They have templates for making the yo yo's at the Joann Fabric. I'm not real sure but I also think there are some on the Eleanr Burns site also. I think they would be in the notions section. These templates come in diffrent sizes and shapes. I have some and what you do it cut out a circle a little larger than the template and then the template is two parts. One part fits inside the other part and you place you circle in between the two parts and hand sew it by putting hte needle into the holes on the disk thing. There is a trick to that as you have to make sure the needle is in the right hole so you won't sew it to the fabric. There are intruction with the templates and isn't it funny that this thread came up when there is a segment on making yo yo's with these templates on tv right now!!!! Good luck in finding them. You can also cut a circle using a glass ot some thing round and then use a thread your needle doubling the thread and turn under about 1/4" and stitch all the way around and then gather the faric in the stitching and pull it tight and make a knot and voila a yo yo. Good luck Huggies, Fay

one of the things i learned from watching one of EL's shows is to take big running stiches. i don't know why but if you try little bitty stiches it is harder to get them to close up right. seems that a larger stich lets you pull the thread tighter and the center hole is prettier. i have tried the yo yo makers but they seem to make it harder for me. of course i don't have young eyes anymore. i just cut out the circle twice as big as the finished size. finger press 1/4 " or little less under and make a running stich around the circle. pull the string tight and there ya go. i do these while watchiing tv sometimes. i just keep a coffee can filled with precut circles.

I've made a lot of yo-yo's. I think I used a cereal bowl for my template - or possible a CD. I just cut circles from scraps and stitch in big stitches, turning the edges under 1/4 inch. Kind of like hemming. Pull up and knot. They are fun. I used them in various sizes to cover moth holes in a vest, added an ornamental button to the centers to give them a more 'floral' look. mary z

Well, when I got to JoAnn Fabrics they were out but I got a very good link by KARPET. That saved me a few $'s. It is so simple. Thank you Karpet. Got all the fabric for making 4 quilts for Kids for Christmas. 3 girls and 1 boy. I will post some pics when I am done.
