Re: Friday February 21 2014
Happy Weekend EVE!!!
Winter has returned. We have even seen our daily dose of snowflakes. I was so afraid that we wouldn't seen any more snow. (Can you hear the sarcasm dripping from my keyboard?) We survived the very windy thunderstorms last night. Wind gusts were up to 60 miles per hour. Sure made the house shake! At least, we had several days of tempting spring weather.
LOIS - I sure understand what you mean about trying to find the right fabric. All of that fabric and nothing seems to strike your fancy. Isn't that a shame? As for 40 hours a week for 4 weeks, yes it is going to cut into your playtime but think of the cask you'll have for more fabric!!
SUZETTE - I didn't realize you both were battling health issues. Prayers for you both!! I have also resorted to sorting through my stash, and believe I have tons, to find fabric for projects. I even found some that I didn't know I had!! And, I inherited my sister's stash. I haven't brought much of it home yet. DH will have a fit because we are stuffed to the roof now! Enjoy your day out with your friend. My best friend is doing taxes right now so no day out for us until after April.
LEAH - Our winter returned with a vengeance, just like your did. Yesterday we were in the 50's (10 C) - today 35 (2) with a wind chill of 25 (-4). It sure feels cold out there today. We have a funeral for the father of a good friend. There are 2 very cold places on the planet for standing outside - playgrounds and cemeteries!
JULES - I never thought of calling my sewing room a studio. I guess that would be the best word for it since you are creating works of art while in there! Relax and enjoy your peace.
VICKY - Enjoy your warm weather today because you will be getting the crap that moved through here. I have seen ice dams break on TV but never in person. They would be exciting to watch!
MARYZ - Congratulations to Albert on the cancer report!! Prayers are going for Jim for his Parkinson's', which on its own is a tough disease. Having pneumonia on top of it would be awful! The tip on using the pen is a neat idea. I will have to keep that in mind! Dear Jane may need to have a oxygen and sunshine but be careful - that stuff can make it go crazy!
JUDI - Your Ken sounds like my Ken. Tell him Mother Nature will wash your camper. Yes, I know about the road grime and it is nasty. My Ken keeps wanting to wash the truck but with our nasty roads, it would be a waste of time and money.
Just had some excitement here. SH, Ken, is on Coumadin and has very thin skin. He hit his hand on the rounded corner of a plastic lock and ripped his hand open. So, Doctor Mom to the rescue! At least, it didn't look like crime scene. We have that issue with bleeding before too. Good thing I have a strong will and can take all of that type of stuff.
Every one have a day. Enjoy life and relax as needed.

CHRISS - I missed you posting. Yes, we too are glad he only lives 15 miles away. He is coming over tomorrow for the day while Mom cleans to house. So, spoiling time is coming!!
The pharmacy finally filled the scripts. Escripts from doctor's offices is a great idea by cyber space is a controlling witch so she keeps them until she is ready to let them go.
Hopefully our day goes better. Diana

Lois - I know you don't need a wide backing for the baby quilt but if you ever do need a wide backing try looking at "Thousands of Bolts and Only One Nut". They have the wide backing fabrics and some are only $8 per yard. I'm sorry you found nothing at JoAnn's so it would be convenient for you.
Suz - sounds like you are having a full day and you might not get around to sewing until later this evening. I feel the fabric shopping urge all the time and when I go, I buy and I don't need to with my shelves at home full. I have OCD - what can I say.
Scrap - I'll be praying you find that electrician - LOL LOL.
Jules - I bet your birdhouses are just perfect as is all your work. I do love your tat, too. LOL Did you get that? Tat, too.
Vicky - what do you mean "the river may break"? Does that mean go over it's banks? Oh, gosh, I hope you don't flood. I'm sure Emily will do fine at her recital. She sure has a lot of those.
Maryz - that IS good news about your brothers, especially Al. I just love the Frixion pens. That's what I use for my applique as well as marking other stuff. Say hello to Jane for me. I think you and she will have a lot of fun.
Judi - what do you do with your starfish and shells? Do you have a display case at home? Wise to pick up the outdoor rug. I hate it when we have to put away stuff when it's wet.
Chriss - my totes are way more expensive to make than 'free' - LOL. Mine are thick, quilted, and have lots of inside pockets and are about 16" X 20". I do give them away as gifts. This one I think I'll give to my youngest DD She won the Christmas tote that I held a drawing for and I noticed that she was still carrying it around a month after Christmas was over. That's why I'm making this one. Are you saying mother nature is moody?? LOL She's sure moody down here!
Diana - I heard on the news about all that wind and also some twisters. Spring must be right around the corner. I inherited part of a lady's stash, too, and I need to use it. Our friend was clearing out her deceased sister's house and called us to see if we wanted to go thru a couple of boxes and keep some of it. (Did she really have to ask?) We nearly fell over when she pulled up with a pickup truck. The back was full of large tote boxes and there was boxes stacked in the back seat, too. It took Vicki (my BFF), Sue and me hours to go thru all that fabric. She had many bolts, too. We still can't get over how much fabric we all got. And that was only 1/3 of the fabric that lady had.....and it's all quilt shop quality fabric. Thousands and thousands of dollars worth. It blows my mind. Sorry to go on and on here.
Same old same old. Last night I got the fabrics pieced for the outside of the tote. I used a charm pack and added a little of my fabric, too. I cut the squares in half, mixed them up, and sewed the strips back together - I offset them like bricks. Maybe by tomorrow I'll have them sandwiched and ready to quilt. I'll use the embroidery decorative stitches on my sewing machine to do the quilting.
I hope we can all fondle some fabric over the weekend.

