SUPPER CLUB - Wed, Sept 24th

Post by purrfect-lady » Wed Sep 24, 2014 4:29 am

Wow, are we wet!!! It's been pouring since yesterday evening. No walk for Scottie and me this morning! We're too wimpy!

We had a lot of folks at the table yesterday! The food must have been good! If I get a chance while south this winter, I'll give okra a try. I like most veggies.

JO - I've never thought of putting meatloaf slices on the grill. Was it already cooked and you were just warming it up?

IRISH - we put about 10,000 miles on our rig each year. We bought it new at the end of 2001 and it now has about 115,000 miles on it. That's miles rolling the trailer, not miles where it's parked and we're running about in the pick-up. I hear fuel is going down, but not so much in WA state. Diesel is still over $4/gal. Gas is anywhere from $3.79 to $4.05/gal. We have one of the highest gas taxes in the country and there is talk of raising it another dime/gal. Guess how I'll be voting on that!

JANA - I'd forgotten about Blues Clues! I think I read a few yeas ago where the original guy (Steve?) quit because he wanted to do something more adult and ended up in jail for something. I thought that ended the show.

LYN - no, we wont' make the show in Houston. Wish we could, but just can't get there in time. And I have no thoughts on a Bailey Quilting System that I saw you asked about in the Sew-in. Sorry.

TINA - I HATED brussels sprouts until just very recently. Last night I seasoned them liberally with lemon pepper, put them in a little baking dish with a little water, covered them with foil, and popped them into the oven with my chops and potato dish. They were purrfect. But I don't like LOTS of them. Just about 5 at a time. When DD#1 was about 1 yr old, I put one on the tray of her high chair. She eyed it with suspicion, picked it up, flung it across the room, and hollered "NO!". She didnt' even taste it! lol! I doubt she's been that close to a sprout since!

CHICKIE - glad you got the bag done. I made a hobo bag once for Autumn. Somehow I got the handles turned around on one side. What a mess!

I think tonite calls for something hearty. I was thinking of brats and kraut. I could put them into the crockpot . . . I like to add a bit of diced potato and carrots to my kraut to cut the tartness. Also, some celery seed and a bit of white wine if I can let it simmer for a while. I even found brat buns in the freezer yesterday. I'm not sure of my veggie - I have a selection of fresh in the fridge - broccoli, sprouts, carrots, salad. I'll let DH make that call. He thinks I'm giving him The Power and then he's good almost all day long! lol!

What's YOUR plan?

Mary - My mistake, I overlooked your leaving date, I was busy reading your camping dates.

Nice day in the Rocky's. You and Scottie could have a nice walk here.

Well, I know my veggie, but not my meat. I didn't get the roasted zucchini made yesterday, so we'll have it. Had to go with a quicker chicken recipe a few days back, so maybe I will grill some chicken breast. No afters planned, they only add to the scale groaning when I step on it.

Good morning,

Dinner last night got punted to the end zone - we went out and had Mexican. Mine was so spicy, I tears running down my face, so there is leftovers for Michael's lunch. Their flan - oh my, was heaven in a bite!

Dinner will be what I find in the freezer this afternoon - I have chicken, turkey and soup fixins - depends on my mood! LOL

Daniel is heading back to the King Fire line today. The fire command called back his strike team. Bracing for a weather change and adding personnel.

Enjoy,
Jana

Tonight will be the last of the chicken soup :-)
Mary, I might try them again some day but I'd have to get past the smell, I don't like the way they smell LOL but you know my Dad forced me to eat canned spinach when I was a kid and I about gagged, I still don't like the canned but love raw and wilted :-) are sprouts something that can be eaten raw?

Good afternoon from warm, sunny, purrrfect, SW. Pa....It is a gorgeous day, here in the east.....
Mary, come on over, great day for walking....And as you can see (or know), I'm sitting on my butt...Hopefully, I can get Jim out of his chair and we'll do some digging in the yard....
I'm sure I'd like sprouts but someone in this house might turn up his nose, although, he's pretty good about eating "foreign" food that is put in front of him.....
Like I said, you sure don't let any grass grow under your wheels...That's terrible about your gas prices...On Sunday, I noticed it was $3.39 and it's probably lower today...

Yesterday's dinner, chicken ala king, was really good so I'm sure today's will be even better....Today, I might even bake something...Jim has been making do with graham crackers.....

Happy eating...............

Good Evening All...back again....but not sure for how long....I have either got a temperamental computer or the BT boys are playing games at the junction box.....so am just hoping this post gets through.....

THOUGHT FOR THE REST OF THE WEEK:-

FAMILIES ARE LIKE CHOCOLATE.....SWEET......WITH SOME NUTS.....

the friends I met last week in Abergavenny(5) who were going to increase to 9 eventually morphed into 14......so they decided to go sightseeing instead of visiting here....we were invited....but we decided to go out for breakfast....with great relief let me tell you......all I could think about was....where will I put them all....
and just now had a phone call from some other friends(4)......they want to visit Hereford Cathedral as they are caravanning in the area....and want to call in on us first......so it will be Toasted Tea-cakes and Cappacino"s on the table for elevenses here in the morning.......
wont do anymore just in case the computer or the BT boys are having fun.....Shepherds Pie and Ice Cream Cornets for afters.....
