Kathy - bless your heart. I can't sleep when I'm hot either. I hope you could sleep when you went back to bed.

Maryz - you, too? Is that hot tea you are drinking? I love El's Flying Geese ruler. Been a while since I've had a pattern where I can use it.

MaryRosebud - a lot of evenings I feel like taking a little snooze when I get home from work but I don't dare because I'd never get to sleep at night. When I get home from work I don't even sit down until I've got dinner fixed and a load of laundry going or whatever little chore that needs doing. Is the time right on your post? You were up at 2:00 in the morning? UGH!

Lois - You must have had fun with your Gkids and that's why your week flew by. Are you tired?

Suz - nobody was in the pool? Gosh, that doesn't happen here - LOL. One of my LQSs is having a sale tomorrow, too, but I'm not going. I don't need anything but if I go Ill find lots I can't live without. So I'll just stay home and sew.

Lori - Crazy 8 blocks? My iron does not have an auto shut off and I left it on for 10 days one time. I nearly fainted when I realized it. Nothing happened. The iron still works and the house is still standing. I haven't left the iron since. I love love love my iron.

Vicky - maybe the chickens think it's too hot to get up - LOL. What are you going to use all that black Kona for?

Grammie - I just hate it when I do something stupid and it happens to me all the time. Those neck coolers are great. We wet ours and put them in the freezer or in the ice chest if we are going fishing.

I got home from work yesterday only to find the power was out in our neighborhood. Couldn't cook, get on the computer, dry clothes, etc. so we went out to dinner. The power was back on by the time we got home. Instead of eating out tonight I'll go home and fix last night's dinner. I worked on piecing the border for the RV quilt then got the house ready for the cleaning lady. I've got to get those borders on this weekend. Gonna quilt that quilt next weekend. Here at work I'm getting a new computer next Monday afternoon. My geek is having to coordinate with my accounting program tech support. I hope that, between the two of them, that my transition to the new computer goes smoothly. I'm not gonna hold my breath. LOL

I hope we can all fondle fabric today.

Good Morning Girls

HAPPY FRIDAY! Yippee... It's finally Friday and PAY DAY. IF I get out of work on time tonight I'm going shopping! Have been trying to get to Joann ALL WEEK. The way things have been going at work, it's not too likely that I'll get out on time, but a girl can dream right?

Kathy.... sorry you are having such a hard time sleeping.. Maybe a nap today will be in order. I have EL's geese rulers too, they're the best! I love making geese. One of these days I'm going to make a scrappy quilt with all Geese! Even have a drawer full of all sorts of extra geese I've made over the years.

Judi... hot and muggy here too, I'm sure waiting for a cool down too.. would love to open the windows again --just waiting for a cool day with a nice breeze!. I know I'll be missing these days when the snow starts flying!

Vicky...love your new flatware.. It's classy! If there were any hills around me, I would sure look to them. When I was in AK I could see the mountains from Jen's deck. Every morning I would look to those mountains and think of that verse "look to the hills from whence comes your help" and say a little prayer for all the wonderful people God has put in my life.

Lori.. Can't tell you how many irons I have gone through. Even my Rowenta konked out pretty quickly. My newest one is a Sharp and it seems to be hanging in there. When they start to SPIT they have to go! Always have a spare around here someplace. I love the OT paychecks, but after working 47-50 hrs a week I'm pretty pooped out.

Lois. I bet it will be nice and quiet at your house now! Fun to have the GK's around but aaahhh the peace and quiet after they are gone.

Chriss. Can't wait to see Marilyn's new room!! How fun for her to have a "teenager" room and to decorate it all "girly" Bet you are looking forward to vacation!!!

Gabriele... good to hear your headache went away. I don't get them often but when I do.. I grab Excedrin! If you have some spare COOL AIR, send it up here... I could use a cool down.

Suzette.... Hope all went well at your "girly checkup" Luckily I don't have any parts that need checking anymore (hysterectomy) but I go every year anyway.. for an over haul! I just hate standing on their scale, it's just depressing!

Maryz... you may have to take a nap this afternoon too! Just put your feet up and your head back, close your eyes and dream a little!

Guess I better get going.. jump in the shower and then mentally prepare myself for another busy day.

