Quilt Labels
I have a quilt finished and I need to know how to attach a quilt label to the back of the quilt. I have a bunch of labels in a panel and I would like to know how to cut them apart and also how do I write on them? All of the quilts and lap robes I have made and I never put a label on any of them. I know - shame on me. Enjoy this site so much and appreciate all of the great info!

Re: Quilt Labels
With the labels on a panel - I would
1 - cut it apart - leaving a seam allowance around the edge
2 - take a piece of freezer paper and iron it to the wrong side of the label - the shiny part of the freezer paper to the wrong side of the fabric - it will stick and give you a stable surface to write on from the front of the label.
3 - use a Pigma Pen - it is permanent and has different size tips - I like the .05 size for signing or writing on blocks.
Put what you will on the label -then remove the freezer paper- then heat set the writing with an iron.
4 - Turn under the seam allowance and hand sew the label to the quilt -
Voila - you are done!
Good luck

Re: Quilt Labels
Thanks for the tip! I have to add a label to the quilt I just finished. This is a great idea. I was thinking of making the label a little fancier by free-styling my name and the date with my stipple foot. Of course, I'll experiment on a sample fabric first. I've gotten quite good at using this handy little tool. Plus, I LOVE my invisible ink marker. It's a great way to practice writing first.

auntjana,
Thanks for the info. I too have never labeled a quilt. One thing worries me - will the ink run when the quilt is washed? Should I test the label before attaching to the quilt?

Re: Quilt Labels
Oh thanks for this information. I am trying to label, but end up writing right on the quilt. Going to have to make me a binder with everyone's tip. Thanks again.
