DWR - to fix or not

I've been working on my DWR this week. I just added the row on the right. It's laying nice and flat. It's the rows on the left I'm trying to decide about fixing or not.

I started this quilt nearly 19 years ago. Naturally my piecing skills have improved.

So I have to decide what if anything I need to fix. I'm leaning toward the 3rd ring from the left on the 2nd row -- there's simply too much fabric to 'quilt out'. Admittedly there are centers that look worse in the picture and probably need to be fixed as well. And that's my problem. I'm afraid if I start fixing things, I'll end up tearing the entire top apart to 'fix' it.

Any suggestions?

8/27 -- Thank you for all your compliments, comments and suggestions. I watched the video and it has possibilities. Between here, my blog and a couple of e-mail lists the vast majority said leave it alone. The rest said I had to make a decision I was going to be able to live with.

Since I wanted/was willing to see the progress I've made, but was torn by my perfectionist tendencies (I'm working to lose those or at least loosen them up) I still needed a solution I could live with.

I turned the quilt over and looked at the back. There were and still are several places where the seam is an 1/8" or less. That's going to rip out after washing and I sure don't want to have to repair the quilt if I can prevent it.

So, I'm going to repair those seams and if the quilt lays flatter that's a bonus. I've got an example of the seam allowance on my blog:

I'm looking forward to finishing this quilt.

This is one of a number of videos that show you how to fix common problems. I used these methods on my last quilt. No ripping out, just basting a different way.

It looks wonderful to me and it already has a history. When you look at it you can think back of what you were doing at the time you started it, the times you sat working on it and how far along your skills have come. I would leave it just the way it is and be very proud of what you accomplished way back when. (just my humble opinion)

knitnoid it is beautiful. I agree with Chrissy1, see if you can use the method that Kathy talked about. I would leave it.

As I have been reminded so very kindly by everyone here, who cares what the quilt police think! ;-)
Seriously, I know that's not what you meant. More of a personal choice, right? Well, me, I can't see a problem really and I think the video, from little I've watched it, will help you do the trick. I've tried to either repair or fix quilts and the job is daunting to say the least, especially with all of that ripping!
Let us know how it goes for you!

Your quilt is beautiful. It doesn't look all that bad to me. I think I'd try to quilt it out. By the time you quilt the whole thing and then wash it you won't be able to tell the difference between those and the normal puckering from washing.

Please don't be taking it apart. It'll be ok....you'll see. Love the colors you used.

Oh, this is beautiful and so much work! In the grand scheme of the entire quilt, it will never be noticed by anyone but you. I truly think it will quilt out. I bet you are the only one who will ever notice. And once it's quilted, even you probably won't. It's gorgeous. You've done a spectacular job! mary z
