Teresa: Oh so sorry for Courtney. Sure hope things turn around. Winston-Salem is where my son ended up getting into Wake Forrest for Physical Therapy. His life has turned around for the better and they ended up making Winston-Salem their home.

Suzette: Prayers for your surgery. Don’t have any suggestions for you on the quilting, sorry.

Lois: Oh, dear, please be careful not to over due it!!!

Jules: I love the robin!!! What a neat technique. That will look so cute
on your Christmas Tree.

Yesterday at our sewing group, I started my Christmas Table Runners (the first one of three).
I ran into a little snag. I used project bags and cut all my fabric and labeled each fabric color and
What cuttings went with it. I try to be so organized.
Then following the printed directions to the tea, I came to a place where I have 8 pieces to match up to another fabric that only had 4 pieces. Oh, NO!!
So I went back home and got out all my project bags and compared it all to the cutting directions
I discovered that I cut 4 of the pieces of that fabric but should have had 8. so I got my rotary cutter
out and did a little more cutting. Then I sat down with the pattern and I can’t be
sure yet, until I get a little further along in the assembly, but I might have found a mistake
in the pattern, because I found another place where I ended up with some extra pieces.

What confused me, I think, is that the directions are written for two sizes ( a bed runner with 5 blocks or table runner with three blocks). Once I get the first one assembled, the other two
will go so much quicker.

ThankYou again, Secret Santa for sending this pattern. It was the inspiration I needed to
start me on this project. I needed an idea for Christmas Gifts. You just don’t know how
much I appreciate the gift you gave to me. :)

Sending you all Hugs for today.

Velda

Teresa - I'm not quite sure what all is going on in your life but you are clearly upset. Prayers sent up right away.

Jules - you did a great job on your little birdie. It will look cute on your Christmas tree.

Suz - I don't know about putting all the quilts on that one backing all at the same time. Seems like you've been facing that surgery for a year so I'm glad tomorrow's the day.

Lois - sorry your legs hurt so badly last night. Maybe you shouldn't be doing so much yet.

Vicky - you said you should get in there and work on the eagle - well shoulda coulda woulda....sometimes we just aren't in the mood, right?

Becca - it really is no fun to get tires on the car....they are crazy expensive these days. I don't forget about the fabric because it's all out on the book shelves so I can see it all; it's the patterns I forget about. I just don't get to spend enough time in my sewing hole.

Judi - so glad you had a good dinner with your old co-workers. I have the same problem with my kids not giving me a Christmas list for themselves or my grandkids.

Chriss - my signature dish....are you kidding me? Yes, I will put your name in the drawing for the tote but you have to be present to win. Come on over.

Kathy - I'm glad you figured out your table topopers. I found a pattern for one that is a "Diamond Log Cabin" and it is so pretty. I need a table topper but I sure don't have the time to figure that one out and get it made.

Last night my dinner took a little longer than usual so I got to my sewing hole late. I did, however, get all the fusible fleece fused to the pieces and I've started quilting them. I'm making it hard on myself by doing an outline stitch around each boot/set of boots on the fabric instead of just doing straight lines. Oh, well, maybe I'll finish the quilting part tonight before "Gray's Anatomy" comes on. Going after work to get my hairs cut so that will throw me a little late. Darn!

I hope we can all fondle fabric today.

Velda - best of luck figuring out your pattern. Be sure and write notes on it so you will remember what you did the next time.

Good morning, good morning,
It it not quite as chilly this morning as the previous two mornings have been, but I have pulled out my lined jeans and footie pajamas. I did get the binding attached on the one quilt and started the quilting on the second. If I can finish quilting that one tonight, and maybe get the binding on that one, I may actually have time tomorrow to do my 'homework' from the paper-piecing class I took last month. They are holding the follow-up class on Saturday, but if I don't have my pieces done then it won't be worth-while for me to go.

Victoria wanted me to show her how to make her own baby wipes, so I went out last night to get the things needed and gave it a trial run-through as I have not had to make them in almost 20 years. I think they will work and Elizabeth is going to drop it off to Victoria when she gets out of work.

