applique hockey player
Iam making the Center Ice quilt I have finished the quilt 3 mos ago but am having a hard time with the hockey player. I was wondering if anyone has made this quilt & if you can give me some tips on the applique. Did you needle turn the figure or machine applique? Did you attach each piece one at a time to the quilt or did you do the applique by itself & then attach it to the quilt? I so want to finish it but can't figure out how to do the player. Thanks for your help.

I don't know if I'll be much help....I made that "quilt from H*** a few years ago and actually threw the pattern away, never to be made again.....
But, if I remember, I did attach each piece, 1 at a time and I did the needle turn....I had backed each piece with wonder-under or something like it....I did post a picture on photos but it's been probably 4 years and I don't know if it would still be there......
Good luck......

Hi Dabbey, I have not done this pattern. But.....my sister helped with a very detailed huge quilt in New Mex a few yrs ago. Her group was working on a roadrunner, feather by feather, etc.
They did it as an all one pc applique first and then it was sewn onto the actual quilt. I am not sure what they used for backing while they constructed the roadrunner bird. But I saw the quilt later at a quilt show and it was awesome with so much detailing done by various quilt grps doing diff parts of the quilt. Each yr they raffled one like that off and it always depicted something about New Mex.
Good luck. Sounds like a very involved process but just take it one pc at a time and you can do it. Don't the instructions give you any helpful hints? Not all patterns are created equally.
God bless you as you quilt. would love to see a pic of it when you finishe. And welcome. I don't recognize your name but not on here all the time to read. Hugs, Shirley Mae

If you use the product called " soft fuse " and cut your pieces out with it on the back, you can sew it by machine or by hand easily. I haven't made the pattern you are talking about, but have made many other patterns using this type of fusible. I usually iron the whole thing in place first, then do my sewing, by machine or by hand. I have tried many, many other fusibles, but none work as well or as easily as soft fuse.

Thank you for your replies. I had tried working on the applique for a month & got so frustrated that I had to put it aside. After I finish the quilt I am working on I'll pick it up again. I know how to applique, but never did a person. I just don't know how to begin.
Thank you so much for your help.
