Hand Quilting Thread
Is there any hard and fast rules about hand quilting thread - I can not find any quilting thread - specifically for hand quilting that is lime green. I am leaning toward using Gutermann thread that I can find in this color -
Question 1 - would you do this?
Question 2 - would you use one strand of thread or two?
Thanks for your help
Jana
Oh yes - it is for a baby quilt for my newest little grandson to be born in November - the top is a black background with cute dinosaurs in very bright primary colors and the back is lime green with dark green dots - sounds strange but it is really cute!

Re: Hand Quilting Thread
Your quilt sounds so cute. I handquilt using Gutermann thread but be sure and get the kind that says "Quilting" on the spool. It is for handquilting and is 100% cotton instead of the polyester Gutermann's for sewing or piecing. It is treated and is easier to use and doesn't tangle. It comes in a variety of colors. I have purchased it at quilt stores and at JoAnnes. Hope this helps.

Re: Hand Quilting Thread
Jana, I have used different threads for hand quilting, but try to use "quilting thread", like Susie said. 100% cotton. If the thread tangles, I use the beeswax and run the tread through it to coat it...or even soap..or a candle. The thread for "hand quilting" seems to be limited in colors.

Buy 100% cotton thread. Guttermann is a good thread to use for Hand Quilting. Read the label on it or ask a sales person for help selecting your thread. Silk thread is also nice for applique'/hand work.

If I can add to Jana, I would like to know when you but the cotton thread, there are a lot of different weights. What is a good size for hand quilting?
