Teresa - we don't have much in the way of fall color either. I don't think I'll decorate for fall this year. Feeling kind of blah. What do I think about autumn? - Houston Int'l. Quilt Festival!!!! BOING

Lois - pulled pork here means BBQ sauce. Is that what your pulled pork means? We're having pork chops tonight - can't pull those. I'm trying to let my hair grow out a little. By next week I might be running back to the salon to get it cut in the normal way.....very, very short.

Suz - that is good to know about the post office. I don't mail that many packages but the next time I do....

Vicky - I feel bad that you have to go to the dentist today. I detest that. Bless Tia's heart. She is overdue now, right? Can't wait to see Kim's quilt.

Chriss - I'll send good thoughts toward Marilyn today. Yea - a calm week.

Maryz - what do you mean "half birthday"? I'm glad things are going to well with Scotty Cutie. Can't wait to see your RV quilt. I'm so glad you were able to sew with your odd (left) foot.

Delores - do you live right on the water? Fig trees in pots??? My grandmother had a huge fig tree in her back yard but it was in the ground. She use to make fig preserves but I never was around when she did it so I didn't learn a thing from her. I have never tried fig preserves - I always thought the word "fig" sounds so nasty. I love Fig Newtons though. DH loves fig preserves. Boy, I sure rambled on with this post, didn't I?

Judi - sewing is taking it easy, isn't it? It relaxes us.....unless, like me, you sew 7 log cabin blocks incorrectly and had to unsew and re-do. BTW I made that bread yesterday - the recipe you posted a while back. It was good but DH doesn't like such a hard crust. I had the dough rising in a bowl on the island and Schatzi (the Yorkie) was barking her fool head off at that bowl. I don't know if she could hear it rising or what but it was the craziest thing.

Well, due to the storms on Friday I didn't go to Vicki's to quilt and it's a good thing since I had no brakes on my car. The brake booster went out. My car just turned over 20,000 miles. I KNEW I should not have bought a Ford. I never had any problems with my Toyotas. The good news is that it was a warranty fix AND they got it fixed on Saturday so I didn't have any transportation problems getting to work today. The Texans lost yesterday - BOO HOO. They looked like a bunch of buffoons - ugh. I messed up my log cabins as I said earlier. I'm a buffoon, too.

I hope we can all fondle fabric today.

Good morning!

We've already received another 1.08" of rain since yesterday - almost 9" for the month. Our 'normal' yearly total is 15. We're thinking this is going to be a long and hard winter.

One week from today the movers will be here. I am ashamed of my complaining earlier after seeing the poor flood victims. My next sister down will be here tomorrow to light a fire underneath me for the final stretch.

I'm also checking in when I can to see if Tia's baby has decided to make an appearance. Prayers being lifted for those in need.

xoxo! Sharona

Good morning! Theresa, it definitely is starting to feel like fall here—nights in the 50s and low 60s, days in the 80s. Our leaves are not turning yet, but we have apples—cake, pies, crisps, sauce, caramel, fried… Have fun on your outing!

Mel—the little girls are darling! What a sweet picture.

O'Dorothy--however do you have the patience to deal with those crass people and the weddings? Do they leave horrible messes? Do you charge for use, for cleanup? I like that you are in charge and had them leave the cooler at the door!

Kathy—I get frustrated with the USPS, too. Unfortunately we don’t have a Staples nearby. The UPS and FedEx places in town are only open for packages for half an hour in the afternoons. Good luck with your errands! Hope you find some fun things at the quilt shops. What’s up with your sister?

Lois—I gave up coloring my hair when the roots and hair started to blend. I vote with you for these temps year around as well. Enjoy your outing!

Suzette—your P.O. must be way more automated than ours. Actually, ours isn’t automated at all. Nothing is in the lobby after hours except access to our mail boxes. I know your furbabies are waiting patiently…

Vicky—good luck at the dentist. Do you sew the label under the binding? I usually put my labels under the binding in a corner so it’s more permanent. When was Tia’s due date?

Chriss—loved your picture of Rich. What a good sport—that has to endear him to his students. They will want to do well for him. Best wishes to Marilyn. Her speech is so sweet. HUGS!!!

MaryZ—We need rain, but not all the muck the dogs bring in with it. Now when I hear that song, I’ll be thinking of your little Scottie… They change from puppies to little doggies so quickly. Half birthdays are cool—we should go get half the birthday presents we get on our full b-day! Good news that your leg is on the mend! Do not over do it!!!

