I like this better than monthly swap also. I used to do the monthly swap a few years ago, but quit when I moved out in the boondocks. 4 times a year sound good to me. I will sign up. How much do we spend on his one?

Vinae, I don't suggest spending a boatload of money on this swap.. everyone's budget is different...use your best judgement after examining your budget situation.

the idea is to cut costs by going quarterly..... you could send home made things like candy, cookies, pot holders etc.... or store bought things like patterns, fabric, or you could send a package of note cards...

a note or letter about yourself is always nice.. the main idea is to get a surprise in the mail...

I will also get a new list of hints started.. I will ask that it be stuck to the top...and that all old hints be removed... please pm me if you want something to be listed in the hints that isn't already there...

I think this will be fun if we all follow the rules and make it fun.

I love the quarterly idea - and the idea of having emergency contacts!!!

We used to have a list at QIAD office of those that wanted to share with Linda their addresses, just in case of emergencies. Now that I've moved from tornado country to hurricane country, I really appreciate it!!! And, like Mary says, if you live alone, it's nice to know someone out there is checking up on you!!

Denise, let me know what else I will need to do to tempt you... hope you join...you have about two months to think it over.

Cindy...I had forgotten about Linda's list.. not sure how current it is... any information I get won't be shared with anyone. Other than swapping names for the exchange, my lips are sealed...

I am not sure how often we have even used Linda's list when she had it... thankfully people didn't go missing often.

Chriss - Some great ideas I see.
A request please ... Can you hold off on asking for the hints page to be removed to soon. This way Pals can cut and paste there hints into yours first avoiding lots of retyping for us that have weak fingers. Also there are lots of names on the hints page from Pals not in the SP's that might like there hints to stay.
I did already have the threads removed that I started that had anything to do with the SP's (January's and the Rules and Standards) so as not to be confusing with your new ones.
Just a thought and suggestion ... Thanks

Teresa, since we will have some new and some of the old questions on the hints page my plan wasn't to remove it but to un-hook it from staying at the top.. that way anyone wanting to look at the old notes can.....

but I won't be doing anything just yet, the swap doesn't start till Feb...

Chriss,
I like your ideas and the idea of a "tough ship." I know we all have Life Issues happen, but the key here is communication with you.

And if we know that we have a "friend" that can communicate if we can't, all the better, we'll be covered.

I was in the monthly secret pals for several years, several years ago. Frankly I stopped because of some of the problems you've addressed and also because I always felt that I hadn't sent enough when I saw what others had sent to their Pals and also to me. I was trying to stick to the amount specified, but always seemed to be outdone. I know others have more resources than I do since I am retired on a very fixed income and that i wasn't singled out. but i still felt that my pal was shorted and probably felt that way.

one thought, certainly open for discussion, or to be ignored, perhaps we could just thank our Pal and acknowledge that we have received the gift and not list what we received. just a thought.

i'm inticed by the "new rules" and will seriously think about joining this year.

thanks, carol/kittyquilt

Carol... one time you had me as your secret pal... it was some time ago and to be honest I can't remember what the gift was that you gave me... what I do remember, and I have thought of quite a few times while coming up with ideas for this swap, was the wonderful letter you wrote full of pictures of not only you but of your home... you shared your interests, and other information about yourself.. it was the letter I treasured much more than the gift...

all this time later... and I don't remember what you sent me but I can still remember taht letter.

Chriss sounds like a great idea and I would love to join, mainly because I know you are a fabulous swap host, I love the tight ship ruinning of your swaps and I think all your proposals are fair and just......the only reason I will hold off with joining is because of postage fees......I don't mind posting overseas but with rising postage costs I know it can be tough for some people.....but I really just wanted to say that i love the idea of a quarterly swap, love that you will host and love the guidelines you have propsed that really are only there to help and protect everyone included from being let down....I know you'll do a fantastic job :)
