Almost Wednesday the 29th. Close enough!
Hey all- had a few minutes before the start of my shift... thought I would start the thread, (even if it is still the 28th!)I survived my training class, ugh. Woke up thinking about hexies. Have always wanted to try and think I will. But not until I get my Mystery blocks done. I already have enough projects in my head that aren't started/finished. I am hoping for a slow shift, as last night ended a bit on the crazy side and I still have charting to finish. I know I already have two visits... let's hope that's all!
Teresa- looking forward to seeking pics from the quilt show. I have seen a few of the quilts from local friends but always in need of more inspiration. Enjoy that baby!!
karpet- I have those microwave slippers! Someone gave them to me as a gag gift for Christmas! Haven't tried them yet...lol. Your dog picture made me LOL. So cute!
izzy- glad your new teeth are in the making! Hope DD is all better... I haven't had White Castle in ages- all I remember is being in the potty the whole next day after eating them! lol
Irishgram- Glad you are feeling better!
grammiequilts- don't save room for me for the Florida run. I have my own demented step-kitties and there are too many bugs in FL for me!
scrapquilter48- I love the feel of the sun in the winter... definately a new experience for me. I have never purchased a jellyroll but just watched a quilt show on tv that used one. Will have to put it on my wish list!
Quiltmom- HUGS! Losing my dear pupper a few years ago was one of the hardest things... I still tear up when I see a chihuahua that looks like her.
lucies- good luck with your studies. It used to be so easy to learn new things but the older I get, the harder it is for me! I need to get back to working on my BSN but am putting it off... not looking forward ot it.
dforseth- ugh...laundry... my least favorite of the household necessities- I am grateful to have a washer/dryer in this apartment tho- I dislike laundramats even more than laundry!
cindyg- make sure to post pics of your embroidered log cabin blocks! I wanna see!!!
jana- pass on that quilting knowledge! Way to go! I taught all three of my boys when they were young enough to want to know but none of them decided to pursue it. I love to see generations of people quilting together!
farmchick- stay warm on that frozen prairie!
Weeone- tell me about your beading group! I have beads and have done some things- my fave was a project called the Beaded Pendant of Blindness and Insanity...lol.
maryq- old quilts are such treasures. I have pieces of a crazy quilt my great aunt started. I am hoping someday to finish squares of it. It's packed away waiting for me to get motivated.
KATHYSQUILTS- My mom said when I was 4 or 5, the only record I ever wanted to get out of the library was one by Pete Seeger. She would return it and it would come back to our house a few weeks later. I have always liked folk music and acoustic guitar and admired him greatly for his stand on things. His music is woven into many lives.
grammiesquilts- isn't it amazing how many memories a quilt can hold? My children refuse to let go of the quilts my mom made them as children. They are ratty and have been repaired over and over but the memories they hold arejust too precious even for my big grown men!
becca- I can't always keep everyone's posts straight either. I either take notes or open a word document while I am reading along- just so I make sure I comment on the right person..lol.
marilynsgrammy- I think a swap list would be a great idea! My friends and I used to get together once a year and swap our craft crap- we called it the annual swap-a-ganza! Sometimes we would end up with our own stuff back again...lol.
msdeets- dealing with drs and insurance makes me want to scream! Glad things got worked out. My Mom used to go to Lancaster...she loved it there. I have only been to one big show. It was the last International Quilt Festival in Long Beach last year and it happened to be on my birthday- just a week after I moved out here. Mom and I went for the day and it was AMAZING! I didn't know where to turn first!
fabricgirl- hope your grill comes! We have a grill right outside our apartment that the complex keeps up. They supply the propane and it gets cleaned everyday. It's one of the perks of paying a fortune to live here...lol.
mellowmayking- you are a late night sewer? or just a night owl? I used to stay up half the night sewing when my kids were little.
Blessings one and all.... enjoy the day!
Sooz

