Should I wash my fabric first???

Post by ddanielson »

I am making this ruffled shower curtain that goes on the outside of shower, and this is the fabric I plan to use it is 100% cotton I kno cotton shrinks so should I make it bigger by how much??? or should I wash the fabric first so the shrinking has taken place before I sew it?

I would wash it. For quilting I usually don't wash my fabric but that is because I will be quilting it and I like the look of the wrinkled quilted fabric. For curtains and such I always wash it first.
Very pretty fabric by the way!

I don't think you need to wash if it's on the outside. It should be fine. Love your fabric. Lori

Hi, I would wash it first so that way it will be the right size after it's washed again, it would be a shame to make such a beautiful thing and it only look nice when you first use it and if it shrunk a lot after it was made you would probably be upset...I would anyway. I hope this helps :o)

I vote to wash it. This avoids potential problems later.