Dolores—congratulations on approaching 50 years together!!! I know you will make a perfect quilt—so many choices… double wedding ring, Sylvia’s bridal sampler, photo memories, combination… 44 is only 12 degrees above freezing… just sayin’… I’m not ready for it, but then I am never ready for winter. Hummmm… I wonder if I can get away with stashing some large pots of plants in DH’s garage…

Judi—I’ve only watched bobbin work on TV shows. It looks fascinating, and you can get some great effects. I’m not sure I can work my head around working on the wrong side of the piece on the top side… Have a fun day! Someone else needs to do the vacuuming for you!!!

Cindy—I had an Escort that was a lemon. It was supposed to be such a good car, but from day one I had problems. Never have had any difficulties with any other Fords (trucks, Pintos, Mustangs)—just the Escort. The dealer called me crazy, and I threatened to sue and drive around with a magnetic sign on it with a picture of a lemon and “I bought this lemon at ___ Dealer”. Finally, my DH and I found the problem on the lot after they had supposedly fixed it (NOT!). I wrote letters to Ford Motor Co and complained. I did finally get a letter of apology and a call from the owner of the dealer. I did not have the Escort any longer. It was the lowest mileage car I ever traded in. Good luck to you! Hope your car doesn’t turn into a nightmare of lemons!

Sharona—I’d still be willing to share your rain. That flood damage is terrible. It’s only water, but it sure does horrible damage when it is out of control. I would hate to have to go back and sort out my flood-ruined possessions. My heart goes out to those people. I would honestly rather not see anything like we did with the fire than have to deal with the remains of a flood or a tornado where everything is scattered over miles and miles.

I need to get busy here. I’ve started several projects—a twister wall hanging for Halloween, a quilt for my DD for Christmas, my other Christmas gifts… I’m so addled… And, it’s so lovely outside, I want to be out there, too…

Have a great day, All!

Good Morning everyone
Another blessed Monday morning. We woke up to a cold, cloudy, and very dreary morning. The evening air feels like frost, I surely hope it waits awhile, my sweet potatoes aren't quiet ready.

I have my machine on go, ready to sew more Sylvia blocks. Everyone drop in to visit on that thread. It isn't too late to join.

Lois you will enjoy the Hickery Holler wonder lady. I found this lady last week and I'm still reading her blog. It's the kind of life for me---well maybe not completely. Last count she had 569 jars canned this season and still going strong. Can you imagine? I made her biscuits for breakfast this morning. Did you smell them baking? They are the best biscuits I've made in a long time.

I guess I better get busy, I have to take Mom to the doctor this evening. That means sitting about 3 hours before we can flee from his office.

Happy Quilting Redtop

WOW I have a horse and buggy PO LOL. No really it is the size of my bathroom. YOu walk in a narrow room with mailboxes on either side and a table then to back is closet where poor sue sits to sort mail. Love sue but man our PO is country country. She does have a computer in the closet LOL. What gets me is I look at your postage when you send things to me. I got a huge box that was that cost what I paid to send an envelope to teresa. Upsetting. Sue tells me its based on zip code. I think I will go into town next timw to mail so I get cheaper rates. LOL

Leaves are starting to change here. When my woods turn pretty and my valley is in full color I will post pics for you Teresa:) So glad those blocks were good and got in their boxes for you:)) I am so excited.

I am at work taking a 5 min break. We have been working on story writing with kids today. OH MY. No imagination because they don't use it to play anymore. Video games is all they know. THere go the authors and movie writers girls.

Well I hope to get home to sew a bit. I have NH blocks all over my sewing room in stacks. I am working on getting them sorted and put together.

Well going to warm up lunch and enter data into computer for morning sessions then testing kids this afternoon before afternoon sessions. Shew busy busy.

God Bless and happy thoughts
Izzy

Delorous I want to make double wedding ring for my 50th but I want one ring solid gold and the other my wedding color Purple.:)
So neat you are only 1 year away. Plenty of time to decide LOL

Good Morning Girls

I am happy to report this morning that my Calendar Blocks are DONE! Went into work for a few hours yesterday, to fix a broken printer and print out a ton of reports and stopped for groceries on the way home. Never made it to Joann :-( Which is probably actually a good thing! Should probably wait until pay day, after bills are paid to make another trip there. Came home and finished up those CB's then parked fanny on the couch.

Chriss.. Will be anxious to hear the election results today! All good thoughts for Marilyn today! You must be so proud of her! Me too! You missed dunking your son? Darn! Love the picture of him tho.

O'Dorothy.... some people just have NO sense of decency! Did they try to bring Beer into the church! I'm glad you told them to take it right back out.

Vicky..... All sorts of good thoughts and prayers for Tia today! I'm with you, I HATE going to the DDS, even for a cleaning and I'm about 6 years over-due!

Teresa.... OH BOY I'm getting excited to have all those lovely dancing Christmas blocks arrive at my house. I'm SURE I will NOT be the first one to get them all put together! I still have Christmas blocks from 2007 not done yet!

