forgive me for being naive but what is the difference between "regular" fusible and "fusible only"?

there is a fusible that is paper backed.. you iron it on to what you want to applique, then you peel the paper and it leaves a sticky side that you can iron onto your background piece.... it leaves a more blunt edge... it's called Wonder Under or Heat N Bond

there is a fusible web that you trace your pattern on then sew it onto your fabric, trim and turn inside out, iron it onto your background and it sticks long enough for you to sew it down.. leaves a more rounded edge, it comes in many thicknesses and is usually a brand name called Pellon....

both work wonderfully..

My favorite fusible is Steam a Seam - it comes in a regular and a light - I use the light for my applique projects - it holds and then I use a blanket stitch around it that is on my machine.

The regular is heavier than I like - but if you don't want to stitch around the applique - the regular will bond permanently.

It also does not gum up your needle as you stitch through it.
