3 3/4" squares

Post by Chrissy1 »

My sister dropped me off a bag and a small box from my other sister today. The bag is filled with fabric, mostly upholstrey I think, but the box, oh my gosh. It is filled with 3 3/4" squares. I think they were cut before the day of the rotary cutter. A lot of them are plain but many of them are colorful, and retro, but actually real retro. (does that make any sence) What should I do with them? I was thinking of just sewing the together in strips and then sewing the strips together. There are a few small pieces that I want to cut to add to the box such as this darling soft yellow with grey kittens on it. I think my sisters friend Shirely is still alive but am not positive on it. If she is I am going to make this for her, if she is already an angel I will make it for my sister or someone in Shirley's family.

Chrissy, I had a similar bunch of squares, too! My SIL sold a bunch of squares..some were blends, alot of older "retro" fabrics, some very thin fabric. So I did what you suggested! I layed them out so that I didn't have duplicates next to each other. Then just sewed them together into a patchwork quilt! I use it on a small table on our front porch as a tablecloth. You could use it anywhere, depending on how big it turned out to be..
What a great find!!

I am looking forward to it myself. I will keep you posted and by the time I have it done, our daughter should be able to teach me how to post photos. She has me set up, but that is it so far.

What a wonderful windfall! I bet contemplating what to make will be as much fun as making it! With those old fabrics, an old fashioned pattern would look terrific! Can't wait to see what you come up with, Chrissy!

I hate to suggest this quilt because it was my quilt from hell but you might enjoy it - you could use all those little squares in a Cathedral Windows quilt.