Tomorrow I am going down to my Aunt's apartment to help my sister with a little "garage sale" she's having there to get rid of the last of Auntie's "stuff" since she's moved into Assisted Living. Sunday I am going to LOCK MYSELF IN THE SEWING ROOM and only come out to refill my coffee cup, and to throw another load in the laundry. Really need to get going on my Christmas Blocks and Calendar blocks!

Have a great day everybody!

Good morning!

Kathy - sorry it's so stinking hot. Good luck today with the ruler and whatever else you find to do. Hope it cools off soon...

Maryz - interesting name for a tea. Did it do the job?

Mary/Rose - wow you must have been really tired! Best of luck in your job hunt. I don't think I could have lifted 50 pounds once I was past 35...

Lois - I know it will be sad when the DGKs leave - they sure have a way of filling a house with love and laughter. I want to go see that movie too! A pool dance sounds really neat.

Suzette - good luck at the doctor this morning. The towelette thing sounds like a great idea. Too hot to swim is TOO hot.

Lori - I hope this iron does good by you. I'm saving up to buy one like Cindyg has. I bet the snowball is fabulous in 1800s fabric!

VIcky - love your new flatware! That's funny about the chickens - guess it's too hot for them as well. My goodness - I bet eight yards would take up the whole washer. I love that verse...

Judi - how annoying about the fabric - hope it's there waiting for you when you go back. What movie is Ken going to see?

Chriss - happy vacation day eve! It's almost here - yippee!!! And you get to start it off with a haircut. It is indeed a good day to be you. I hope you can post a pic of Miss M's room. Our vet told us they ripped out all their carpet because his significant other has bad asthma - he said he's never breathed better.

Gabriele - thank goodness the headache is gone. Good luck with your elves!

Cindyg - oh NO! How long was your power off? Sure hope your house wasn't too hot. Good luck with the new computer - whenever I got one it seemed they always left something off.

DS1 came over for dinner last night. He usually doesn't get home until 8, but he was in a car accident on Monday (someone clipped him on the interstate) and he had a doctors appt to get his back checked out. We took the girlies to the aquarium downtown and had a blast - it was 100 when we got out. Woohoo!! Well here they are for breakfast so I must run. xoxo! Sharona

Maryq - sorry to stomp on you. Lock the door and throw away the key, I say!

Good morning, good morning,
Like others have said, this heat wave has a couple more days in it. I'm surprised that it hasn't bothered me more - I usually do not do well in heat, but this hasn't been bad - of course, I'm not outside working in it. I honestly don't know how people in the south survive though! Can you imagine living there in the 1700's-1800's with all those layers of clothing?! David likes to say we are wimps today, but I point out that we also are living longer.

I have some carpet to shampoo this afternoon and may see if Victoria is available as I found some sleeveless maternity shirts for her. They are not really her style, but I think your 'style' goes out the door when you're pregnant in exchange for clothes that fit and are comfortable.

We've been eating the peaches off our tree and they are wonderful! I can't believe they are still there - in years past the tree gets picked clean almost overnight. We don't spray our trees so we cut into any fruit before taking a bite, but for the most part there have not been bugs. This means the apples and pears are probably going to be great also!

Sharona - have fun with those granddaughters!

Miriam - I would have tried your jam! That does sound good.

Chriss - Have a Happy Vacation!

Stay cool everyone,
Karlene

Good morning!

It will be hot here too - but what else is new? LOL We are reaching the 100 mark again and most of the moisture has moved east from us - so it is not so unbearable.

Normal day as usual for here - Ethan will come in a few minutes - Stu is working. Sarah wants us to bring the boys down to her office - she is doing a company picnic for dinner with her employees. So we shall see if we drive them that far, or just feed them here.

I am hoping to make friends again with the sewing machine - I can use a pair of scissors again - the handle went right over the sore spot on my finger, but that is healed now.

time to scoot

Have a great day
Hugs
Jana

Morning!!

I tried to sleep in but a trash truck had other ideas for me. I'm happy this heat is coming to an end...storms tomorrow. I might look around for a movie.

Maryz...yes, it's El's flying geese ruler. I was waiting for my LQS to get a different one in..I forgot someone gave me this.

Mary/rose....hope you heat breaks soon. Prayers you DH finds work soon so you don't need to.

Lois...when I read you post my eyes filled with tears. We in the 'far away Gramma Club' know your sadness. It's a wonderful thing when children love to read.

Suzette.....was it too hot for the pool? I need to go to CVS today I'll look for Yes to Cucumbers....thanks.

Lori...sleep well!!