Dolores... good idea to start now on that Anniversary Quilt! You could do that thing where you print pictures on fabric, kind of a "through the years" quilt!

Maryz... too funny about 1/2 birthdays! Any reason to celebrate is Ok with me! Sounds like Scottie is getting house trained really well and quickly.

Judi... glad to hear you got a good-night's sleep. What is "bobbin work" Nope, no vacuuming for a while yet! A good day sewing sounds do-able tho...

Kathy.... 4 days in the house sounds wonderful to me, but I know what you mean.... time to get OUT for a little bit. Every day when I go to work I think of how much I could get done if I could stay home, but then there'd be now $$$ for fabric!

Cindyg...Somebody was definitely watching over you --- and your car with no brakes! Glad they were able to fix them so quickly so you could get on the road again. One of these years I'm going to make it down to Houston! It seems to land right almost ON my birthday! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME! There's a Sewing-Quilting Show not too far from my house the week of my birthday, so I'm taking my "birthday-day-off" to go this year. Have been saving up some extra $$ so I can go! (We get a paid day off for our birthdays)

Sharon... I bet you are getting super anxious to get all moved! My BFF up in LaSalle is having a really hard time with the floods. They didn't get water, but lots of their neighbors did and it's a mess. They had hoped to sell soon, but that's been put off. Her DH got laid off at his job and is now looking for work.

OH MY.... just looked at the clock... my chat time is up already and I haven't had a chance to talk with you all! Gotta get in the shower and leave a little early to stop at the PO. Am hoping if I go into work a little early that I can leave a little early tonight so I can get home in time to watch the Season Premiere of "Castle".

Hope you all have a grand and glorious day today and with a little luck Tia's baby will make his/her entrance. I'll check on line during my lunch to see if there's any news.

Good morning!

Didn't get down in the sewing room at all yesterday - just hid out upstairs and watched my 9ner's lose - again! Wasn't a good week-end for my football teams - most of them all lost. Guess that it is black arm band time! LOL

Well the weather and seasons has certainly turned here - we have that dirty four letter word in the forecast - snow! At least it is in the mountains for now. My kids will be driving back over Donner Summit this week-end and they had snow on the pass yesterday - uggh! But it will be OK - they both know how to drive in the snow. The mountains across the valley as just starting to show their colors, but all of the "theys" are saying that the colors won't be spectacular this year.

The sprinkler system is ready to be covered in - DH and Eric ran off to the store for a couple of final parts. The fence company called and they had a cancellation, so they will be here this afternoon to get started on the fencing across the fronts of the houses - mine and the two neighbors on either side. The long fencing down the property lines will wait until Spring - the neighbors are going to do that themselves - cheaper that way. But I wanted both sides of my house to match - so the fencing company is doing that. On one side I have a 8 1/2 foot gate and on the other side will be a arbor with a gate - eventually a trailing type of vine will grow over the arbor.

Chriss - "Our" girl has grown so much since she came to live with you and Jerry - what a difference lots of love makes! If I were there - I would be stuffing the ballot box for her!

Well I need to scoot - still have paperwork to get done for FIL - he will be here Friday afternoon. Need to get all my ducks in a row.

Hugs
Jana

That baby had better hurry up! Must be a boy - mine are always late - even now!

Good afternoon from slightly overcast, chilly (for me), SW. Pa....It is a good day to stay inside and do something productive......

I am trying to do something...I started on Jim's side of our walk in in the bedroom..Separated his summer shirts and hung them in the other walk in in the other bedroom...I hate to start on my side...We do have way too many clothes and I am hoping to have a huge bag ready for Good Wheel....

I talked to Kathy last night and she is planning to come home for a week the end of Oct. It will be a busy time but it will be so nice to see her....Oh my she sounds so happy....

I'm still angry about that wedding last Sat. This was a huge affair and as Chriss said, all the money that is spent and then they act like jerks...I had done the wedding of the bride's brother a while back and his men got out of their bus carrying beer bottles..I ended up gathering bottles out of the bushes...Thank goodness all the kids are finally married in that family....

Chickie, Most of the times, I love, love doing the weddings...It's like everything else, there's always 1 to spoil things...But, I get paid a flat rate, no matter how long the rehearsal takes or how long it takes to get them out of the church, lol...And I do have to clean up afterwards...You can't believe how many half empty water bottles I've picked up and anything else this is left in the pews...

Judi, glad to hear this is a "take it easy" day...And whatever you do, DO NOT VACUUM, no matter what...I've been told by many doctors, that has to be the worst thing you can do.....Gift cert. to a quilt shop, doesn't get much better than that...I've anxious to hear about Bobbin Work, never heard of it....

