Quilting for my Son
I am thinking about doing a memory quilt for my son. Have all of his pictures out and am planning on scanning them to use as the center square to the Ohio Star block. My problem is picking the colors to use, as he is color blind. Wondering if black and white are my only options. Would like some in put, I know this must have happened to some one else.

What colors can he see? My fil is color blind, but he sees many colors. I think red and green are ones he cannot see because he can't read digital clocks, or see when a stop light turns red or green.

I think most colors look like different shades of gray to him. When he was little I bought giranimals for him to wear. If you're not my age, they were clothes that had labels of animals in them. You would put clothes together by using the label. Such as a pair of Pants with a Alligator Label would match a shirt with an alligator label. When he got old enough to buy his own clothes, he would buy black or gray things. However, I read that reds, greens, and yellows are the ones most commonly unseen. If you ask him, he doesn't know because he was tested so long ago that he doesn't remember.

I know you would probably not use pink for him. But, back in the early 90's I sold a house that still had pink kitchen appliances, from the 50's....Yes, pink. A single guy bought the house and when the other Realtor ask if the pink appliances were Ok with him....he said he didn't care, he was color blind.
Maybe instead of black and white, use black and light gray or shades of gray.

If I remember my biology, red/green are the most common followed by blue/yellow. I wonder if he would see brown or orange or violets/purples or turquoise. My DH is red/green color blind. Show fabrics to your son and ask what he sees. Perhaps some patterned fabrics--tone on tone that would show texture would be appealing to him. What about some of the "neon" colors--lime green, fushia, orange?
If indeed all he sees are shades of gray, you could still make high contrast fabrics--audition them on a black and white copier to get your lights, mediums and darks. Make it in colors/fabrics that would appeal and still contrast/show up your patchwork in the "gray" tones he sees.
