SUPPER CLUB - Mon, Nov 4th

Post by purrfect-lady » Mon Nov 04, 2013 3:28 am

Good morning!

We had a big windstorm here all day long on Friday. What a lot of debris, leaves, and small branches we had to clean up! DH started a fire - not too big - to burn it all. A while later we had a firetruck in the yard. Someone complained. So we had to put the fire out. And our turncoat puppy was NICE to the fire guys!! I had to scold him.

BECCA - about once a year when we were kids, Mom would make tapioca pudding for supper. A huge pot of it and that's all we would have. and we could eat all we wanted. and we could eat it in our 'secret camp', aka, blanket thrown over the card table. you just brought back a great memory for me!

JANA - When you said "Sh--p and pasta, my first thought was "Sheep" and pasta! lol!! I could never let myself get into model railroads. I'd have them all over the house, holes in the walls, and all my time (and money!) would be spent buying all the accessories like villages, trees, creating mountains, etc. What a FUN hobby!!

IRISH - Now I like the idea of a catered party! This just keeps getting better and better! Now all I need is for my DD to come visit. Sigh.

Well, I don't know what to say about supper tonite. I hyped pork chops for days last week and we've STILL never had them! Ditto the meatloaf. But for now, those are the two things I'm considering. With potatoes (mashed or riced), salad, and maybe a veggie. No afters!

So, are you starting to make your Thanksgiving plans yet? We're going to DD's and her 16 yo son is cooking. He's asked me to bring a pumpkin cheesecake and rolls. I think I'll make crescent rolls and top 1/3 with poppy seeds, 1/3 with toasted sesame seeds, and 1/3 plain.

Good morning from semi sunny, cold, SW. Pa...We had a bad frost last night and now the leaves are falling like snow....Jim mentioned going out to rake but I think that would be a never ending job....Maybe another big wind will come by and blow them into the neighbor's yard.....

Mary, I had to laugh about the firetruck....Jim is constantly "burning" and we now have certain days you are allowed...But, years ago, he had a small fire going (which I didn't know) and I also had the grill going and we had a knock at the front door...There stood a policeman! He said, someone riding by saw smoke and reported...I very firmly told him, "I'm only grilling hamburgers!"....And then he explained about the other little fire....What is it about men and fire????

As far as our dinner, Jim is in charge tonight....Last week, he picked up a frozen thing at Aldi's...It's a complete turkey/stuffing/mashed potatoes/veggie meal and from the picture on the box, "it's going to be delish"...So, that's going into the oven and maybe 2 of us will eat...There's still a little left over Chinese for me if it's just turkey for 1...I think maybe Jim is getting tired of waiting for Thanksgiving....

And our plans for Thanksgiving are kind of up in the air...I really do like to cook and have everyone here but any more it's hard to get them all in one place at the same time....Last year we went to Kevin's and probably will again this year..Of course she might have half of the Lacrosse team there also.. She always makes sure the kids that can't go home for the holiday will have some place to go...She is special.....

Happy eating........................

Good cold morning!

It is barely 32 here at almost noon!

Thanksgiving - well it will be very interesting this year - Matt is closing on the new home for his family the day before Thanksgiving and as soon as he gets the keys - the MOVE is on! So dinner will be out here - I will have to prep everything during the week as all of my helpers will be enlisted in the move to the new house. We are glad that the new house is only 2 blocks - yes - two blocks from the old house - so it won't take long to load - drive - unload - drive back and start all over again! Crenda has done a lot of the packing already - so that should make it go faster as well. Matt wants to be out and have the old house cleaned out and ready for new tenants on the 1st of December. He is renting out the old house until the market picks up here - he is barely under water - just a couple of thousand, but the neighborhood has ten or so other condo's on the market - so he will just wait a little while. Turkey dinner here always has the star - turkey, potatoes, gravy, stuffing, green stuff(a jello salad), veggies, cranberry sauce and a assortment of pies. Pecan, pumpkin, lemon meringue, and I may add a chocolate cream this year too. Oh I almost forgot the bread rolls - that should keep me busy besides I will have the two littlest ones - Ethan and Emma to help me! LOL

Dinner tonight - I want Chicken! So a short drive to Popeye's is in order - too cold to eat at the train station - so we will bring it home and I will add mashed taters and a salad. There is a football game on too - so we can eat in front of the fireplace with the game!

Enjoy!

Ha Irish,
My DGS said poppa didn't make his toast correctly last week!
Tonight, we will be eating tacos, I believe. DG's have been picking menus, and we try to accomadate somewhat! Some mexican rice and a salad may find it's way to the table too!
I do the TG dinner in our family...We start out with whoever comes from my side of the family for the long weekend, and the day off, DH's family comes in for dinner....of course clear through the weekend, have tons of cousins come by to visit with my sisters and their families, and we always have a few stray that have no where to go. We usually average anywhere from 40 - 50 every year...Lots of fun, but busy!

Good Evening All......from a very nippy Hereford......

Thought for the week:-

We HAVE JOINED THE SKI CLUB.....SPENDING KIDS INHERITANCE.......

The week-end was lovely.......except for the gale force winds....nearly got blown into the next county....so our bonfire wasn't nearly as big as we usually have it.....and the lads only used half the fireworks......we really didn't want to see our caravans go up in smoke......but we still had a glorious time.....even if we did have to hang on to the Marquee to stop it taking off like a parachute......

Today has been washing and ironing day.....how can two people acquire so much in just a few days ?????? however all washed dried ironed and tucked safely away.....until the next lot......
Now this is one of those days when the slow cooker comes into its own.......except.....I forgot to do some de-frosting of chicken when we got home last night.....so .....todays menu...Savory Mince pie(that doest take so long to defrost) Creamed Potatoes and Cabbage.....Bakewell tart and Custard for afters......