Chriss, thinking about Marilyn and hoping for a good outcome on the election....You should be so proud of both your kids...You'll have to watch and not pop too many buttons.....

Cindy, you remarked about your Texas team, well, we have 2 teams in Pgh. that forgot to show up at the games yesterday...Both the Pirates and the Steelers lost.....Joanne's Reds are having a good time with our Buccos......

Well, I think I'd better get back to that closet...AND we did have a call from our plumber and he's bringing our new "throne" today...Talk about excitement!

You all have a good day and hopefully some news about a new baby soon......

Hi everyone :o) I missed morning, was at PT then had to grab a few things from Walmart.
Lois,happy haircut day :o)
Suzette, hmmmmmm I don't think our PO has a print thing at it but I print mine at home on my printer and then just tape them on but I use the Flat Rate Priority boxes so I don't have to figure weight.
Vicky, sounds like it will be soon :o)
Chriss, if the labels you need are for the Flat Rate Priority where it doesn't matter on the weight you can print those labels on your printer at home and use regular printer paper. :o) I love doing it that way and I even schedule a pickup so I don't have to bother with going to town anymore to mail....Love it!
Maryz, Happy Have Birthday to you :o) Did you take Scottie walking with you? If you did I bet you had to carry him part of the way, that's been my experience when I take puppies walking with me LOL they're good for a little bit then they tucker out so I'd carry them the rest of the way :o)
Dolores, hmmmmmmm wonder what quilt you will decide on? Are you going to start it soon so you'll be finished for your 50th or wait to start it on your 50th? If it's a year away then it must be your anniversary today, so Happy Anniversary! :o)
GrammieQ, Happy take it easy day! :o) r-e-l-a-x!
Kathy, even though you're upset at you PO you're getting an extra special day by the sounds of your schedule :o) I'd like to get upset at my PO if I could have your kinda day :o)
Cindyg, you are not a buffoon but I can tell you who is, it's the lady that designed the quilt pattern I'm working on for DD....I wanted to pull my hair out! I unsewed 2 times, took 3 times the charm for me and it was because her pattern is messed up! I made corrections and now I like it, so does DD :o)
Sharona, I feel bad for the ones that got flooded even though we needed the water so badly. I hope we have a wet winter....I'm hoping for LOTS of SNOW! I love SNOW! :o) Happy hot fanny from your sister day tomorrow! LOL
Chickie, I hope we can find some apples to buy this year! I love to go for the drive up in the Mimbres and see all the leaves changing colors and stop and get apples from the orchards there and home grown honey too, mmmmmmmmmmmm :o)
Tess, I love dropping in on your thread and seeing the blocks you and everyone are doing :o) Hope you don't have to sit the 3 hrs today.
Izzy, love the DWR idea with the gold one! Have a good day with those kiddos.
Maryq, YEAH! You made it girl :o) Happy Dance for you :o)
Jana, you're going to have a very busy Friday with you FIL and your LA being setup, hope the schedules don't collide.
Teresa, I love Fall! We usually have to take a little drive to see the Fall colors but I love that too :o) Looking forward to the mail coming this week! YeeHaw!
I hope you all have a wonderful day! I'll keep checking in to see if we have a baby :o) Prayers for all in need.
Tina

Good afternoon...

I think today is a perfect day weather wise!! It is sunny and just the right temp. Our leave aren't changing yet. I am not a cold weather person but I do love the changing of the leaves.
I mailed my calendar blocks and some orphan blocks to Izzy today so I do feel like I did something productive. lol

Vicky...how is Tia? When is/was her due date? Was she early or on time with Jovann? Hope the delivery goes smoothly. I imagine she is more than ready for this baby to come!

Chriss....hope Mar is proud of herself for running for VP. It sure doesn't take kids long to thrive in the right environment. Cooper and Lucy have been here almost a year and I am amazed at how far they have come. Lucy is potty trained, talks non stop and I bet she has grown 5" and gained 5 lbs. Let us know how it went.

Chickie....how is Odie? I would love to get a pet for the kids...just not a cat or dog. They love dogs and know all the names of the pups in the neighborhood.

Maryz....cute pics of the boys! Glad he is settling in and getting his routine down.

Kathy...what color of chair did you get? It sounds like you are liking your new house a lot. How is your DD?

Teresa...can't wait for the blocks to come home. It seems like September flew by.

Cindyg..glad your car was under warranty. I have a ford but it's not new. I hate being without a car.

Irishgram....too bad about the wedding. Guess it does take one to spoil it. Makes you wonder where they thought it was ok to start drinking before the wedding? What were they like at the reception?

Well Cooper gets off the bus at 5:21 so I better go. The day sure does fly by while he's at school. It's so different with him being gone during the day. Lucy is lost without him.

Hope everyone has a great evening!

Sharon
