Re: Invisible thread question...
In the past when I used this, I used regular thread in the bobbin that match the quilt backing.
Sulky is a very good invisible thread. My machine liked it a lot better than the other - can't remember the brand name, but it was nylon and sulky is, I believe, polyester.

I've used the nylon in the past and always had a time with it. Now I'm using Sulky and it's really nice....I believe Evie is right...it is polyester. I've always been told to use regular thread in the bobbin to match the backing. I was also told to loosen the top tension to 2 when using clear thread.

Re: Invisible thread question...
Be sure the thread is poly not nylon. Nylon invisible thread will stretch and cause all kinds of frustration. If it cost under $6 a spool it's probably nylon. I use it in the bobbin or top or both.

I use invisible thread on top, thread to blend with the backing in the bobbin, Guttermann's. I have the Sulky brand polyester thread and I love it, no problems using it after a few practice runs; you will probably need to change your tension settings to get the nicest results.
Have fun!!

Re: Invisible thread question...
Caroline, like CaroleJ I use the Sulky polyester invisible thread, I really like it. I have used it in the bobbin also but be sure not to wind the bobbin too tight. Sometimes I don't have the right color thread so I used the invisible in the bobbin. A lot of times you need to keep cleaning out the bobbin casing if you use it in the bobbin alot as little pieces get in there that you can't see.
Sulky has it in clear and smoke color.

The hardest part about the Sulky invisible thread is getting the blasted stuff though the needle!! Can't see it to save my life; my kids like to stand behind me and giggle while I fumble around...hoping to catch a nice juicy cuss word!

Re: Invisible thread question...
Carole, I haven't tried the invisible thread yet in my Babylock to see how the automatic threader is, but when I used it on my Viking, I used one of those cheap silver needle threaders to thread the needle. You know the kind, you get several in a package and they don't cost much.

Re: Invisible thread question...
I used the invisible thread on top with a thinner "bobbin thread"--I think it was the kind used for machine embroidery.
I used a magnifying glass to thread the needle but have heard of marking the end of it with a permanent marker so you can see it.

Re: Invisible thread question...
Does Guttermann (sp?) make a poly. invisinle thread? If so, have any of you had good luck with it? I want to try the invisible but finding Sulky here may be a problem. I know JoAnn's carries Guttermann brand. Thanks for any help.
