SUPPER CLUB - Fri, Dec 19th
Good morning!
We have wind, rain, and even a bit of thunder this morning. I need a reminder on just why we came south for the winter to live in this tin box when we could have stayed home in our 2200 sq foot hour with two cozy wood stoves and two sewing rooms. . .
The furry drama is dying down, but Foxy is still wary. Scottie, howver has commenced playing. He's not getting the meaning of those warning growls from his new little brother. lol!
IRISH - loved your Persian story/groomer story. Makes me think I wasn't nuts to pin this all on the 'groom'!
JANA - glad your voice is coming back! So, I've never had matzo balls. What are they made of? maybe I'll add them to my 'repertoire'.
CHICKIE - I love that you give big cookies to everyone for their bd. You are always so inventive!! And you know I'm right there with you on the meat thing. I'm not vegetarian - but I'd rather eat veggies any day than any meat.
BECCA - that's a lot of baking that you have planned for today! But you have a big family to eat it. When I bake, we eat it all!
tonite - no restaurants. Kind of a relief, actually, as we've eaten out 3 times this week. Normally, we don't eat out 3 times in a whole season! I'm going to make lentil soup. I thought I had dried peas, but they morphed into lentils somehow. I have onions, carrots, celery, garlic, and ham to add in. it can simmer in the crockpot all day while I work on Poor Jane. She's finally out from under the couch and ready to rock and roll!
What's rockin' your kitchen tonite?

Irish--Pittsburgh lost it's G when it crossed the Mississippi River. The one in Missouri is spelled like Kansas--Pittsburg. I'd love to get to your city! One thing in common is football--it reigns supreme in Pittsburg, KS--the highschool, Catholic high school, university and several of the area towns are all powerhouses.
The chicken last night was delicious. I had livers and added lots of fresh veggies with mine. There will be more tonight.
Mary--I really like lentils. I have them in all colors when I go to the health food store on my trips to Joplin. Enjoy! My order of livers lasts several meals. I just don't do meat well. I guess with my anemia I'm really liking livers... just not a lot of them. I'll go with the veggies--fresh, frozen, raw, canned, dried...
Had a fun day yesterday. DGS got out of school (finals) early, so I got to spend some time with him. DGD was at an after school party for student council (an ugly Christmas sweater party), and I missed getting to see her before I had to hit the road for home. DGS loved his cookie. Funny, they like them so much better than cake. If there's a party, everyone dives in and grabs pieces--usually broken off, sometimes with a pizza cutter. I like making them better than cakes--don't have to be as careful. DGS likes more frosting, so his didn't have much cookie showing through.
The groomer took Scottie's familiar scent away and an interloper showed up when he returned. Hopefully with all his play--maybe a roll in the mud--he is become his familiar self again for Foxy.
Irish--I can see your Persian swaggering around in his finery.
Becca--I do have a sweet tooth... not all veggies. I'll be over later when you have lots of goodies!
Jana--I've never had matzo ball soup, but I swear by chicken soup. I'd like to try the matzo ball soup sometime.

Good morning,
Matzo balls are Jewish dumplings. They are made with matzo meal, matzo meal is finely ground matzo crackers. Matzo balls are made with oil, eggs and matzo meal. I cheat and buy a box and mix it up here. You shape the balls, about 1 inch in size and cook them in the chicken soup - broth for 20 minutes, they become tender and expand to about a 3 inch ball. Light and fluffy. I love them. The box mix tends to be a tad salty.
Dinner changed last night, some gorgeous steaks jumped in the basket at Costco along with the prime ribs - they were huge, so I split them in half for dinner. Tonight will be the white banned food with a pilaf.
Enjoy,
Jana
Oh yes, we had a Pittsburg in Ca, too, we would go out there to get chicken as well.

Good morning from cold, slight dusting of that white stuff, SW. Pa....
Mary, boy, you really had a "bunch" of weather all in one, didn't you? Just think how much you're going to appreciate your home when you get back...But, also, enjoy all your time in Texas, weather or not.....
Becca, Don't hide the goodies, I'm on my way....Not sure if I'm going to be doing much baking..I did have a call from Cari, DGD, asking what kind of cookies I'd like her to bake...An offer too hard to refuse.....
For our dinner, I'm thinking something in the oven and I think it might be that "mac n cheese/noodle" casserole....One of Jim's favorites and it will warm up the kitchen......
Happy eating.................

Hey everybody, We are finally getting a good soaking rain. We needed it. If we had not gotten it, there would have been no fireworks to welcome Ol' Saint Nick. The Sheriff's Dept. and Smokey Bear frown on people setting the woods on fire!!
The boys finish exams today and they are off until Jan. 5th. I'm not sure what's for supper tonight because the guys are leaving for a weekend duck and goose hunt. Poor, poor me! Looks like me and Baby Lock will get close. I hope everyone stays warm and dry, Abita
