There is a pattern to make which will hold scissors, but I can't think of the name. Sorry! It is rectangle and when you fold it, will hold 3 pr. scissors.

Gifts for women I made and enjoyed, Quilt table runners, crazy patch in velvet/velveteen/flannel leftovers..Xmas tree ornaments out of foam balls and squares of fabric..Lottery tickets, gift cards..
Gifts for men:
The accountant bought gulf shirt, embroidery his company logo, along with a Xmas tie for his ego. Received lots of compliments on his looks he liked that..Coffee cards, will give him reason to get out in the world and meet people outside his accounting. Then, Globe/Mail home delivery..for 6mts. Now, he lives his apartment to share with another neighbor..
For myself if someone gives me a handmade purse I'd be so so happy..I have to boring brothers...

I think a nice lap quilt or throw would be a good gift for a man or woman.

I am making my sewing friends a pin cushion that looks sorta like an octopus out if 5 inch squares. really easy and inexpensive.good way to use up your scraps.
