Hi from Oklahoma, in the center of the heartland. Hey, Jody! Glad you're getting back into your DJ! How is your sis doing with hers? Perhaps she'd like to join the QIAD forum and post pictures and progress reports, too? I prefer to prewash all my fabrics. They come into the house through the garage and go right into the laundry room to be washed. THEN they go upstairs to the sewing room. I don't bother ironing them until I cut them, because they'll just get wrinkled again as I fold them and tuck them into my stash. But I think the main thing is to make sure all your fabrics are the same - washed or not. Today's fabrics don't shrink much. But I found I'm sensitive to the sizing in new fabrics. So I wash it out ASAP.

JACQUIE - you and your blocks are as amazing as always!

I have my DJ along with me, but so far haven't gotten her out. I have 4 different projects along but haven't landed anywhere long enough to even get out the sewing machine! So for now I'm just working on a counted cross stitch and some teen, tiny hexies. But next week, maybe we'll settle down and I'll set up my sewing "room" in this trailer.

Hi, y'all! I've been in Texas for 2 months and will be here another 2 weeks. After finishing all my other quilty projects I brought along, I'm finally getting around to Jane again. I spent all morning on one block (I think it was A-12. I'm not making them in order but by whim.). But I'm not happy with my result, so I think I'll try it again today. What an investment this quilt is! 2 days for one block! I think this is my 57th block. This is the first time I've let Jane out of the box since last Feb!

So is anyone else making any progress? I hope you're moving faster than I am!!

As soon as I get home from visiting the kids, Jane is coming out also. I need to get on the triangles. Mary, give me a heads up when you get close to Quartsite, so we can make plans to come there to visit you.

I tried to do a DJ applique of tear drops. It turned out very wonky and ugly. I do not know if I should leave it for character or re-do the entire applique stitching. I was trying applique needleturn. Now, I have done needleturn successful on other DJ quilt blocks; but not on these teardrops. There are 4 teardrops and I have completed 3. I think I will try freezer applique on the last teardrop and see if I can get a better shape. I am a beginner appliquer. DJ is my first project that I have ever appliqued on.

I have not been online because I have not been working on DJ except for the above and since my last post when i had such great plans. Then I undertook a Judy Neimeyer foundation piecing Glacier Star Quilt class and it has kept me very busy sewing. foundation piecing is definitely not quilt in a day. but i love them both and I am having fun with it.

Have a Great Day,
Jodydearjane

CAROLE - we'll be in touch! Travel safe! I broke 70 DJ's today!

JODI - Personally, I think you should let the 'wonky' block stay. Or at least pin a note to it and put it in your stack. If, when you're done, it still bugs you, then redo it. But given that they are only 4.5" blocks and there are 225 of then, I'm thinking a small flaw won't be standing out. At least, I'm counting on it! I have several that just aren't my best work. But I'm counting on them melding into the quilt and looking fine. If they don't, I'll deal with them later! lol!

Wow, though. Doing a J.N. AND a D.J. at the same time. You are really a glutton for intensity! You sew, girl!!

My 'DONE' stack is now 80 high! Yay! I decided that I want to know the name of each block, i.e., A-3 or C-12, etc. So I finally figured out I could use a fabric marker and write them in the seam allowance. Better than pinning little notes, which is what I WAS doing. It's probably a little early to be planning my lay-out, but I'm thinking I'll arrange my blocks just as the original Jane did and let the colors fall where they may. Usually, I'm very picky about the arrangement of my scrappy blocks, putting them with neighbors that play nice, color-wise.

I've been asked where I got my DJ book. DH got it from me and he thinks he ordered it from Amazon. Where did everyone else reading this thread get theirs? Have you ever seen it at Joann's?
