Elves Hints for Secret Santa

First know that pre-loved/used items are great by me! books, patterns, notions, tools, etc. Why buy new if used will do!

FIRST NAME: Mary (Actually, it's Virginia, but shh . . . it's a secret)

FAVORITE COLORS: I'm a green/turquoise/blue kind of gal, but I also love purples, yellows, reds, and pastels.

COLORS I DON'T LIKE: none. I love them all!

FAVE FABRICS: batiks, 30's reproduction, Civil War, plaids, florals, brights, calicos, pine tree prints, Christmas, and novelty (cats, cartoons, travel)

FABRIC STYLES I DON'T LIKE: Not too crazy about 60's & 70's style 'mod' stuff or sports themes. (but even that has it's place!) Kids' prints, but only because I have no kids left to sew for. Everybody grew up!

QUILT PATTERN I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE: Braid

APPLIQUE? - Yes. And I use all methods.

HOW DO I QUILT? I am blessed to have a Nolting Fun Quilter w/ 11-ft frame. And a DH with a Q-bot to operate it!

CANDY: Oh, I really shouldn't! But since you asked - Snickers! Anything with chocolate, nuts, caramel. And black licorice.

PETS: What would life be without our fur-family?! Our Sheltie, Snickers, is my constant companion, and our two cats share ownership of us with Snick - Bunny, a grey tabby long hair, and Riley, a calico long hair. They are both quilters and show up in my photos from time to time.

HOBBIES: besides quilting - western dancing, camping, RV travel, scrapbooking, cross-stitching, genealogy, creative writing, wine-tasting, beading (jewelry), reading (murder mystery cozies, mostly), and one day I want to attempt watercolor painting. Just need a mini-me to get it all done!

I COLLECT: cats, of course. Also foxes (our RV is an Arctic Fox fifth-wheel), and shelties - statues, and stuffed, etc. I also like unusual S&P shakers. And I love Sylvester the Cat.

ALLERGIES: None

WISH LIST: Life is good. I can't think of anything right now that I need! But even though I've already done one queen quilt in hexies, I have to admit they are starting to draw me in again . . .

TIDBITS ABOUT ME: I'm 60 yrs old, farm-raised, live 2 miles from that old farm. I'm the 5th of 6 kids, (middle of the three girls). 12 yrs of Catholic school. Widowed twice and now married to Bill for 21 yrs; have 3 grown, married kids (Lara, Mike, & Autumn), and two nearly-grown grandsons (Drew & Alec).

I'm a retired RN - worked 20 years NICU. Before nursing school, I worked for Weyerhaeuser Co. I love all sorts of dancing and performed regionally with Chandra Belly Dance Troupe (10 yrs) and also Guns and Garters Western Dancers (10 yrs).

I hate all fish and love all pasta. Best desserts ever are sour cream lemon pie and white cake with choc. frosting. My favorite movie is Christmas Vacation with Chevy Chase. I like western music, audio books, and board/card/dice games

Christmas is my favorite holiday and I LOVE everything about it and the earlier it starts the better!!

Some tidbits of info about me (ex., profession, retired, my special likes, etc.: I'm 47 (my birthday is Dec. 8th) right now staying at home, I've been mostly a stay at home mom since I had kids, I've been married 27 years (April 13, 1985) ) I have 2 kids; a DD, 25 and she just got her teaching degree and is working on her Masters and a DS who is 23 he lives about 60 miles away and he started back to college this year. I also have a DGD (my DD's) she's 5 and is so funny and she keeps us jumping around here.
I've been quilting since Feb. 2010, so I'm still learning all sorts of neat stuff )
I love to shop at JoAnn's, Bernina and sometimes HobbyLobby, they are about 60 miles away but we go there at least once a month for other things so I get to go pretty often. I don't know if I have a favorite to shop at. Online I love QIAD and Connecting Threads and I have shopped at Hancocks online and was happy with what I bought )

My favorite holiday is Christmas and I have decorations all over for at least a month beforehand! I love to watch Christmas movies and sometimes have to have a fix in the summer LOL my favorite all time Christmas movie is Christmas Vacation with Chevy Chase and my son takes after me for sure when it comes to decorating and the fav movie LOL I always watch A Christmas Carol and Miracle on 34th Street....if I don't watch these 3 then it just doesn't feel like Christmas! I have at least a dozen Christmas movies and if it's a snowy cold or rainy day I love to pop popcorn and snuggle in a quilt and watch Christmas movies! Ahhhhhhhhhhh my kinda relaxing good times feeling );

10. My hobbies: I like redwork, stitchery / embroidery, and my newest thing is English paper piecing... I am using 2 1/2 inch charms and one inch paper hexagon pieces..one day I would like to use this method to make a double wedding ring quilt.

Niblet doesn't have a voice which is wierd...she meows, but you only hear the sound of the air vibrating over her "voice box"....DH found her abandoned outside of a bowling alley. She probably didn't weigh a pound and was only a few weeks old. Sweetest little thing ever!

15. Tidbits about me: I am 51 yrs old; however, I still think the date must be wrong somewhere...I can't possibly be this old! LOL I have been married 34 years to a wonderful man who retired as a Command Sergeant Major after 30 years in the Army. Unfortunately, we both still have to work! We have three grown sons—34 yrs, 28 yrs, and 26 yrs. One precious grandson, Joseph, who just turned 6. We are both from KY but now live in WA…first time either of us has been to this part of the Country. It’s beautiful here, but the sticker-shock is something we still haven’t adjusted to! I have been fortunate enough to visit several different countries due to my husband being in the Army. We lived a total of almost 12 years in Germany, this last time for 6 yrs. I absolutely loved it and would move back tomorrow if I could! Scotland is also one of my favorite places. I have only been quilting for less than five years—actually, I guess I should say “piecing” as “quilting” would lead one to believe that I actually finish anything! Technically, I have finished three, but I have lots of UFO’s! LOL I work at McChord AFB as a supply tech for the Aerial Port Squadron...formerly worked in Finance as an Accounting Technician; however, that title is misleading as I had nothing to do with budget, etc…I handled civilian pay, and worked in the Finance Office in the Disbursing area. Sadly, due to "civilian realignment" my position was abolished, which is why I now work in supply--and, yes, I AM thankful to still have a job! I have worked at Credit Unions, hospitals, and one medical practice, so I guess you could say I have almost always worked with money or sick people! Either way, folks get crabby about both! LOL I am so looking forward to a time when my DH and I can both really retire!!!