I think I'm on the tail-end of this cold. I took Nyquil last night so I wouldn't keep David up while I coughed. I think it is time to make some coffee here and get some cobwebs out of my brain.

Have a great day everyone,
Karlene

Good Morning,

I've fat-fingered my keyboard and lost my post twice now. Hopefully the third time is a charm.

TERESA - sorry Courtney didn't get the placement she was hoping for. Maybe next term. In the meantime, she'll be looking to you to be a pillar of strength for her while she forges ahead with the opportunity that she was given.

SUZ - I don't know how big your quilts are but if you put them all on the same piece of fabric and cut them apart later you may have some difficulties. If you're quilting them on a frame with a quilting machine (I forgot which method you use) as you roll up the quilted quilt your take up roller will get so full it will fill the throat of your machine and reduce your quilting field to almost nothing by the end of the last quilt. I can't even imagine doing it on Nina the Bernina. That would be so much bulk to handle. And know we all have your back tomorrow! We'll be rootin' and prayin' for you!

JULES - love your little robin! you make everything look so easy.

LOIS - that's the trouble with starting to really feel better. We overdo. and we pay for it. (but I bet it felt good doing normal things again. ;>) ) Hope today you feel better.

VICKY - what fun to be invited to go shopping for the DGK's! have a merry time! Hope you get to see Ross soon. Is TG at your house?

BECCA - lucky you! you found more fabric! You could do that cute tree skirt that Suzette posted the link for . . . . lol!

JUDI - your posts always tire me! lol!! You do so much! There's been a post about a Christmas card exchange over in Swaps for a month or so. Good luck with the shopping. My kids, kids-in-law, and DGK's never tell us what they want. They all get $50 and a small gift of my choosing. and at least one of them is getting sox!

CHRISS - happy blood-giving! As I read Carole's lovely post last night, I was thinking of you, also. What a sacrifice you and Sharon are making. But oh, the sweet rewards you will get! and the difference you are making, not only in your 'kids'' lives, but in generations to follow. oh, as for boxer short fabrics, I have some cool Seattle print, and some geckos on black (family joke with this SIL). He's got a good sense of humor so it's time to have fun!

KATHY - happy 'little mistake fixing'! Is there a pattern you are using for your table toppers? I was thinking of making one for my DD . . but can't decide on a pattern.

VELDA - glad you're finding your pattern so useful, but sorry you're having problems with it - or finding problems with it is more accurate. I wouldn't do any more cutting until I figured out what went wrong though! Good luck!

CINDY - your tote sounds so cute! It might take an extra few hours but the way your are quilting it will only make it even cuter. Hope dinner was worth sacrificing your sewing time!

KARLENE - you are really getting a lot done with that cold! You must sew like the wind!

It's COLD!! 29* here this morning! And Scottie got into the motherlode of his dog food yesterday - a big container in the pantry - and helped himself to who knows how much extra food. So he had to go out twice in the middle of the night to "un-lode"! Brrrr... . . . .

DH has my Anvil Chorus on the frame and thinks he might finish it today. good thing as a client dropped off a large quilt last night for him to do. I need to make some bindings today and maybe get started on a label. I bind my labels on two sides and catch the other two sides in the quilt binding when I sew it on, so I need to have them ready before I can do the binding. and finish up those boxers - 2 or 3 pair. I haven't decided yet.

Have a great day!
mary z

Good Morning Girls

Missed you all yesterday... I took advantage of a little time before work to go down and sew a little yesterday morning... trying to get 2 tote bags made for our RPh that had twins.

Teresa.... Good thing they let you out! You have lots to do! Poor Courtney--maybe she should transfer to the U of Mn to finish school. We have lots of interns work with us all the time. In the olden days, students didn't have to do rotations.. only work an internship for so many hours and you had 2 choices--retail pharmacy or Hospital. I didn't realize they did it with a lottery... that's crazy and it sure doesn't sound very fair. Will she get a chance to do a ped. oncology rotation later?

