seminole border for double irish chain
I just finished the double irish chain top from the show. My finished blocks are 10". The top is 5 squares by 7 squares which equals to 68"x48". On the show El says to make the center strip 3 3/8" and the side strips 3 3/4" for the seminole and the 9 patch corners 4 1/2" strips but I'm not sure if those measurements will square up with my top. Can anyone help a 6'6" 280 lb new quilter whose embarassed to ask questions at the fabric store?

I don't have the answer to your questions, I just wanted to say - Never Never Never be afraid to ask questions at the fabric store. My LQS has the most helpful people working there. As I go in the door, if I don't have a smile on my face, the first words out of someone's mouth is: "Jo, whats wrong, bring it over here and lets see." I explain my problem and they figure out how to fix it. I pay for it and all is well in the quilting world. Go back to the fabric store and ask them. Or make a mock-up out of stash scraps and see if it fits. I've done that before, too, as I had changed the size of the blocks and the borders and needed some embroidered corner squares to fit.

Is there a reason you WANT it square? Most quilts are rectangular. Usually longer than they are in width. There are some queen sized ones that are made square, but I don't like them on my bed. So, maybe that is the answer to your question. Maybe it not supposed to be square???