Re: Almost Wednesday the 29th. Close enough!
Good morning all. Just popping in before I head to bed.
Sooz, yes, I am a night-owl. This is when I do most of my sewing. I would get a lot more done if I didn't have to get up at 0 dark thirty to get ready for work! The best job I ever had was when I worked third shift at a hospital emergency room in San Antonio. No, I am not a nurse...I worked the registration desk--after the patient was seen by the triage nurse I would get them registered into the system, get consent forms and insurance info, etc. I loved that job. Went to work when it was dark and got off work when it was still dark. I've often thought I must be part vampire because I love the night-time so much! LOL
It is strange to see and hear of all the winter weather everyone is having....so far, we have not had anything except for one really cold spell several weeks ago. Of course, now that I have said that, we will probably get a blizzard! I am still wearing my summer shirts to work because it stays so hot in our warehouse.
I hope everyone is staying safe and warm and finding something fun to do.
Hope all you puny ones are starting to feel better.
I am heading off to bed now. That old alarm clock will be singing to me in about five hours.
Hugs and prayers for all in need.

Re: Almost Wednesday the 29th. Close enough!
Good morning Mel, Sooz and those that follow.
Went to bed and woke up to more snow then what they thought. A dusting turned into about 1/2". But, they just said sun by noon. My treatment today is not until 5pm today so everything should be ok by then. The local school systems were not planning on this. They are opening 2 hours late. I have several things planned for today. Get our taxes done, meet a friend for lunch and work in my studio. I have a question for all the great minds here. My brother's girlfriend asked me if I wanted to buy her mother's quilt stash. I told her no because I am running out of space. They want to sell it because they need the money for her mom's care. Any ideas of who to contact. Most of the places I thought of would take it if it was donated. Any ideas?? Have a great day.
Sooz - have a wonderful rest of your shift.
Mel - have a great day.

Oh my goodness!
Those people in Georgia being stranded on the roads cause of the snow. One woman left her job at 1pm and 10 hours later she was still on the road. I also just looked at the webcam for the restored area in Williamsburg, VA. It is so odd to see areas that normally don't get much snow, with snow. If you have a chance google Williamsburg webcams.

Good Morning Ladies,
Today Im off we got about a 1/2 inch of new snow oh well that's life in the north east.
I will be staying in today and working on my Birdhouses yes Im making headway with them.
Yesterday we got our new grill and made Hamburgers they were good I think this is my DH new toy he has already got into the recipe book that came with it so all is good they said that it would smoke with the first time use and it hardly did that well I guess its a winner.
Suzette tell them to advertise as an estate sale they may get some nibbles that way.
Well I Hope Everyone Has A Great Day.
Prayers Go Out To All In Need.

Good Morning Cotton Pals
Well we got about 5 inches of snow on the wonderful Jersey shore.
It should stop soon.
Our son said he will stop by and snow blow the driveway for us.
We did get a robo call at 4:45 this morning there is a 2 hour delayed opening for the kids.
I get the robo calls because of being on the emergency list for our grandkids.
I will finish some laundry this morning and then maybe some cotton therapy.
I am getting a little tired of the snow already. It looks like its tapering off finally.
Have a wonderful day

Re: Almost Wednesday the 29th. Close enough!
I know I've been missing a lot lately.... life(sickness).
Yesterday I got a call from Shannon and she needed help. I ran up there and took her to the dentist and I can not believe it but she had to have a root canal in the same tooth I did, on the same side everything. I stayed with her most of the day. It was nice just having some time together but I wish it was on better circumstances.
Today Tia is coming with the babies! I'm so excited as I missed them last week. Emily went down to visit them on Monday but I wasn't feeling up to it.
Caleb has a phone interview with Wegmans on Thursday. He has been out of work now for about two months. He knows if he is going to work construction he will be out of work in the winter. I tried to get him to go to H&R Block or Jackson Hewitt to do taxes for people but that wasn't for him. I hope he gets the job at Wegmans it will be for a cashier, although he would be a great one to work in the produce section and maybe he could transfer over there.
Darryl is going to hang some cabinets over my big board in the sewing room and put a light in on Saturday
I'm hoping that will help me get it cleaned up in there.
I've been thinking of doing another challenge this year. Remember last years Self Portrait Challenge? What fun..... Well I have something up my sleeve, anybody game?
Looking up and forward!
Vicky
PS Darryl ordered me a new camera so I can post some pictures soon!