Good Morning from Estes Park, CO.
I spent the night in a hotel so I didn't have to come up the canyon from my folks house in Fort Collins. They are working in the canyon and I didn't want to get stopped. The insurance adjustor will be at house at 9:30 this morning. Can't move forward until his report and maybe another asbestos test. Seems there is a concern that there may be cross contamination to the upstairs.
JULES- Nice tattoo!
Prayers for those in need.

Good morning! We are going back to low 60s today with mild winds. This is such a roller coaster of weather, but I guess that’s normal for February. I have no idea what my day will bring… sewing, I hope! I may go work with DH if it is nice. If the sun is shining, it feels much warmer to me.
Chriss—the rentals do take up time. For some reason, they go along fine, then they all have problems at once.
Vicky—hope you are now going to be feeling much better! Best wishes to Em; she will be awesome! How often does she give recitals?
Lois—I don’t get to a JoAnn’s very often, but I was shocked at the prices and quality (high and low—in that order). I am not missing anything by not being close to a store. I used a coupon and got some batting.
Suzette—best wishes to you and your DH today!
Scrap—Fabric prices are just creeping up everywhere. Hope you don’t flood!
Jules—I know your birdhouse blocks will be exquisite! They always are. I think Charley and Ross like you, too!
MaryZ—great news for Albert! Hope Jim gets better, too. Pneumonia this year has been brutal. Thanks for the tip on the Frixion pen—I need to get some. I pin notes or pins only… 1 pin=row 1 and stack left on top to right; 2 pins=row 2, etc… How is your wine stock? Crazy DJ wants to know…
Judy—ENJOY!!!
Diana—my truck hasn’t been washed since DH and I got married eight years ago. It is a total waste living on a dirt road. The poor thing used to get washed every week when I lived in town. So glad the accident wasn’t as bad as it could have been. I can take care of bleeding and patching up of all kinds and could be an ER person, but I’m not sure I could be a surgical assistant. Does that make sense? That wind was crazy, wasn’t it! I thought we were going to leave Kansas and end up in Illinois! Enjoy your spoiling time!
Cindy—your tote sounds really pretty! I like the idea of the offset bricks. (Must remember that one with charm packs…) You are a good mom!
Lyn—HUGS and best wishes to you today!!! I hope you find some good news in the mess.
I’ve got to get myself in gear… Have a great day, All!

Re: Friday February 21 2014
Good Morning everyone,
Bright blue skies here today. I'm surprised the clouds aren't racing by with the winds as strong as they are.
Chickie, I will keep an eye out for you just in case you blow this way.
This wind is something. We have a lot of trees around and in our yards. Last night the picture window in my sewing room was moving. That was odd to observe. I wondered about moving the parrot just to be safe.
Housework and sewing. Someone is coming by to borrow our trailer for the weekend. Don't know them but our youngest son does. We couldn't get the trailer out 2 weeks ago to go for the cow. It slid over into the elevator and got stuck worse. Now it has to come out? besides that the tack room is stuffed from my mom's house from a year ago. Where is that supposed to go? This is not my problem and if it becomes my problem, you can bet someones (plural) will have problems.
We have a date to get the taxes done. March 4. More work needed there.
I am off to get busy. Much to do and spring is close and then I will want to be outside watching all the happy robins hopping around. Not desperate yet, just trying to stay focused on finishing things. Still havent found that piece of blue with the pink pigs..I just had it a couple of weeks ago if that long. Like many of you I have found fabric I forgot about. This year is the year to make more quilts. I have 2 tops done, one waiting for borders, one for merriman house nearly completed and sashing strips started on the UGRR quilt. Not a bad start for the new year. LOL
Sandy, sewing up a storm-oh, wait maybe I shouldn't be doing that-sewing up stash-lots of stash.

