Re: MapleLeaf Swap - Marcy?
I got 12 cut and sewed on Saturday, with the intention of finishing the other 12 on Sunday. Well, if you cut creatively, you can get 12 blocks out of 1 yard of batiks. Of course this means that you also have to be able to figure out and know how many 4-1/2" squares you need. The fabric I cut on Saturday worked perfectly. On Sunday, the 36 4-12" squares turned into 24 4-1/2" squares. To make a long story short, I had to piece fabric to make the squares for the remaining 3 blocks. I know, everyone has said that you can mix the batiks to make them look more fally (is that a word?), but I didn't want to waste the 3-1/2" strip that I had left. But, I will keep those blocks for myself so no one will get the really, really, really ugly blocks. Hopefully, I can finish the other 12 blocks this week and post a picture on Monday. Have to work OT Monday and Tuesday and then a funeral on Thursday evening and then we are to the weekend. Yippee!!

UHM, "fally" could be a word. I too got a full 12 blocks out of my first yard of batik and then the second one I am short two stems. I have a darker cream batik I am going to try and make work, otherwise, back to the drawing board.

Hmmm - I wonder why the difference between the yards? Any clues?

The difference is likely in the original measure by whoever does the cutting and then when you wash, the difference in the shrinkage, etc. Some of my fbrics are really straight even after washing, and others I loose a few inches when straightening.

Ok, so I asked Jen if she would like to make some blocks, so she could get her own supply back....she made a "face" guess that's a NO vote from jen!!! LOL
I even showed her Tina's gorgeous blocks!!! couldn't sway her!!
So I guess we won't count on HER!!! BUT I ordered a few more batiks from CT and am anxiously waiting for them to arrive! I might just make a few more for the heck of it!
HI HO It's off to work I go!