Good morning...
Karlene, I think I will pass on the booties...lol... it's a good idea but how long does heated rice stay warm?
Sooz, there are a few doing hexi's here.. in one of the sections on this forum there is a thread started... we did a swap the box of stuff here a couple of times but it faded away..
Mel, I haven't worn sleeves too often this year either.. I used to work nights... I hated it...
Suzette, problem with buying fabric from someone is that you never know if it's good quality... can they list it on e-bay or craigs list? how much do they think it's worth? is there a picture... is it good fabric? maybe they can put an ad in the paper?
Lois, glad you love the grill
Dolores, glad you are on the robo call list.. we aren't that sophisticated, we have to manually call eachother, a phone chain...
Vicky... strange about the mother daughter root canals.. most mon's just take their daughters shopping then to lunch...lol... hope everyone feels better, happy grandkid day.
Not sure where Scrappy Pat is... I left her a message on face book... hope she responds...
do you ever start telling someone something then end up listening to their story rather than being listened to? I notice it happening to me often...
anyway, think I will go get gas and get my lunch ready, you all have a super day,
Chriss

Good Morning all you night owls. I am in bed by 11 everynght and asleep by 1115. I hate staying up later than that....up in the morning at 7-730am. this is how my body clock is set...if I am very tired I will slepp till 8-30. My kids slept all night by the time they were 3 or 4 weeks old. We are a sleppy family...it is 8;30 and Ken is still sleeping. it is 0 out with a WC of -20. don't know how much longer this cold will keep up. but it is hurting to breathe out there. I am dressed for the gym but will see if Ken wants to go..I did the dreadmill yesterday so I am getting the cARDIO but not much bone strenghtening,,,we shall see
I will do a few uglies today AND then back down to Annebelle. I have the hexxie quilt half done...want to finish it and get the binding on before Florida. that is the orders today..
Hope you are all having a great day Prayers for those who need,,,,XXXOOO

Re: Almost Wednesday the 29th. Close enough!
Good Morning,
have I been missing my sew-buddies!
SOOZ - I'm a nurse also (NICU - retired 12 yrs) and always worked nights by choice. I am definitely NOT a nightowl, but just preferred the quiet of the night. I prefer the other end of the night, usually getting up about 5am by choice.
SUZ - how big is your friend's DM's stash? You could put it on Craig's List. Sad that it has to be sold.
LOIS - did you get a Traeger? I remember you were waiting for a special grill.
DELORES - how fun! A sew snow day!
VICKY - good luck to Caleb! glad you are feeling better. So - what is your idea for another challenge? a teaser like that tortures me!!
Still here in the desert. It's beautiful in its own way. There are wild burros here that came up to our doorstep a few nights ago. Very fun, but Scottie kicks up quite a ruckus! Yesterday DH went over the border into Algodones, Mex to get a dental crown. The $1200 he saved paid for half our new clutch. I spent the day thriftshopping with a good friend while her hubby babysat Scottie. Today is Bill's crown seating so Scottie and I'll visit another friend - who's quilter sister is also visiting.
News of my brother isn't good. He's in the hospital in Las Vegas with severe chest congestion, coughing. I talked 1/2 hour with my niece last night. They are doing tests that show unspecified "masses" which could mean fluid, scar tissue, cancer, mesothelioma, Valley Fever, etc. More tests will be done today. Jim says he wants to go home to die. We may turn around and drive back to Vegas if he gets worse. But for now, we're about 6 hours away and he has his DD and her family with him. We wouldn't be needed by them, but I might need to be there for myself. So we're in flux here and could use some prayers from my DB, Jim.
In the meantime DH accidentally got a 3-week job in Austin setting up network gear for a big event that runs Mar 1-16. He is supposed to be there by mid-Feb.
On a good note, I found a wonderful quilt shop across the highway from our friends' winter home. And it is PACKED with batiks! along with a lot of other beautiful fabrics. I ended up spending $60 for fabric I hadn't realized I needed! lol!
hugs to all!
