Hi, I was wondering if anyone can help me with appliqueing the Dressdan Plate that is in Egg Money Quilts? I have never appliqued with a blind hem stitch on a machine and so I am doing it by hand, except I don't like the way it looks. Any help would be appreciated.
I just got Egg Money Quilts and have decided to do all the blocks in there. Then I am going to make a quilt out of them for my best friend, Lowell. I figure by the time I get all the easy ones done I'll be ready to tackle the harder ones.

Thanks,
Bonita

I have a blanket stitch on my sewing machine and it works really well for applique work. I like it so much more than the blind hem - looks better too. I have done it in black as well as invisable thread - or use one that matches - they all work.

If you are doing hand applique work - use a very fine thread - it will disappear into the seam that you are sewing down. Also don't pull to tight - that will cause puckers.

Another trick is to cut the background piece that you are appliqueing to about an inch bigger than what they tell you - the applique will cause it to shrink up as you stitch.

Good luck
Jana

Hi- my name is Susan and I just got serious about learning to quilt..I have been sewing 35 years, but as you all know, quilting is a whole different animal! I have a new machine that I need to learn to use before I start pestering you with questions. Just wanted to say hi and I can't wait to get started.