Karlene... do you make your baby wipes with a 1/2 roll of paper towels? My old boss use to make her own all the time. Have you seen the new thing now for a warmer for baby wipes! I don't think they even HAD baby wipes when my babies were born.

Becca.. Isn't it wonderful to find fabric you didn't know you had.. I'm sure that if I ever clean out my stash I'll find stuff I didn't even know was there. I had my son check my tires the other day--I dread having to get new ones, crazy expensive since you usually have to replace all 4 at the same time. Practically have to take out a 2nd mortgage!

Jules... Oh my your little birdie is so cute! What fun! He will look so cute on your tree!

Judi... when you get all the Christmas decorating done, I'd love to see pictures. It's a little early for me, usually I don't do much until Mid December and it all comes down on New Years Day. None of my kids are easy to buy for.. but my one DIL has a horse and can always use "boarding money". Grands are even worse as they have all the toys and electronics and clothes they need. Was thinking about making the little girls matching pj's but I'm running out of time!

Vicky...I sure hope all your kids can be together for Thanksgiving! Do you have a nice big table to hold them all? Good luck with your Christmas shopping today!

Suzette.... Love the tree skirt pattern!! Nice to hear you had a good time with your friend and that she loves the quilts. Will be thinking of you tomorrow and praying for all good results and a quick recovery.

Lois... take it easy honey!! Mind your QIAD friends and don't over due! It's hard to sit still sometimes tho isn't it when you can see things that need to be done.

Chriss... I haven't checked out the Block Party for 2014 yet... Heck I can't believe it's almost 2104!!! A new year coming and an opportunity to learn from all the mistakes of 2013!

Kathy.... Are you getting excited for your trip? BOING BOING

Cindyg... Hope your work day goes smoothly...sounds like you will get to fondle fabric tonight! Can I sign up for the drawing on one of your bling totes too?

Maryz... Boxer Shorts! How cute... Will you post pictures of the boys modeling them? LOL. Glad Bill is keeping busy with all the quilting projects. How much does he charge? Would he trade quilting for Choc. Chip cookies?

Velda... Hope you get that pattern all figured out! Good idea to take notes so you can remember what you did!

Well girls, I think I'm going to get butt in gear and see what I can get accomplished this morning before I have to hit the shower. Need to go down and iron something to wear to work today.

Wishing you all a most wonderful day

Hi to everyone,
I'm getting ready to fly to Denver, leave Corpus Christi at 1:20 pm and arrive at 5:30 pm. My Sis and her hubby arrive, from Oregon, at 6 pm. I will ride up with them to our folks house in Ft. Collins. Will stop at the RV garage and get my SUV, so I have wheels while there. Tomorrow is my Dad's 95th birthday and Sunday the family is having a dinner at my brother's house. I will drive up and check on the house Friday. I will get to spent Friday night and half of Saturday with the grandkids.
Off to the shower. Hope everyone is doing well and your prayers are being answered.

I’m back!!!! Twice in one day, that must be some sort of record hahaha

Suze – glad you had a great lunch, prayers and love sent for tomorrow xxx oh and I’m not even looking at that pattern, have far too much to do!!!!

Lois – boy you worked hard yesterday....much harder than me, honestly that little bird was sooo easy

Vicky – hope you’re having a lovely day with Kim and hope you can all get together for TG xx

Becca – hope after all those errands you get to play with that Christmas fabric....i think the rule is if you find Christmas fabric just before Christmas you have to use it and heap another job on yourself LOL

Grammie – I’m sure your sons wives would love a quilt next year, the hardest part for me is planning what to get, i try to do that pretty early in the year so i can pick things up from my list throughout the year :)

Chriss – a little blood for a discount, sounds good to me, would be nice if quilt stores did that, the amount of times i prick a finger and lose a little blood LOL...the wool comes in colours, you make the basic shape out of nautral coloured wool and then get coloured wool to mix and add over the top of the shape you’ve made

