My family has just found a beautiful bedspread cover that my grandmother hand embroidered in about 1930. It is in excellent condition but is basically just a quilt top with finished edges.
I would love to make it into a quilt to help preserve it - but would that be advisable?
Also is there any thing I should use to help preserve it?
Any help would be great - I would love to keep this heirloom looking great for many years to come.
I'll try to add pics of the top soon so you know what I am talking about.

Re: Old embroidered top???
A quilt would be lovely!
First - don't keep it in a plastic bag or anything plastic - my suggestion would be to roll it - folds makes creases and that is where they start to deteriorate - then keep it in a pillow case so that the fabric can breathe. You can even roll it around acid free tissue paper - wadded up to pad out the top -
I would be very aware of the content of the batt and the backing fabric - so that they are too acid -free when I made it into a quilt.
You have a wonderful family treasure - one that you will enjoy for many years to come.
Loooking forward to seeing it

I would hand quilt it. Thats what I did with an antique quilt that was given to me and I love it.

Could have been intended for a table cloth. My mother had a couple of those. Such beautiful work.
