Width of fabric

Width of fabric
im new to quilting and im a little confused about how to measure the width of my fabric. is it the measurement of the amount of yards you purchase or is it the measurement of how wide it is from each white edge?

it is measured from salvage to salvage

each white edge as you say, the factory finished edge