Good Cloudy Rainy Morning....
Looks like it's shaping up to be a perfect sewing day....cleanish house, had all long phone calls yesterday & leftovers in the frig.
I have to finish up my 3ed pair of sweater arms. I have a knitting class tomorrow & I want to find out how to finish the fronts.
Lois....sorry you'll miss your Fri off. By the time 4 weeks go by it will seem like a vacation. The price of fabric now makes me think twice sometimes. I passed over some green & red last month...$13. I did find plenty at a better price.
Suzette.....may your appointments go smoothly & have a good lunch..
Lea.....yuck! Your prices are high. Makes $6 look good. I think Jules has high prices too. Sounds like a good meeting coming up.
Jules....a day in you studio sounds like good therapy for today. How were your blocks? Good? (((((HUGS)))))
Vicky....the weather gives us one challenge after the other. MY small flat back yard fills with water from the hill. I hope the river doesn't break.
Maryz....happy to hear good reports on your brothers. Will keep up the prayers. That's a good tip...send it in the a quilt magazine. Some give you $. I've never heard of that pen. Hoping Jane enjoys the sun & air.
Judi....I'm so happy you are having a good time & have 'good' things to look forward too.
Chriss.....you made me LOL....menopause!! Yes, it would be wonderful is you could get a new machine because it cost too much to fix! Here's hoping.
Diana....We're expecting thunderstorms this afternoon. Might be the ones that passed over you. Bad winds. A real good thing you were home to help him or it may have looked like a crime scene.
Love & Prayers for all...........Kathy
I have a pattern for a child's sleeping bag. It's just 2 pages long. It requires 3 yds if fabric. I'd be happy to send it to the 1st person that PM's me..

Good morning from warm, wonderful, Florida....It is indeed warm and purrrrfect....I've been here since Sunday and the weather so far has been great, lots of sun..Being able to sleep with the windows open, walk barefoot outside and be in the pool, this is still Feb., isn't it?
We are being very lazy, eating out a lot, visiting and reading..Yesterday when I talked to Jim, he did say another storm was headed their way..Hopefully by the time I get back, winter will be long gone......
My friend in not a cat person but it seems, if there is a stray in the area, it comes to her house..Well, she's had this pretty little female for about 2 weeks and you know me and cats....If I'm outside sitting, this cat is on my lap...She was so determined not to feed it but, guess who bought a couple of cans of food and asked me if I'd feed the baby...It's a good thing I didn't bring my car, I'm afraid this fur baby would be going home with me....
I have tried to read all the posts but with this computer you never know when it's going to "quit"...So, I'm not going to attempt to gab to everyone....
Just know, I am thinking of you all, saying lots of prayers for those in need.....
You all have a great day......

Yes, heard weather was off Q, in some southern states, gal darn.. No body thought of feeding that groundhog, another 2weeks. Winter festival is happening here, violin, tap dancing music back in the day of settlers. Used to go every year for husky races. Father/I were like glue was our yearly event. Only, time when I see my father return to his world. Young he adopted a stray husky he feed him, husky stayed and they became best of friends. My father was last of children, at 19 yrs. he was taking care of his ailing parents. Then, he lost them young.. So dog was his comfort. Just like my cat is for me..

Good morning!
It is bright and beautiful here - the grass is even starting to turn green! I have some of bulbs that are popping up as well. The only problem is that it is cold out there! Being a Cali girl - you see bright sunshine and think that it is warm outside - NOT!!!! Oh well, not long and it will be!
Got all my reds set with Retayne last night - pressing them now - and just ran out of Best Press - not my day! A run out to the LQS is in order. Went last night, and came out with no fabric - the LQS didn't have any red reds - more orange than red - not often that I come out without fabric! LOL
It will be quiet around here - kids are at work and tuckered out - Ethan went to the Zoo yesterday and his favorite animal was all the way at the very back of the Zoo - the Giraffes - no camels - you can ask him what the camel says - his answer - camel spit - then blows raspberries! Keeps Grandma giggling!
Off to sew and order some Best Press for refills - will need to buy one for current use!
Have a great day and do something fun!
Hugs
Jana