Kathy – when do you go on your trip and how long for?? Are you staying away over Christmas?? I’ve missed so much over the last few weeks that I’m not up on all the chatter :)

Velda – oh I hate it when that happens, wondering if it’s a mistake on the pattern, we’ve all had one like that, can’t wait to see what you make :)

Cindyg – hope getting your hairs cut doesn’t eat into too much of your sewing time, can’t wait to see what you’re making :)

Karlene – oh i hope you can get your homework done, would be a shame to miss the class and glad your cold seems to be getting better :)

Maryz – you are far too complimentary, i can say the same for you when i see just how many very beautiful quilts you crack out one after the other.....naughty Scottie, one of my dogs stole a whole freshloy cooked beef joint one day, as quiet as a mouse, while DH left the joint resting on the side and wasn’t looking, she stole it off the side and ate the whole thing, I tell you that naughty girl didn’t get any food from me for 2 days!!!

scrappyPat - it’s getting real cold here too......about an hour north of us had snow yesterday, not too heavy but i just know it’s on it’s way and I’m hoping it doesn’t come yet, I don’t like driving in snow and I still have stuff to get done for Christmas, so I don’t want to be confined to the house just yet :)

Well I’ve finished the baby quilt I making, label all done and sewn on and I’m delivering it tomorrow morning, then I’m popping out with DH, he’s going for a fitting for a suit hes having made and I hope to talk him into buying me lunch while we’re out :) So I’ll catch up with you tomorrow some time, lots of love xx

It was a rainy night in Kansas… Now it’s a rainy, gloomy day on the prairie. That’s o.k. with me; I have sewing and cookie making to accomplish today.

Theresa—perhaps there are better things down the road for Courtney. This may be a little “slow down for a breather” on her journey to being a physician.

MaryQ—they didn’t have baby wipes when my DD was born. I used little squares of flannel and washed them with my diapers. Yep, I used cloth diapers, too.

Suzette—I love the crackers tree skirt! When my aunt was alive, we always had a box of British crackers to pop at our Christmas dinner. I think I know what I’m going to make for my sister next year… Sending you hugs for tomorrow!

Scrappy Pat—we may get some ice, but so far snow is not in the forecast. I need to take my cookies to Pittsburg tomorrow evening… That may be an adventure.

Jules—I love your little robin! My DD would go bonkers for it—wish you were next door… I’d come over and have you help me make one for her. Better not let Sandy (Kho) see it… She always has her eye out for robins… Thank you for those darling pictures!

Sharon—I echo Carole’s post last evening about caring for Cooper and Lucy. I can’t believe the price of your pecans! Hopefully the prices will go down—if we had a good year, other growers might have had a good year, too.

MaryZ—that’s how I bind my labels, too. Speaking of sewing like the wind… you go, Girl! I’m lucky so far, TB and Odie don’t go for the pantry bucket of dog food. They do hear the treat drawer open. I keep thinking it will be empty one of these days as they figure out how to open it. Yesterday when DH came in, they were sprawled in the recliners looking like they were teenagers watching TV.

Cindy—hope you post photos! It will be so neat the way you are quilting it.

Velda—the more organized I try to be, the more confused I end up… Good luck sorting it out! Sometimes when a pattern has several sets of directions on it, I will copy the pages then black out the sizes I’m not using.

Chriss—I might have to check out the BOM… Enjoy your day!

Judi—hope you post your decorations again this year. I never tire of them!

Becca—we had tires put on several of our vehicles this summer… Ka-ching$$$ What a $urpri$3 at the cost.

Vicky—those Sylvia blocks this week sure look challenging. They would challenge me at 12”. Your quilt will be amazing. Enjoy your day with Kim!

Lois—I think today is a “take it easy” day for you! Dr. Chick’s orders…

I’m sure I’ve probably missed some here—really didn’t mean to… Hope everyone has a great day! Time for me to get my mixer humming…
