Momof6----Don't think---JUST JOIN!!! We are planning on having lots of fun sharing pictures and ideas. You Tube videos are very helpful and gets me out of some mishaps I must admit. This quilt is a perfect project to practice quilting skills we haven't mastered yet. With the girls here, we will be talked through any problem that may arise. I promise that none of the blocks are that difficult..

I thought we could start with some of the more simple block first--then throw in blocks that have a variety of different quilting methods. Maybe applique this week and paper piecing the next and etc. We will try having at least one simple block per week. That will lessen the time needed to complete the 3 blocks.

The IT word??? Doesn't exist at my house anymore. DH has given up(hiding face and laughing). If I complete most of my UFO'S, I don't worry...Besides I will finish them someday...Maybe?

Well I really like this quilt...might have to think about it...I don't have the book but I have read all the Elm Creek Books twice.

Hi all,

I am not part of this sew-a-long; however, I wanted to post a link to a paper-piecing tutorial that really helped me. Also, I wanted to say that I would not be successful at paper-piecing without the add-a-quarter ruler, which you will see being used on this tutorial. It truly made huge difference for me. There is a "lip" on the ruler that fits over the fold-back card and pattern so you won't have any cutting mishaps like you might if you were just using a regular ruler. I originally bought the 12" ruler, but I went back and got the 6" ruler as well. I have found the smaller ruler to be of much more use. Anyway, I hope you find these links useful. Have fun...can't wait to see pics!

I have decided that I am making mine with a black background and BRIGHTS!!!! So out of my box, it will be different and exciting.

Ok my question is this, does one use bright jewel tonals with batiks? Or do I stick with one or the other?

Motherof6 Go for both. My delima is background. I am not buying any fabric for this one so it may be a mixture of white and creams. Will have to see what turns up.

Mine will me a mixture of whatever I pull out of the stash. I really thought of a grab bag quilt. Did that once and it was so hard for us that like to dwell over our fabric choices:) Its where you put color families in a bag: you reach in and use what you pull out. Interesting and amazing at same time. Fabrics you would never think would go together turn out pretty nice. My last one is a UFO needs borders and blocks sewn together still.

Got to use some of this stash up.:)

billizzy- I have been collecting brights forever. They just sit in my stash looking pretty, it's time they get into a project :-) I will have to get some black background fabric and then decided if I'm using the same black for the backgrounds of the blocks and the sashing.

I plan to make all the blocks except one. I will find a different block to replace the one with the two people holding hands. I don't like that block so I will replace it.

Thats funny you mentioned that one. I was changing it too. I am doing a farmer and sunbonnet sue with a goat for that block to represent DH and me and farm:)) I just have to downsize my templates I made farmer before with goat for one of our teen quilts we made at church for our graduates.
