Background fabric

Post by lyntongal »

Hello I am new here and although I have not done much quilting I have decided to complete a quilt my Mother started (she passed away 4 years ago). The quilt is "Irish Chain" and she used to buy the fabric direct from Eleanor Burns and she used to buy the fabric as shown in the books, this being a blue, yellow and cream designXX
Anyway I don't think she bought enough of the Cream Background Fabric... will I be able to buy this fabric now? Will they still stock it?
I am using my Mum's sewing machine, iron and ironing board and I can feel her watching me making lots of mistakes :)
However I am really enjoying doing this and would really like to complete it, so I am sure I will be asking many questions!!

Chances are slim in trying to match after this long but if you call customer service they may be able to make arrangements for you to send a scrap and see if they can match.

Contacting QIAD customer service would be my first try. They are super friendly and helpful! Good luck!

Thank you for your replies - I have now emailed the Customer Service department so fingers crossed.
I have completed the 32 coloured blocks and now require the background fabric to complete the other blocks. Its so annoying as I have really enjoyed getting stuck into this :)

I ran into a similar problem a few years back. What I did was finally alternate the backgrounds with a new introduced fabric that was similar in color but container a slight cream on cream flower print. It worked out beautifully and the alternated blocks held the overall quilt design together. This is a tatic I use when restoring 1930's quilts.