Vicky....love the flatware. I like simple too.

Judi....good luck with getting more fabric....i'm sure they didn't sell it all out.

Chriss....happy vacation starting day to you!!!!!!! I just know you'll enjoy your time.

Gabriele....your Christmas things were wonderful. I would be proud to receive any of them...I'm sure you loved ones will too. Are they for this Christmas?

Cindy....ne power? Going out was a good idea! How lucky to have a geek of you own.

Maryq....I was thinking of making a set of geese from whatever I.m sewing with. Something scrappy.

My sister just called & invited me over to her A/C house! After errands I'm going there.

Love & Prayers....Kathy

I have a question for Maryz and Miriam, or anyone who has lost a husband. This week is the 1 year anniversary since our friend died suddenly. It there anything meaningful/helpful that I can do for his wife (also our friend)? Was there anything someone did for you that was thoughtful?

Sharona - my girls loved the aquarium! We spent a long time petting the stingrays!

Kathy: Sorry you are having trouble with sleeping. As for flying geese rulers: I really want
To get the one’s that Eleanor sells. I have just not gone and spent the money for them. I really should do it soon.
Maryz: You said you have the geese rulers, do you use them often? I was afraid if I spent the money on them, they would be sitting here and only get used once in a while??? Need to just make up my mind, right?
Lois: Sounds like you had fun with the Gkids.
Suzette: the cucumber face cloths sound great. Sometimes, I just have to get a wash cloth and wet it with cool water and wash over my face. It helps a lot.
Lori: I have had lots of trouble over the years finding an iron that I could be happy with. Seems I am too cheap to spend the money for a good one. When we went to full timing, I got rid of my old iron because it was so heavy and it was sooooo old. Bought a new one, real cheap, and that is just what I got: REAL CHEAP!!! The dog gone steam feature only works when I can fiddle with it and get it to work. Husband was ready to just buy me a good one, but I won’t let him spend the money.
But it might just turn up under our Christmas tree this year LOL, as I think he is tired of hearing me complain about the darn thing, every time I am sewing quilt blocks.
Vicky: Your flatware is really sharp! I bet you are so happy with it.
Judi: Oh I just hate it when I cut something wrong!! Especially when you are doing a project for someone special. I really feel sorry for you. I feel your pain.

Chriss: Hope you enjoy your hair cut. It always makes a person feel brand new!!! Enjoy!

Gabriel: Can’t believe you are hoping for warmer weather in NM. Wow, do you like the heat or what?? In Illinois, it is so humid, that even the mid 80’s is miserable. This week we are in the 90’s and heat index it about 105. Air is so heavy, you feel like you could cut it with a knife.

Cindyg: Hope you enjoy your new ‘puter. Bet you hated it when you had power out, in the middle of summer heat!!!
Maryq: Enjoy PAY DAY!! Shop til you drop!!

Karlene: yum, peaches from the tree. Sounds great.

Not much on my own agenda for today. A girl friend from the campground and I went to the pool yesterday just for some cool exercise. Going to meet again this morning. We go early before the pool water gets so warm. It is more refreshing in the morning hours. After that, I am going to stay inside with the A/C. I need to get ther sewing machine out, but don’t know if I will or not.
I am planning to try cooking a pork tenderloin on the burner of our grill. That way I won’t heat up the RV. Hope I can pull it off. I have not done this before, but it should work OK. Planning to make pulled pork sandwiches for dinner tonight. Then left overs for lunches over the weekend.

Makes me hungry just thinking about it.

Have a great day, doing fun things. For all of you working, hope you have fun after work. : )

Hugs
Velda

I’m here for a quick look, then I need to go get a shower… I’ve been out watering, and it is hot and humid already here.

Kathy & MaryZ—hope you got some snooze last night. I use El’s flying geese rulers exclusively now that I have them. Much more accurate!

Karlene—I saw your note… Most people never noticed. I think a “Thinking of You” card might be nice. My sister and I went to San Francisco for the anniversary (to get away), and unfortunately to go tell my best friend good bye as she passed three weeks later from a very invasive, fast-growing, inoperable brain tumor. My DH passed on Mother’s Day (also my half birthday), so it’s always a reminder for me.

I can’t stand myself while sitting here… I’m going for the shower first then will try to get back here…

Have a great day!!! You East Coasters—try to keep cool or keep your cool! I feel your misery, except this is normal for us.
