Checkerboard and chickens pattern

Post by Chrissy1 »

While at my long arm quilter today, Lorean brought out the absolutely darling table topper. It had black and while checkerboard in the center which she said she did at nine patch probably. Squares were about 1 1/2 to 2 inch if I had to guess. Then a very tiny red framing border. Then a wide, about 4" anyway creamish fabric on which she did the cutest wonkie chickens/roosters all the way around it.. She said she ironed them on then satin stitched. Hand sewed their scrawny little legs. Then it has another border if strips of fabric, then bound. I am trying to find the name of the pattern or where I might buy it. I think it would be a great winter project for me to attempt. Lorean said she made it so long ago she can't even remember where the pattern came from. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's called 'Who's Minding the Coop?' by Dorothy Ashby and Heidi Peterson. Here is a link.

You're more than welcome. I knew it as soon as I read your description and went paging through my Keepsake Quilting catalogs. It was further back then I remembered (thought it was a more recent pattern) so just shows how time flies, or else I'm on quilting time!
