Jacquie, Love your colors!!! You are doing such an awesome job on those tiny blocks. I love the bright colors, but I am doing mine in the colors of the original which I think was civil war fabric. Now I need to get back to making them. Hard when my computer is downstairs and I sew upstairs. I know, I know, take the computer upstairs. LOL
Okay I will - next week. LOL

i think the original is lovely in the civil war theme... apparently she didn't use the same fabric twice, in the whole quilt!! imagine that!!!
phew!!!

girls, don't forget to look at this site for tutorials for each block!!
such a great help, when you come across a block that makes you stop and stare at it, and just scratch your head in wonder!! lol....

Jacquie, I am going to also try not to use the same fabric more than once. But who knows if that will happen. LOL

Hi, This is a fascinating thread. I enjoy watching what all you are doing with these cute little blocks. As I scrolled down thru the Website for the block instructions, I can think of some much simpler ways to do things.

Some of these have so many complicated pieces that could be put together easier by reverse appique. Cut out the entire top design exactly and carefully as shown and lay the piece you cut them out of over a full block and applique it that way. You won't have all those tiny pieces to deal with. If you back the back full block with some batting, it will still stand out. When I get settled in my house in March I am going to try it that way. Just a thought but I always look for a diff way to do things. LOL

As for all the flying geese ones, I love to use the one seam flying geese method. I have used El's rulers and I like those too but just depends on how many and what you need them for which method I use.

I also think El's method of stitching an applique to a backing and then turning right side would certainly make all those millions of melons easier to applique. They would look much neater too and not so much tedious time and work involved.

See I am thinking. Keep working on this ladies so I have lots of pics to look at when I get ready to do this. I would never do a whole Dear Jane quilt but some of these blocks would be pretty in a table runner or lap quilt. Thanks for sharing all your remarks and pics.

Hugs, Shirley Mae

Jacquie, I just saw your blocks too. Guess I hadn't seen that before. They are sure are pretty in the Rainbow Jane colors you chose.

Are you all following the same tutorials or using a book or what? Some I can just wing it but others look very complicated. The blog you posted sure goes into details. I wonder what El would do with some of these. I know she could really simplify some of them.

Thanks ladies for posting your pics. I am enjoying it so much.

Hugs, Shirley Mae

shirley mae, those are great ideas, and give me lots of 'food for thought'...
i must admit, i have done some blocks my own way, rather than the tutorial's, as i thought my was was easier.
projects like these give the 'grey matter' a workout sometimes :c)

I love the DJ quilt. About 5 years ago our LQS had a DJ class. You had to commit for a year. Well I committed to it but I hate to say I never finished my blocks. I am going to dig them out and post pics of the ones I DID finish.

sharon, you can carry on with us if you like! we'd love for you to join us, it would be such a shame for them to return to a drawer and never be completed!!!!!

Yesterday I started working on a block (think it was B6) OMG it looks real good in the trash. Some of these blocks takes twice to get them right. Guess you can not start them until you have plenty of time and patience. What was Jane on????? She was a woman that was either really, really bored or maybe just sick. LOL Of course, what does that say about all of us????? LOL
