CHRISS - glad you enjoyed your class. Now you have sewing homework. And you know, you HAVE to do your homeowrk! I use my ruler for measuring when I cut. It's more accurate. I used to use my mat, but had problems with things being off by a thread or two.

Suz - enjoy your studio today.
Mel - I started a Judy Neimeyer quilt. It was the first time I'd ever done paper piecing and I realized I should have started with something easier. I really need to finish the JN quilt and get it off my design wall.
Teresa - well, aren't you going to share the bias binding formula - and include the instructions, too? I love McKenna Ryan's stuff. I think it's the soft colors.
Lois - have fun with your hexies addiction.
We - thanks for the link.
Chriss - I mostly use my mat for cutting, occasionally my ruler, and sometimes my "shape cut" ruler. The hexie addiction is exactly why I will never start making them.
Maryz - I heard that nurses never eat the food that people bring them. This from a nurse in MS. I guess the nurses up there are more trusting. Yesterday we had a drizzly/sprinkly day all day and the weatherman last night said we were having Seattle weather. Thought about you. Oh, goodness, when I'm cutting I try to be as accurate as I can be but I do not count threads. Somehow my quilts come out OK.
I finished the applique on the second block last night and got the next log cabin block put together. Now to cut out and prepare the next appliques. Gotta get a load of clothes out of the dryer and fix dinner after I stop at the pharmacy after work today.
I hope we can all fondle some fabric today.

What a night for not sleeping. I was to Boing, boing, and then when I did start to fall asleep the noaa radio went off-3 times. There appears to be some serious flooding going on. That reminds me, if any of you watch the news and here them talking about a nursing home surrounded by water in ogle county in northern Illinois, that's us. The property is next to where my uncle and aunt lived. I remember that field having popcorn growing in it. That's been a loonngggg time.
The rain continues and one of the stone walls in my sewing room is very wet now. The floor in the bedroom above that spot is wet also. The plaster ceiling above that wall is looking rough. The fabric and important things aren't near there. will be moving the bag of dog food. We have more rain coming in today. Yesterday we were to get 5 inches or so, but I don't think anyone here has checked the rain gauge.
Did you see the post in chit chat where little Cadence is in need of prayer?
Well, today will be my last day here for a few days. I do wish all of you were able to join us for a fun weekend with El and shopping. I will bbl. I think a couple of the gals will have their lap tops with them, so you may hear from some of us.
Take care, stay safe, thinking of all of you.
Sandy, needing to get things done..and find some fabric scraps..

Good morning all! Well, we had a wild weather night in Oklahoma last night! Hail, storms, wind & tornados! I think the whole state was in a uproar one way or another! I think though everyone is safe, no injuries, just property damage.
Wow! Everyone is so busy! I'm jealous! I just sit in my sewing room & sort my scraps...I've got about 7 boxes yet to do, but I have to say, that I am ready to start some scrappy quilt projects! Does anyone have any recommendations for patterns, books that have scrappy projects in them?
Well, better get back to work, will check in later!
Sending hugs & prayers to all!

Hi Everyone,
Just checking in..... been busy, had computer problems (oh what a headache that was) then I found out that I can't use my KodakEasyShare program anymore which really upsets me, as I have tons of pictures on it but it won't let me email them to my inbox like I used to do. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions????? HELP?????? please.
We have had storms up our way too but no tornadoes thank goodness, the rain was great we needed that so bad am thankful for that, had some hail but not any damage in our area that I know of.
Been working on my sewing room again, DH bought me some nice sturdy shelves from Home Depot the other day so am emptying out boxes and putting fabric on shelves least this way I can see what I got and I can tell you it is way to much!!!!! Still trying to get all the charity quilts quilted so I can try and finish up some of the projects I've started (found several in boxes that were out of sight out of mind.)
Prayers going up for those in need.
Hope everyone has a great day........try to fondle cotton today!

Good Morning Girls
Yes there is a fine layer of snow on my yard this morning... or is it just ice! In any case, it's white out there! The roads look dry so at least I'm not in a panic about getting to work! tomorrow may be another story! This is definitely the winter that never ends. Working late shift today, so think I'll putter around in the sewing room a bit this morning...Or I could crawl back into my nice warm bed.
Teresa...many prayers for safe travel for Courtney. Wouldn't it be a hoot if she had to time to meet Jules in London? How long will she there? Color me green too! Maybe this morning I'll go down and do a little stash diving to find my reds and blues for May... When I was off work on Tuesday I put my March lotto blocks together... just need to find the perfect border for it.
Chriss... Can't say I've ever gotten into Survivor... not much for reality shows, tho I do like The Amazing Race. I use my matt for measuring, but then I think I cut kind of backwards... my length of fabric goes to the left of where I cut, then I cut along the right side edge of the ruler. That's the only way it seems natural to me to do it. But I have seen tutorials where they cut with the length of fabric on the right.
Cindyg... I saw on the news about the explosion near Waco last nite.. The pictures looks awful. I'll have to check my map to see how close you are to Waco... I'm thinking you are pretty far away.
Traci... have you ever gone to this web site?
http://quiltville.com/index.html'>http: ... index.html
LOTS of great scrap ideas there. I may take a break from knitting baby hats at night and bring up a box of my scraps to sort while I watch TV. Or maybe when my room mate moves I can get her to help me LOL.
Sandy... hope you have the GREATEST time in Paducah!!! Will be anxious to hear all about it when you get back!
Maryz... good news that Jim is extubed. I'm sure the nurses will love your brownies!! I imagine he'll have to have some PT when he gets home? Good sign that's he anxious to go home.
Tina... you will definitely be in my prayers in the days ahead and hope that they find your lumps are just cysts and can be easily removed.
Lois... oh dear, you've gotten addicted to Hexies too!! Someday I'll have to get somebody to show me how to do them... like I need another "addiction"
Mel... Sorry you didn't win the lottery... me either so I'll be heading off to work here soon too. One of these days I'll like to take a class in paper piecing... if nothing else just to see if I would like to do it.
Pat... bummer that your photo share won't work! Can you uninstall and re install it? Computers are wonderful things.. but they can sure be a pain in the you know where. Every time I try to go to FB but going through Internet Explorer, my computer totally locks up. I have to sign into AOL first.. Not that I go to FB a lot, just to play Words with Friends!
Well, I have 2 hours to play before I have to get in the shower, so I am going to take advantage of it and head down to the sewing room.
Hope everybody has a terrific sewing day!

Good morning!
A quick note on using your mat or ruler - the mats are printed on a roller type of machine and the lines on them can be off by just a little or a lot. The lines can be off from inch to inch and over the mat, that can make a big difference. So in all of the classes that I have taken or taught -they teach - use your ruler for the strip measurements. You can use the lines on the mat to straighten your edge and to line up your fabrics - but always use the measurements on your ruler. Even El stressed this in the Teacher Training class at QIAD. OK - that is my soap box! LOL I have found this be so true - my strips are much more accurate when I use the ruler.
Ethan is much better today - eating like there is no tomorrow! He got hungry last night and was running around like normal. Most of the day yesterday, he sat in my lap and just wanted to be rocked.
I am taking down my class samples and description today - need to get the cars smogged checked to re-register them both, and my Thursday uglies done.
Chriss - you will get all the credit about those hexies! LOL
Well need to scoot -
Hugs
Jana
