******************************************************************
Welcome Lotto Pals - Yes I do know that Thanksgiving comes before Christmas but I just have to get ready!!! What better way than to enjoy it with some beautiful Poinsettia Flower's which is also known as the Winter Rose. They don't come in as many colors as roses (at least not naturally). ****LIST: Red of course, but also medium yellow's, pink's, peaches and now purples, blues and oranges??
This is my traditional block.
Image

For each 6.5" block you will need the following.
* White TOT/Print (2) 2.5" x 4.5" strips
* Red TOT/Print (1) 2.5" x 4.5" strip
* Your choice of Color (1) 2.5" x 4.5" strip
* Green TOT/Print (2) 2.5" x 4.5" strips
Make a sample to practice your seam allowance and your angles.
You will need (4) 6.5"+ blocks will make up the 12.5"+ block.
Image
By using the picture as a guide figure out which fabric should be on top to get the correct direction your angle should go in each strip. After you have your angle going the right way, follow the next few pictures (open and draw a line with a very thin pencil, then sew on the line). Press to the dark. Your strip should now measure 2.5" wide by 6.5" long. This is why practice is advised.

*Colors: Medium yellow's, pink's, peaches and now purples, blues and oranges plus the traditional Red for 1 strip. Please check for bleeding in all colors??
* Good Contrasting Christmas Fabrics
* ABSOLUTELY NO SOLIDS PLEASE
* Please WASH your fabrics to check for bleeding.
*** Before sewing ALL 4 blocks together: MEASURE to make sure it is 6.5+". Ironed your seams open at this point. TRIM ONLY across the top (Your Color/white strip on left side) and then down the left side. The center strip will now measure 2"; outsides strips 2.25" to finish at 6.5+"sq. This is where you make any corrections that need to be made. You will get extra tickets!
* Watch your points when you sew them into a 12.5"+ block. When you iron your block please make the 4-patch in the center of the back. Remember this is a learning place. Take your time. Do Not Rush but above ALL HAVE FUN!!! Play with your fabrics and Pin the way I did in my first sample.
* DO NOT Square up your 12.5" blocks
* PLEASE "Name Tag" each block in the Front Left Corner and Place ALL blocks in ONE LARGE BAGGIE. Mailing labels are great for this :)
* Please SEND $2-3 to help with shipping to the winners
* Sign-ups simply is a show of interest. Emergencies do get in the way sometimes. COMMUNICATION is the Key, Please.
MERRY CHRISTMAS STITCHIN'!!!

WAYS to RECEIVE your WINNING tickets ...

Okay I'll bite

If I am looking at this right... it's 2.5" strips, sewn at angles at about the 1/2 mark of a 2.5 x 4.5"?

I printed out the picture and will practice first!

Yes Mary - WOOHOO!!!
I added another Picture to help :) :)

After you fold and look to be sure the angle is going the right way you make your crease or draw a line and stitch on the line. Depending on the thread I chose I tend to stitch a bit to the right side of the line to be sure ... this is why practice is advised :)

Giving yourself enough room for a seam allowance you can also sew another seam next to the first one so that after you cut you will start collecting HST's :) :);

ok sort of a question, i take it white should always be in the middle of the clolours of the block, as a back drop for the flower in the middle? and the corners should always be a repeat of the middle flower?
I'm thinking this, or the blocks just won't work visually.

Hi Jacquie - Yes your white TOT or Print (like mine) should always be in the middle. Thanks for your question. After pondering it for some moments I think I need to make a slight change...

The CENTER color of your block can be ANY COLOR Poinsettia from the list. The outside will be RED for ALL. I think this will give us a better symmetry to the quilt when you go to put it together.

Ok, I am somewhat confused as to what we do with the fold? Is this actually going to be where the seam is or are we sewing the fold down?

Valerie - That is the seam line. The middle picture is my sample 6.5" block to remind me which way to fold the strips. Then I open it up, draw the line and sew. The last picture shows you how to sew it.

The Inside Red/White Strip = Your choice of Color/White.
The Green/White Strip = Stays Green/White
The Outside Red/Green Strip = Stays Red/Green.

Flo - I am sew sorry you have to go shopping ... NOT!!!! LOL - ENJOY!!

I am sorry this seems confusing but after you cut your 2.5" x 4.5" strips for your colors (1 red and 1 your choice for the center), line them up with the angle going the right way, draw your sewing line and sew I promise it will get easier and easier.

DON'T GIVE UP TO SOON :) :)
