Re: DEAR JANE QUILT - (where Janiacs go to post!)
I just had to come 'visit' all the beautiful blocks to keep my inspiration alive. I see my "Jane" box every day in my sewing room closet. But other projects and life events always seem to take precedence. BUT! Just yesterday I finished my other "lifetime" quilting project and now Jane is my only WIP I have left. But within minutes of finishing my Alaskan Sampler yesterday a pattern that I ordered for a Christmas quilt for my DD arrived. So I'll soon be off and running on that! But I'll not be forgetting my Jane!

Dear Janiacs I have a couple of questions. I have gotten her back out and want to start in again. I got derailed with other things. What I want to know is if anyone of you have purchased the Software for Dear Jane and was it helpful? I am thinking about getting it but wanted some reviews from you first. My other question is how do you work with making the templates because the book does not lay flat. I am open to any suggestions you have. Thanks for your help.

SHERRY - I've never felt I needed the software. There is a website - see the opening of this thread. I actually haven't gone there either, but I think it gives you all the info you need.
If you can't get your book to lay flat, you could take it to an office supply store like Kinko's and have them put it in a spiral binding for you.

I don't use the software either. I use the site on the computer and it has worked out well for me. I am almost done with the blocks. Still need to do all the border blocks. She is in the motor home and will work on her along the way.

Thanks for the comments.
purrfect-lady - Thanks for the suggestion about the book. I took it to Office Max yesterday and they put a spiral in it for me. It only took a couple of hours to get it back and now it lays flat. That was a great suggestion. I have a couple of other books that I think I will take and have done. Thanks again.
As far as the software I think I will pass for now and just go to the web-site.

SHERRY - glad that idea worked out for you! I better try that with some of my own books! Did the spiral get in the way of any of the text of the book? and how much did it cost?
CAROLE - you are almost done with your blocks??? I better get a wiggle on! You and Jane are hitting the road again! My Jane and I are usually only together when we're on the road, too, but we have no road plans for this summer. (Alaska got cancelled for a variety of reasons). Maybe Jane will be my summer companion.

Maryz - I checked first thing and none of the patterns are covered by the spiral so that is great. The author must have known that some people would do what I did and left enough room on the left side. The best part is it only cost $5.00 to have it done. The spiral piece is a very heavy duty one not those skinny silver ones that are on school notebooks. I am definately taking a few of my other books in and have it done to them. Thanks again for the suggestion.

Sherry, that's great! And now that I've let you 'go first' and you've reported back that it's not a bank breaker, I think I should go get some of my books spiraled, too! Some of my favorites are really falling apart. Thanks!!

I'm almost finished with my Alaskan Sampler quilt and DJ was the only WIP left on my work table. Then I got a call last night that the fabric I want for my DD's Christmas quilt came in and it's already going fast. So I better go get that. Jane may have to wait another quilt. Poor Jane.

Poor Jane is going to have an inferiority complex by the time we all get her made. We drink when we work on her, we shove her in closets and in boxes. We "put her away" to make other quilts. No wonder she gets so cantankerous.
