserving Veterans or active duty soldiers

Marcia, Not sure I would "donate" to this place until you really check it out. Could be anyone trying to get some free blocks and then later sell them. All the Veterans quilt places would never let you keep them for yourself. It all goes to the Veterans.
These days we just need to be cautious with whom we do business. Thanks for the msg tho. Anything for the Veterans is good but not if the "bad guys" are trying to gain from the use of Patriotic.
Take care. Hope you are feeling better. God bless, Hugs, Shirley Mae

Re: patriotic quilt block swap
Marcia, like you and Shirley Mae I am always willing to help our Vets as much as I can...I have helped through Quilts of Valor and over the years have come to the conclusion...that for me...keeping donations within my community where I can visible SEE they are being used for a good cause or are appreciated makes me feel like I am actually doing something that is making a difference...I make an acceptation wit St. Judes Children's Hospital and with people I have come to know that ask for donations for comfort quilts...sadly I have seen so many burned by those who do not have a need and exploit other's good heart...saying all this it appears like your group is up front with their intentions and that is good..that makes me feel better..
...and I am glad you are enjoying it and that you are feeling better to sew. I guess if I was making a patriotic quilt to donate I would likely, at this point, know many families that I would personally be able to donate it to...sorry I rambled on...it kinda got me to thinking...Sonya.

Re: patriotic quilt block swap
sonya, thats the good thing about this site. you swap and get a great selection of blocks and then you can donate your finished quilt to whatever group you want. my son-in-law is active army stationed at ft bragg nc and im using my blocks to send to daughter for giving away. it becomes more personal this way. QOV is great...ive worked on some group projects for them...but i found i like this. marcia

Re: patriotic quilt block swap
Marcia...that's a great idea sending to daughter ..
..as far as your site if it gets people motivated and a soldier gets a cotton hug made with love...that's a great thing...both my husband and I are vets of the USAF..one of my DDIL is a 5 year army vet with 3 tours in Iraq and I have a dear nephew serving in the army now.. Along with many cousins and other relatives...
..I have so many family active duty and vets I do exactly what you are doing..when I have a donation..it goes to them to distribute..or I choose through direct knowledge of local need..
Same with nursing homes..which has been my first love of volunteering....Sonya
